Uncharacteristically of him, today he wears a hoodie. The kind of casual attire any person would wear. Why? Has the imminent end of the world suddenly made Mars feel as if he should stop caring? No. Quite the opposite, actually.

The pokémon by his side is not one that is easily missed, and unlike Mars’ own attire, it’s bound to draw attention wherever it goes: a huge Electivire of orange fur. A pokémon that most people would never associate with him.

That’s the goal. To keep training the few pokémon he has assigned to be those to use when wanting his identity to remain unknown. His Rocket pokémon, if you will.

Kecleon. A pokémon that’s yet to be added to his own personal collection, yet one he’s somewhat familiar with. Greninja is one of his favourite species, after all, and Kecleon is the only other species of pokémon that can also develop the PROTEAN ability. Has this one done so?

Mars decides not to take the risk of confirming that just yet, and with a whistled note, he commands the Electivire. Close range. A FIGHTING TYPE attack should do the trick, right?

In this case, it’s a LOW KICK that tosses the Colour Swap Pokémon against one of the trees that stand nearby.

A Mankey jumps out of a tree, attempting to hit Tigris with its own LOW KICK. Is it mimicking the Electivire? Does it think its rendition of the attack is better? Both options seem likely, but whatever the case, it’s clear that it wishes to fight Tigris.

It gets its wish.

This time, since he’s being attacked, Tigris doesn’t wait for a command: a THUNDER PUNCH soundly meets the Mankey’s small fluffy body, making its fur rise with static.

It seems to want to run, but PARALYSIS stops it from doing as much.

A Safari Ball is thrown before the effect has a chance of fading.

For a few moments, they walk without any interruptions, allowing Mars to focus on sounds like the rustling of leaves with the wind and also that of the incredibly heavy steps of his Electivire. Were it an even slightly warmer day, it’d probably leave huge footprints behind.

Mars makes a mental note on that. He has always favoured stealth, and a pokémon like an Electivire is anything but.

The Klink that approaches them isn’t very stealthy either, given the loud sound of its gears.

Quick to react, he whistles once more, leaving his Electivire to KICK the steel type so it can be caught in a Safari Ball.

The empty Safari Ball is casually tossed up as he walks; he catches it with one hand and then repeats the motion, seeming much more preoccupied with their surroundings than with the fate of the sphere.

The Electivire simply walks by his side.

It’s soon that they encounter a small group of Cubchoo that are playing in a patch of snow they must have made for themselves with their FROST BREATH. Tigris pauses, seeming ready to attack, but Mars simple shakes his head and keeps walking.

A Jigglypuff waddles onto their path soon enough. It opens its mouth, and for a brief moment, Mars worries the worst may come to pass – that it may sing to them as the species is known to do. What actually happens isn’t much better.

A piercing shriek rings through the air; high pitched, loud, harsh, and devastating. Mars winces and Tigris roars in displeasure next to him.

”Get rid of it.”

No non verbal commands this time, yet the Electivire immediately responds.

His ears are still ringing, so he quickly throws the Safari Ball.
