Fate can seem so very fickle at times. When he sees her through the mist, Mars finds himself wondering if some mercurial deity is playing tricks on him like others have done before. Dialga has been banished from this world, so who’s in charge of destiny?

A calamity follows Katherine wherever she treads, sundering the mountain's summit each time she dares to call upon the deity whose fate was intertwined with her own.

Although brief, her encounter with Tempest Quinn and Cillian Quinn has left Mt.Pyre in an undesirable condition. Tombstones lie broken and shattered, akin to a red carpet made of rock fragments. She does not anticipate Martín del Mar' arrival, but Tuesday is immediately noticed when the first sound is produced.

After all, everyone knows that vigilantes are no more than the League’s way to sell children ideals of justice and lawfulness in a way that appeals to them. What good have vigilantes ever done? The Pokkenger didn’t even last as an Elite Four member.

A growl leaves the Zeraora when the strange ghost takes some of its energy, and with it, a DISCHARGE of electricity is released. Thankfully, there had been no need to call the Zeraora to battle until this moment – its health had been untouched.

The ghost doesn’t look like anything he’s ever seen before. Should he assume it’s one of Katherine Fairburne’s Shadow pokémon? The dark aura is familiar, but he can’t be too sure. It could be anything, really, so he remains cautious.

That caution lies behind a front of nonchalance:

”That being said, if you like my outfit, you should see some of the other guys. We’ve got some in full armour.”

He’d wink at her, smirking teasingly, but you know… for as helpful as they are, masks have certain disadvantages.

The DISCHARGE is just as swift as Katherine's command for a PHANTOM FORCE. Although the web of electricity catches the ghost, it soon fades into a portal to fulfil its owner's wishes.

It arrives from beneath the Zeraora's own shadow, striking with a fist made of a similar nature.

"Hrm, hrm. Armour, huh? Maybe you ought to get some for yourself."

Slowly, much as the fog has spread across Mt.Pyre's summit, so does Katherine's very own shadow. A chilling breeze billows past her as a projection of her realm comes to life, imprisoning all within. Even gravity itself grows distorted as she takes a step closer, furthering her influence in the area.

"Between us, what is even the point of this? Do you people have a deathwish? Do you want the meteor to kill everyone?"

It would be unwise to laugh. This is something he reminds himself of. Katherine Fairburne has never been someone who he had underestimated, and he knows well that more than one of her favourite weapons of choice, the insults are a distraction.

She will try to kill him if he gives her the chance.

He will try to kill her because they stand at opposing sides.

The disembodied ghost disappears into what Mars easily recognizes as a PHANTOM FORCE, and at that moment, a single whistled note tells the Zeraora what to do: attack the Elite Four. He chargers towards her, fasts as lighting while PLASMA sparks up at its paws.

”Oh, I’d be fine with the meteor killing some people.” They’d be better off without more than a few of them, in Mars’ own opinion. Plus, it’s not like he’ll go and share his actual thoughts on this whole plan with the League. That would be stupid.

Once the phantom returns to strike the Thunderclap Pokémon, its timing might be favourable, but for now, the intent is obvious.

The masked man who goes by Tuesday is calm through it all.

”I’d say it’s more about seizing opportunities, no? Mount Pyre being attacked won’t stop you all from saving the day and being the heroes of the world… Or is it that you don’t trust in the League’s plan, Miss Fairburne?”

As he speaks, he disappears, hidden in the fog. He knows well to stay out of The Malevolent's gravitational influence.

Gravity does indeed, as expected, worsen at the sight of PLASMA coating the legendary's fists. Alone, it's not enough to halt the electric type's approach, but it slows it down just enough for Osiris to arrive. It materializes from a shadow like a PHANTOM, withstanding the attack and allowing Zeraora to phase through it entirely. When it reaches Katherine, it finds the same result: the cat-like pokemon phases through The Malevolent as well.

But Mars' Pokemon isn't given a moment to bask in its confusion. Instead, Cofagrigus capitalizes on this and strikes, delivering a punch to the Zeraora that solely intends to replace its abilities with its own, MUMMY.

In this process, it even grants the Legendary the ghost typing, harnessing its SHADOW ability.
[break][break]
"I trust it; I just wanted to know if there's some ulterior motive here. It's good to hear that Rocket still aims so low after all this time."
[break][break]
A whistle instructs the Shadow Pokemon to return once its ability has been activated, and it's recalled into a Pokeball before Katherine's Pheromosa appears on the field.

He watches the situation carefully, assessing damage. Under normal battle circumstances, it would be easy for someone like Mars to determine such things – having spent way too long learning about pokémon moves, abilities, and their effects. They’re weapons, after all; it’s important to know how to use them. The problem is that Katherine Fairburne has far too many pokémon that are far from normal or common, and this is one of them.

He can only speculate and reach conclusions based on what he witnesses. Needless to say, what he witnesses isn’t great.

With his Zeraora incapable of using most of its attacks, weakened, hurt, and changed, Mars makes the choice to call it back. He has no interest in losing any more pokémon today.

It happens just as Katherine releases her own Pheromosa. Shame, it could have been a decent battle of speed.

The pokémon he releases in the Zeraora’s place is the opposite: a Hatterene that smirks beneath her hat’s wide brim.

”Dunno. All I know is they sent us here.” He shrugs nonchalantly. She doesn’t know his rank, and while he trusts her to make an educated guess, it’s easier to pretend to just be some grunt.

With a clicked command, MAGIC POWDER is released onto the Pheromosa, carried by the gelid breeze of Mount Pyre.

There's a fleeting moment of hesitation, but a wave of absolute, stubborn confidence washes the foreign feeling out of Katherine's system. Today, when the world's ending, there's little room and even less time for the malevolent to experiment with feelings she's not all too familiar with.

Scarlet eyes narrow at the sight of the retreating Zeraora and the Hatterene that replaces it, but not a second more is spared for thinking or wasted on contemplating.

As the MAGIC POWDER spreads, Pheromosa sprints into action and closes the distance between herself and the other psychic type, "Stay on her!"

A FOUL PLAY comes to fruition when the Ultra Beast attempts to deliver a vicious kick to the witch.

Thoughts of the primal point linger in the back of his mind as the fight progresses.

This is not where he’s supposed to be. This is not what he’s supposed to be doing. Undeniably, someone should distract the strongest defenders of their objective, and Mars doubts any League supporter currently at Mount Pyre is stronger than Katherine Fairburne, but that he is the one facing her defies the purpose of his mission.

He knows he’s one of the people best equipped to move to the primal point unnoticed. It’s why he had done so before. It’s why he needs to go back and finish what he had started after leaving Gunner Graves bleeding.

Mars deeply dislikes leaving fights unfinished, but years of conditioning have taught him nothing is more important than his mission. What Team Rocket wants of him must come first, always.

This is why Tuesday speaks up just as his Hatterene is painfully pushed back by the Pheromosa’s FOUL PLAY.

”Believe what you want, but for now, we’re out of time.” He shrugs dramatically, tilting his head. Through the mask, he stares at her. ”I’d say ’See you later’, but I’d really rather not. Have fun out there, hm?”

A clicked command causes a TRICK ROOM to rise, a trap meant to use the Pheromosa’s speed against her in case she were to attempt pursuit – he won't teleport too far, after all, that'd be too exhausting at this point. The Hatterene is returned to a darkened pokéball’s confines, and then, with a slight and nonchalant wave, the masked man disappears.
