Two draws. That was the result of his gym battles so far. Even if the first one was very unintentional. But he was hungry for a victory now. Well, more hungry for one than before. He was tired of a draw...a loss, while disappointing, would at least give him something to work towards. Or show how much more work he needed to do. A draw was just a so close but yet so far. And close only counted in horseshoes and hand grenades. Aaron had worked his Gengar, Palosand, and Steelix hard these last few weeks. Steelix was a good help with Rocket in Littleroot during the big battle, even if he wasn't used that much. Still, after some hard training, and a day of pampering his three Pokemon just yesterday, Aaron had reminded them of what was expected. And all three met his fist for giving it their all.

Walking into the gym, he was directed to the battlefield. The five foot four blonde had a plan of action, but Callan was also a gym leader, and an experienced one at that. Not that he expected it to ever be easy, but this one just may be his toughest challenge yet. When the leader came out, Aaron bowed politely. "Thank you for the battle. Ready?" The kid waited to see what Pokemon Callan will bring out first. Of course, Aaron didn't know what to expect, but the man knew what the kid was bringing to the table.

"Welcome, Aaron." Cam Callan's call as the trainer stepped into the warehouse. "I'm sorry the match had to take so long to set up, unfortunately the meteor had everyone significantly pressed for time." Callan smiled. "These will be the two Pokemon that I will use in our singles match today." He pointed up towards a large screen behind his back, indicating a Stantler and a Snorlax. Before unclipping his Pokeball and sending out his first pokemon.

"When you're ready Aaron, you may send out your first Pokemon and make the first move."

"And I'm sure Rocket's interference didn't help matters either. I'm still fuming over what they did to my town. Twice. I completely understand." Aaron growled out the organization's name. To say that he had tremendous fury at the orgnanization for likely burning down Littleroot once, though he had no proof of that, and then destroying the town during their attack on the League would be an understatement. Setting that feeling off to the side, he paid attention to the gym leader. A glint in his amber eyes showed fury at first, but as soon as it was there, it was gone again. He didn't think a gym leader would underestimate their opponent based on the number of badges they had. But then again...the thought occured to him that Callan chose to use only two Pokemon to give Aaron a chance to win.

But time will tell, and it was time to battle. Stantler and Snorlax...well, this should be interesting at least. Taking a pokeball off his belt, he threw his first round swinger. A Gengar emerged from the ball with a red umbrella. The ghost tossed the umbrella back at his trainer, who caught it. And the fight was on. "Start us off with Sludge Bomb. Then Confuse Ray when the opportunity arises." With a single nod, the speedy ghost darted to the right, then far to the left, firing a ball of purple sludge at the deer Pokemon. The move also had a chance of poisoning, so there was that. Even while the bomb was on it's way, a ring of yellow lights swirled around the Gengar, ready to fire at the Stantler in a follow-up. Aaron didn't want to use his ace in the hole with Gengar just yet...

"PSYSHIELD BASH." Came Callan's reply. A wall of pyshic energy emanated from the horns of the reindeer Pokemon, as it charged into the sludge bomb and would strike if the Gengar managed to get off its Confuse Ray.

The psychic wall smashes into the sludge bomb, spattering acid across the Stantler's body, damaging it but increasing it defenses. The confuse Ray would also connect against the Stantler, but the consumption of the Lum Berry cured it of its confusion.

Aaron thought he had pretty good knowledge of Pokemon moves, abilities, and types. But even he didn't really expect a Psychic-type attack that he did not recognize at all. Maybe he should talk to his mom about transfering him to a dedicated Pokemon academy or something to fill in those gaps in knowledge. Still, Gengar reacted well. Even though the Sludge Bomb hit, the Stantler just charged right through it, and clipped Gengar even while his Confuse Ray hit. Though the normal-type didn't stay confused for long it seemed. It was eating a berry of some kind. Despite it being a graze, Gengar's defenses weren't good, even if it's special attack was top tier, and as was its speed.

He did notice the deer Pokemon munching on something...a berry? Well, whatever the case, Gengar was hurt now, limping a little from the graze. But otherwise still in fighting condition. Maybe he could heal up? "Hypnosis and then Dream Eater." The purple ghost started to wave his hands around, sending hypnotic waves at the Stantler, hoping to put it to sleep, and drain it's strength with a follow-up attack of Dream Eater. He hoped to keep round one fast and easy, and that sleep would do some good if it succeeded. But Doug also did warn him that Callan was craftier than you would think...

It seemed Callan had underestimated the young trainer, simply because of his age and the number of badges that he possessed. Had he been given a chance, he would have picked a team that would have respected the abilities being given to the trainer that he was facing at the moment.

Hypnosis lands, only to be swifting ripped away from its slumber within the same move. Dream Eater consumes the psyche of Stantler as his life force is parted into the Gengar's body, putting it in critical health while restoring a significant chunk from Gengar's. So far, Callan had been using a single move to handle the trainer's Pokemon, at this point however, he felt that he had learned enough of Aaron to understand he could handle more.

"Confuse Ray." Callan retorted, though his Stantler was still weak. The bell lights on the Stantler's horns emanated a flickering light towards the Gengar, whom upon visually observing it, would be put into a stupor rendering the Gengar prone to potential self-damage. "Psyshield Bash." The Stantler bulleted forward, its prongs once again aiming for the Gengar for a second super-effective move.

It didn't stay down for long. The Dream Eater did do its job, recovering Gengar's vitality and healing him. But the Stantler was charging again, the "eyes" on its antlers glowing red and flickering to send confusing waves on his ghost. Clenching his teeth, the amber eyed teen hoped Gengar could dodge. To his credit, Gengar did try. But still got mesmorized by the flickering and was wobbling due to its confusion. He needed to end this now, and hoped that his ghost could pull it off. "Focus Blast. Finish this." His voice was loud and clear, if still stoic. Gengar tried to stabilize itself, an orangy bulb forming at one of his hands. The ground underneath cracked and shook, and waited until point blank range. Then did Gengar fired it, hopefully connecting and causing a massive explosion.

When the dust settled, there Gengar was, on his back, fainted. But hopefully so was Stantler. Unfortunately, that side of the dust was still settling. So the ref went ahead and called Gengar unable to battle. Returning his ghost, Aaron muttered a few encouraging words at his fainted ghost. "You did well. Take pride in your hard work." Putting it away, he took out his second pokeball, releasing part one of his second plan. Even if Stantler managed to not faint, it was surely almost done. But the next obstacle was going to be tougher yet. Snorlax were not easy Pokemon to take down. Hopefully Palosand would win in a battle of attrition though. The sand castle awaited his orders once Stantler's fate was revealed...

Focus Blast hits well and hits hard. Gengar works through its confusion, directing a heavy laden wave of energy pulsing towards the Stantler, it lands square center into its PSYSHIELD BASH, causing an explosion that blasts both Pokemon backwards, and knocking them both out in the process.

"Return Regis, well done." Callan spoke, returning his Stantler to his Pokeball. "One more to go Aaron." Callan smiled, as he extended his Pokeball and tossed out his Snorlax.

Gump Junior was about one of the largest Snorlax ever seen, taking up a quarter of the battle stadium as it bounced out of its Pokeball. "It nibbles, delicately, on what seems to be an apple in its hand as it waves pleasantly towards Aaron and his Palossand. "Gastro Acid!" Callan ordered, and upon doing so, Gump hurled what seemed to be purple, viscous gunk from its mouth, aiming directly towards the Palossand.

No shit, he can count. Aaron wasn't four. The blonde just gave the guy a blank, deadpan look as he let out perhaps the largest Snorlax he had ever freakin seen. To say it was intimidating would be an understatment. The first move was made, and he had to react fast or part of his plan was going to go up in smoke. "Earth Power, stop it from getting you." A brown aura surrounded the pile of sand as the earth shook and spewed out between the Pokemon, stopping the stomach acids from getting to it. Even the splatters didn't get close to Palosand due to her thoroughness in her defense. Let the chipping game begin. "Sandstorm." With an eerie howl with jiggles, a dark and bellowing sandstorm started at Palosand that just increased in size to cover the battlefield, making it difficult to see, and damaging any Pokemon that wasn't a steel, ground, or rock type. Plus, it also activated Palosand's Sand Veil ability, making her harder to hit.

And that was part of why he was so worried at first. Of course, the next attack wasn't garunteed to miss nor did it mean that Palosand would have time to react to it the same way she just did. Part two of his overall strategy just started, how effective it will be remained to be seen.

Sand Veil triggers as Aaron's Palossand uses Earth Power to create a wall of earth to protect itself from the Gastro Acid before the Sandstorm activates. "Hm." Callan comments as the sand gathers and his gym floor is wrecked.

Regardless, the defense activates. Palossand was an excellent user of Sandstorm, but Aaron had a number advantage on his side of the field. Were he the opposing trainer, he would have capitalized on the large target and garnered some damage for a guaranteed kill for the third Pokemon. But regardless, he would see how this goes.

Sandstorm activates:
All Pokemon not Rock, Ground or Steel will take 1/16th of a damage.

Sand Veil activates:
Attacks have a 20% chance to miss Palossand. Opponent rolls for evasion checks.

"Curse, and follow through with Darkest Lariat." Gump jumped into action, quite literally, channeling dark type energy into its body, which shrouded it with cursed power, as it charged towards the Palossand. Gump would break through the disrupted ground in a charge forwards like a weighted bullet, it razes the ground and it bullets forward towards the trajectory of the Palossand to land a shockwave at the Palossand's location.

hb5KYmt_

(20 or below and the attack automatically misses due to Sand Veil.)

SANDSTORM: 4 Turns Remaining.

+ Snorlax takes 1/16th of health chip damage from Sandstorm.
+ Snorlax uses Curse, reducing Speed by 1 and increase Attack and Defense by 1.
+ Snorlax uses Darkest Lariat on Palossand.

Palosand wasn't a powerhouse, even she wouldn't be able to use a single move or two so Steelix could sweep after she was done. Her strength was more attrition and support. Then wittle away. The Snorlax was so large, that he heard his sandcastle yelp in pain when it got hit. But it still seemed like she was still in it, if barely. That Curse was going to be a problem, but he had no way of disabling it. So he just had to deal with it, and just wear it down little by little. "Shore Up, then follow through with Giga Drain." Hopefully he could do more soon, putting it to sleep for some free hits would be quite nice, but he would have to see how the giant would react.

Numbers were great and all, but you can't always win with them. He'd take advantage of it if he had to, but he would play the long game now, as per his strategy beforehand.

The Palossand's Giga Drain and Shore Up prove effective in recovering it's health all the way back up to full. The sandstorm continues to chip at Snorlax's health, mitigated by the use of its leftover's. Snorlax munches on sandy apple, swallowing both the sand and the fruit as it regenerates its physical flesh from this simple act alone. It's previous use of Darkest Lariat had injured the Palossand, but not enough that it would be able to quickly kill, and yet, the Palossand was unable to do any serious damage to the Snorlax due to it's impressive special defense.

To this end, Callan considered his options. If he pressed the attack now, the likely chance of Aaron fainting from a Double Darkest Lariat was high. On the other hand, if he were to hold off for another round or two, then he could easily take advantage of the situation with an attempt at improving Snorlax's chances of dealing a single massive blow at the cost of increased chip damage.

Callan raised an arm forwards, outstretched. "Gump, use Curse. Supercharge your body." The Snorlax roared as it lifted dropped onto all fours. An aura of darkness enveloped its form. Gump groaned as the aura burst into black flames around it, as it doubles up, using Curse twice in a row to increase its parameters drastically while forsaking its ability to attack this turn. Its eyelids began to droop from the stress of the Curse.

SANDSTORM: 3 TURNS REMAINING
+ Gump takes chip damage from Sandstorm and heals for the same amount.
+ Gump takes damage from Giga Drain
+ Gump uses CURSE x2! (+3 Attack, +3 Defense, -3 Speed)

Aaron had started to think about what item Callan may have on Snorlax. Most common was Leftovers, since it was known to be tough as nails. The sandstorm would help cancel that out. But what concerned him was Curse. He had to stall it somehow. And do as much damage as possible. "Use Hypnosis." The sand castle sent out psychic waves to attempt to lull the beast to sleep. Sure, it may still recover health from its possible Leftovers, but at least it wouldn't be able to use any attacks or continue to set up. At this point, while it would be slower than Steelix, it may be able to hit harder, even with Steelix's Head Smash and Double-Edge attacks. He may have to do a hail mary Giga Impact right away.

But he had to do more damage. And Earth Power was Palosand's strongest move at the moment, with STAB and her respectable special attack...though it may still not do much with Snorlax's bulk, unless he got lucky with it lowering the monster's special defense. "Earth Power." With a loud moan, the earth rumbled and lashed out at the hulk of a Pokemon.

Fortune was on Aaron's side. As Gump falls asleep from the Hypnosis, the EARTH POWER strikes true. Jagged Earthen Rocks carrying Ground Energy dig into Gump's body, sinking its special defense as it snores away.

It was unfortunate that Callan could not see the duel between Gump and Aaron's Steelix, but perhaps that was for the best. He did not wish to fail an otherwise well performed battle. Snorlax remained asleep for the turn, unable to move. Callan awaited Aaron's Coup de Grace.

The earth shuddered as the beast fell asleep. This allowed the first one to hit. "Earth Power again. Keep using it until the Sandstorm subsides." Palosand would use it two more times, and he must have gotten lucky with it lowering special defense. Since that was all it took as the sandstorm subsided and revealed a knocked out Snorlax. It shocked him to an extent...Aaron had somewhat expected the fight to go on to force him to use his third Pokemon. But it just proved that he was now able to handle a gym leader. Even as the ref called the match ended and called for Aaron's victory, the blonde was speechless. Did...he really just win with an even number of Pokemon?

The sand castle slid over to him and looked up with wide eyes. Aaron was finally out of his stupor, and kneeled down, patting the Palosand on the head. "Nice work. You did very well." With a soft look, the Pokemon did her best to hug the boy's leg, even as he halfways hugged her back. Ghosts man...they were sometimes weird to hug back and stuff. Hopefully it was a good enough battle that Callan would decide to award him a badge. Granted, it was rare to not be awarded one on a victory. Only time he heard of that was if someone was especially cruel to not only the gym leader's Pokemon, but to their own as well.
