Ashley doesn't believe that for a second in that time, but he is glad he brought Maple more and more now. That refreshing second wind is given back to the young Pokemon Rider. Once she's ready to go again, he nods. Might as well. If he doesn't go, she'll just get into trouble. Again.

So they're off, and while holding Maple like a dog, he hops onto Sandy, a smile as he gave the lovely beast a nice personal AC right above. Maple was unamused, but with a mew as they began flying towards the bubbling lava lake, he was glad even MORE that Maple was here. Shit was hot, yo. But being the hero that she was, Shalin went to go help the Ponyta. Not that Ashley could complain. He already had a few Fire Types, and while it may have been nice to ride the pony itself, riding Pokemon are Shalin's specialty.

He preferred walking, but he still recalls the beach with her Yanmega. Better times. No, that wasn't true. He was happier than he had been, despite PAAA after all.

Though there does seem to be a Claydol they fly over, it seems fine, so Ashley merely waits, helping the Flygon cool off with the help of Maple. All they needed was to find whatever Shalin was looking for! He was sure it would be around here, somewhere.

"What exactly are we looking for?" He calls out from the distance.

Times had indeed changed since PAAA. Shalin's eyes had been opened to the true dangers of the region, and just how much of a threat Team Rocket was. Her battle in Littleroot, where she and her Pokémon nearly perished at Elisabeth Fiorelli 's hands, was living proof that she needed to find this last Medallion of Eight and see to the bottom of this. It was Halls of Origin or bust.

"I want to see if there's an entrance tunnel to this dome," Shalin clarified, the flying-types having reached the hemispherical rock formation surrounded by bubbling lava on all sides. "There's got to be a large hole in it somewhere; the pressure inside would have been too great for it to remain totally closed like this. Come on, Corona, let's take a closer look."

With that, Shalin and her Charizard descended closer to the crater's bubbling surface. While Corona's heat shield deflected much of the dangerous heat away from her, enough of it seeped through that she could feel uncomfortable heat rising from her feet up her legs. "We're not gonna be able to circle this all at once. Let's fly up to the top of the dome and take a look there."

While the only clue they would find was that the dome was indeed hollow, there was also a Pyroar relaxing at the top of the spheroid rock formation, basking in the heat. Getting a silly idea in her head, Shalin sent out Kiara after she had Corona land nearby, at a spot flat enough that they wouldn't slip. After all, a fall there could be fatal!

The two Pyroar had a brief scuffle, trying to flip each other onto their backs, before the wild backed away. He found Kiara quite attractive, the two purring back and forth at one another before resuming their now-playful wrestling match. "Aww, that's cute," Shalin cooed toward no one in particular. "You find a mate, Kiara?" With a smile, she walked toward the duo, a Poké Ball with its catch and release button facing the wild. "Hey, big guy!" she stretched her hand toward the fire-type. "She lives with me and has been looking! Wanna come with us?"

Made sense. Shalin wanted to look for the entrance to the dome. With some science to boot, it did have Ashley nodding along like he understood. Book smarts wasn't his thing, but that's partially due to the fact that an orphanage was not exactly the most prestigious place of learning.

When Shalin noted to fly up, Ashley was following soon after, on the back of Sandy. Though a little funky holding on, he does continue onwards with Maple still acting as their portable, albeit grumpy air conditioner. The lava plumes all around really would have cooked Ashley alive. Hell, his arm was already sweating; the broken one in the sling, that is. But nothing can prepare Ashley for what he sees.

A male Pyroar! And Shalin had a female, look at that! Ashley was grinning ear to ear. Now that was some kitty love... all while he had his own issues to deal with.

Ever see a Charmander who is sitting by lava, and just existing? Lava kills people, typically, and Pokemon alike. So when Ashley saw her there, the immediate impulse from Ashley is a sigh. He really didn't want to use a Pokeball right now, but... with a throw of one of his Premier Balls, he lugs it at the Charmander.

Well. He always did like raising them to be big. That growth is what made Ashley's strongest.

Still, leaning out towards Shalin after retrieval, he makes a note. "See anywhere? I had to save a Charmander who... probably shouldn't have been near some lava." He's looking through that lava flow. Sheesh. This place would make a great sweat lodge, if it didnt burn it down first.

"I trust you, Shalin. Wherever it is, you'll find it. Almost assuredly." That trust, however, should not be twofold.

"Not yet, but I'm gonna make another pass now," Shalin answered after recalling both of her Pyroar. She mounted Corona more more, the Charizard sending hot air flying outward in his takeoff. Her first pass around the dome was not fruitful, but her second was! She found a large, semicircular opening in the dome's north side, more than large enough for most flying Pokémon to fit through. There was just one issue with it: it was dangerously close to the crater's magma pool.

Shalin guided Corona back to the top of the basalt dome to report her findings. "From what I could see of it, it's fairly wide, and it turns upward. I don't think Corona's agile enough to fly up it. Sandy's the only Pokémon I've got that can handle it, and Rielle's not exactly in great shape right now. We might have to fly on Sandy together." It wasn't a great prospect, because one mistake could lead to all three of them turning into ash and molten bones. "Unless you have another Pokémon that can hover... she's probably our best bet."

Ashley shakes his head. "Only brought Maple. But let's ride." Ashley admits, knowing that mistake wouldn't haunt him, just mildly inconvenience both. But, grabbing Maple from below, and hoisting him towards his chest, he gestures. "Got Maple here as a chill pad, so just be careful."

He trusted Shalin.

Now, unfortunately, or fortunately, depending on who it counted for, Ashley finds a Ninetales nearby. His silver eyes land on her, hissing towards the lava. Another stranded soul. But instead of thinking about keeping her, there was another idea that breaches the corners of his mind. With a grin, he throws another Pokeball to the Ninetales.

"Yup. That one is probably an easy sell." Best with Josh, than himself. Who knows, maybe Josh had something of major note to give in return? Not that Ash was that needing of anything.

Maple sandwiched between the duo felt great. "Thanks. We'll need it," she replied before focusing on the turn needed to enter the basalt dome. As close to the magma as the riders' legs hung, it may have felt like their feet were cooking as they flew through the semicircular opening. The lighting within was all shades of red, orange, and yellow, reflecting from the glowing goop underneath them. A persistent rumbling noise wormed its way into the riders' ears over the hum of their mount's vibrating wings. As its source, a magmafall, came into view, Shalin pulled the Flygon up, weaving her around some sharp rock formations dotting the vertical tunnel.

Once they had reached the inside of the basalt dome, Shalin couldn't believe her eyes.

This was Death Crater, and it was huge.

Many rare and powerful fire Pokémon, such as Turtonator and Magmortar, were common inside the dome lit only by magma's light, the sky nothing but brown and black rock. It was the most surreal landscape that Shalin had ever seen. And it was harsh. She would need to do a lot of preparation to come here, as Rielle's Hydration on its own wouldn't keep her cool enough to last in such an oppressive, inhospitable environment.

"This is it. The last Medallion's gotta be in there. But this is way too much for Rielle to handle on her own. I'm gonna have to bring an entire team specialized to explore this place."

The biggest whistle imaginable comes from Ashley, thankfully air conditioned by the ever-tiring Glaceon, the little cyan blue mammal getting sleepy as he help to cool off Shalin's back, and Ashley's front. But as soon as they got further in, Maple tries to cool them off more, as they look over the massive crater. The various powerful fire types littering the area.

"Sweet Arceus, dude..." He finds himself leaning over and nods. Yeah, this would require some hefty amounts of specialized team members. And Maple was already getting sleepy. "Ya' might need a couple ice types. Maple isn't used to this level of strain, little guy is tuckered out."

Ruffling the Glaceon's ears, they share a moment, as he turns his head up to Shalin.

"You gonna be okay going through this?"

Ashley's whistle was an appropriate action, and he was absolutely right. Shalin would need to bring a very specialized team of Pokémon to the brutally hot location, including more than one Pokémon that could keep her cool. As hot as it was in the mountain's exterior, it was worse inside the basalt dome that would likely never see a single ray of sunlight for the remainder of time. "Yep, Rielle alone isn't gonna cut it. She'll overheat long before we find the medallion. Normally Pokémon medicine fixes that problem, but in a place this hot, the vials would explode in your hand the moment you tried to discharge them."

Shalin and Sandy turned around, their eyes on the roaring, magmafall-guarded tunnel the two explorers entered the surreal locale from. "I'm gonna need a lot of time to think about what Pokémon to bring here. I might even need to go back to Shoal Cave in search of more water and ice Pokémon. I can't go out here by myself. The question, of course, is who's crazy enough to come out here with me." With that, she led Ashley back the way they came and to a cable car that felt like a refrigerator by comparison.
