though he was not personally involved in Rowan Wrynn's OPERATION OCEAN project, it didn't stop him from wanting to oversee it's development. so jayden traveled to SEA MAUVILLE to look into it.

[break][break] the last person he expected to see there was one Melody Miro.

[break][break] she looked much different outside of her rocket cell.

[break][break] "Melody Miro?" he asks, approaching her with a polite smile. "fancy seeing you here."

[break][break] though the elite four member likely wouldn't recognize him from that time in her life, perhaps she would recognize him as a former challenger at her gym. though, that too had been a lifetime ago.

he nods at her, mouth twisted into a wry smile. "i should have known then that you would have become elite four. after all, you bested me in battle."

[break][break] the jayden at that time had been different, twisted with memories of Chu-e Choi and the heartbreak that had followed. not that he was sure that he could've even bested the pink-haired idol then; there were many ways in which rocket succeeded the league, but there were still strong trainers in both factions.

[break][break] much like snowboarders reached their ascent, melody had too. still, being a part of the league meant that there would only be moments before her demise. littleroot, if anything, had proven that to him.

[break][break] "regardless, i was surprised to hear of your appointment. congratulations." it's a congratulations perhaps a lot too late, considering how much time had already passed since she'd risen to her seat, but jayden figured out it was better to have it sooner than later.

[break][break] his curiosity is peaked as a duskull wanders past, and his umbreon at his side leaps towards it to attack it. a DARK PULSE peals out of hesus' mouth, and it's only second laters that the pokemon is felled, captured in a pokeball.

[break][break] as he picks it up, he turns to her.

a honedge sails through the sky and his dragapult follows, first slapping it down with SUCKER PUNCH. then just when the pokemon is about to get up for a retaliation attack, small little dreepy fly out from behind the dual-type to clamber him in an INFESTATION.

[break][break] catching him is mere child's play.

[break][break] his brow arches.

[break][break] "stressed?" he says, with a slight frown. "that can't be good. is it the burden of the position? are there many trainers to challenge?" it didn't seem likely, considering how he assumed many people would be still recovering from the effects of the meteor or chasing some far-fetched dream in the open rifts.

as the wimipod runs into the elite four's arms, a WILD CROCANAW comes chasing after it, fangs snapping through the air. jayden whistles sharp, and his dragapult drops down with SUCKER PUNCH. the attack sails through the water-type as it's thrown backward and a pokeball is tossed in the interim.

[break][break] the admin's head tilts towards melody as she speaks.

[break][break] "ah."

[break][break] now that she's explained it, it makes sense.

[break][break] "the hst was the first time i participated in a tournament," he remarks. "i will admit - i've not thought that much about the gym circuit, so i didn't realize the responsibilities such a title would entail." not entirely the truth, but not a lie either. he remembers what noah faber had said to him that summer, that he ought to pursue the gym circuit.

[break][break] perhaps in a time, in another life, he could've related to Melody Miro more.

[break][break] "you must feel burdened by it," he observes.

Melody Miro and her intelon, jayden watches on with a bit of a bemused expression.

[break][break] power lights flicker in the abandoned room of the facility, and his eyes flicker upwards, before the sight of a wandering misdreavus creeps into the space. the pokemon cackles with delight, just as jayden's dragapult LOCKS ON before throwing a SUCKER PUNCH to knock it out of the air.

[break][break] when the misdreavus is contained in the pokeball, jayden goes over to pick it up.

[break][break] her words pitch him with curiosity, however, as he turns around.

[break][break] "what makes you say that?" he asks curiously.
