ever since the darkest day, jayden had taken to exploring the outskirts of sootopolis whenever he was able to, just to make note of any changes that were in the area. no one was still sure what had allowed so many league members to come into sootopolis undetected, though the majority sentiment had to do with a weakness in the defense and the ability of rat-scum to take advantage of the resulting chaos.

[break][break] while other members of rocket were taking more serious members to ensure their defenses — such as Felix Gallagher — jayden's occasional walks around the territory had minimal effect. still, it made him feel better.

[break][break] he spots an unfamiliar face atop the cliffside, and his head tilts as he approaches her.

[break][break] "hello," he says. his umbreon at his heel peers up curiously at the red-headed woman. "are you looking at sootopolis?"

[break][break] an obvious fact. what was not so obvious was why.

his brow arches.

[break][break] "what were you expecting?"

[break][break] she didn't look like any rocket that he knew of, but then again, there was little stopping the civilian operations within sootopolis. though, there were still several he didn't necessarily want to enter the facilities and subject themselves to rocket rule.

[break][break] foolish people, jayden thought.

[break][break] the rocket admin thought to say more, however there is a sudden bark. at first, he thinks it's a litwick — only to find out that it is a dog? the canine barks happily, though it's barks are deep and guttural and nearly hollow in it's approach as it lopes up to jayden. he reaches down to the pokemon waving it's stubby tail, nosing around in his pockets for a treat in the same way that fern delaney's typhlosion had done not so long ago, and jayden provides a small treat for the unusual pokemon as he captures it with a pokeball once it's sufficiently distracted.

jayden considers it.

[break][break] then again, it wasn't like a giant glowing R would be exactly the easiest thing to hide.

[break][break] his gaze drifts towards a sealeo that swims deeper in the shore, swiping past a fish before diving back into the depths of the water.

[break][break] "you know of them?" surprise dots his expression as he looks back at the redhead. there was still much he didn't know about paldea, and he thinks about his last conversation with Melody Miro.

[break][break] he considers her words for a moment.

[break][break] "i'm not sure if anyone really knows," he says. "maybe the meteor did more damage on our universe than we thought."

he watches as she secures the capture of a clauncher.

[break][break] while he had been to many regions, thanks to both his father's work and their mutual work within rocket, paldea was one region that still eluded him. a shame, really, considering how many of their pokemon seemed to pop up as of recent.

[break][break] "indeed. i will say, however," he glances towards the sea, and the far-away image of sootopolis on the horizon. "hoenn will surprise you."

[break][break] "although, a portion of our region is now encased in ice. so i'm not quite sure how well we fought back."

a kingler skirts along a nearby rock, water splashing against stone.

[break][break] "do you mean sootopolis? or hoenn?"

[break][break] hoenn was a unique region all on it's own, and while he had certainly not felt that way when he'd first landed on the soil, jayden had come to appreciate the small oddities equipped with the region.

[break][break] "do you think that's how they see us?" meaning legendaries, avatars. the mythical beings that were so much stronger than the average human. "pests?"
