i should've known by now it was over

[attr="class","main"] his heard thudded in his chest as he dropped back the third shot of the evening, alcohol burning steadily through his veins. it was a bad idea, a terrible idea. he knew it — bryan delarosa knew it — everyone knew it.

i should've known by now it was over

[attr="class","main"] they were both wasted during their match at the hoenn star tournament — both for different reasons. bryan's probably for joy — and jayden's, the absence of it.

[break][break] it isn't untrue. bryan often told him that he did look depressed. a lot of people did. his absence of emotion tended to have that effect on people.

[break][break] he blinks, somehow pulled from his state of anguish grief as he looks up at his friend. his gaze is bleary as it focuses on the boy - no, man, now - that he had once recruited.

[break][break] he was from kanto too, after all. maybe it was easy to forget, because he did not brandish his experience like that of THEO BECKETT or Cillian Quinn.

[break][break] warmth fills him as bryan tugs him into the crook of his arm. first, jayden is stiff in accepting it - not really used to physical affection - but he eventually loosens. this is bryan, after all.

[break][break] bryan seemed so confident that there would be someone out there for him, but at the moment, jayden can't fathom it. he can't think of anyone that would make his heart flutter the same Chu-e Choi had, couldn't think of a world where someone better could possibly exist.
