The cold of winter has always seemed to be the ambient in which Boreas thrives, which of course, is no surprise to Mars (there’s a reason why the Braviary had been given such a name, after all). Mighty in size and of wings as dark as night, his pokémon flies high overhead – soaring over the Safari Zone it has come to know well.

Or, well, the Safari Zone that it’s familiar with, at least, for every month this place seems to be slightly different.

Different weather.

Different pokémon.
[break][break]
Mars knows well what awaits them, having stopped by this month already, but Boreas… Boreas is as calm as he is cautious. The calm is the important part, though. It’s the effect of the winter weather, given that otherwise the bird-of-prey is nothing short of cantankerous.

With all the snow all around them, the Alolan Sandshrew would perhaps be hard to see from up above for someone – perhaps even for most pokémon. However, Boreas' senses are keen, and when the Ice Type moves through the fields of frost, it catches the attention of the Braviary.

A screech warns Mars himself, and he responds with a whistled note: a command to attack. Naturally, Boreas does so. He dives down, great wings closing in order to speed up his descend, and extending sharp talons, he grabs onto his prey.

Soon enough, the Sandshrew is coated in MYSTICAL FIRE.

The Braviary returns to the skies once its prey is gone, circling over its trainer before continuing to soar over the path through which Mars walks.

They pass by the stream where he knows Staryu rest, but this time around, he doesn’t stop at its shores, nor does he command Boreas to dive down.

He just keeps on walking towards their next target.

Boreas likes fishing. Mars had come to discover that in the long months since he first met the Braviary in a space-time distortion. Today, however, there is no fishing planned, and although a Mareep is quite a different target, Mars is sure his pokémon will have no issue with going after one when he gives the signal.

Not being too keen on looking up, the herd exists completely unaware of the bird-of-prey looming above them until it's too late for them to get away. The banker raises a hand, giving a silent signal much different from the usual whistles. The kind of signal meant for when sounds are not preferable.

Boreas recognizes it, of course, and it’s all the Braviary needs to see in order for him to swoop down upon a Mareep.

Mars hadn’t planned on capturing another Eiscue: just one of the strange ice cube-faced penguins is enough for his collection. Yet, when one of magenta feathers and a face covered in pink ice waddles right by his path, it seems like too good of an opportunity to let it pass.

Even he can’t resist the allure of a shiny pokémon most of the time. There are only a few exceptions to that.

This is definitely not one of them, and so, a decision is made quickly enough.
[break][break]
After a signalling whistle, Boreas strikes, summoning flames around the wild pokémon. Even once its trapped, the assault does not end, and it’s quickly and effectively that ESPER WINGS meet their mark, hitting the Eiscue with the full force of Boreas’ psychic power.

With the shiny pokémon captured in the confines of a Safari Ball, Mars continues walking down the usual path, well aware that only a single one of the camo-coloured spheres that had been given to him when entering the Safari Zone remains empty.

Quite the boring pokémon in his own opinion (which, of course, is always the right opinion), and since he already happens to have one and its evolution too, using the Safari Ball on it would be a waste, wouldn’t it?

So, he keeps on walking, and the Pineco is left undisturbed in the process.

See, it’s also a pokémon of which Mars needs just one: lovely Sigillaria had been diligently trained to be of great help whenever thievery is concerned. But, while Mars may not need another Delibird, he does know a certain courier that always seems to want more, and while it sure makes him concerned over said courier’s finances, who is he to deny the wish of a dear friend?

So, there you go, the perfect Christmas present for Locke Jamison.

He even asks Boreas to be a little bit gentler with it, resulting in no attacks being used when oh so sharp talons pick up the smaller avian and carry it into the skies. How it doesn’t get hurt in the process is a wonder, honestly, but Mars is quick to throw his last Safari Ball.
