[attr="class","skullbody"]Humans were funny creatures. Their brains could conjure up thoughts so complicated that the entire breadth of human language failed to do them justice. Then those same thoughts could be communicated in the span of microseconds, with nothing more than a little bit of silence at just the right moment. It was funny. It was strange. In some ways, it was dangerous. In others, it was liberating.[break][break]

No amount of words could sum up the thoughts that Isaac and Remiel were coming to. But only one was needed to sum up their next move:[break][break]

Later.[break][break]

The fourth floor of the Starlight Casino was one of its most illustrious spots. It offered private games of chance, drink deliveries, and most importantly the promise of quiet. This suited Isaac just fine; for whatever they were going to be discussing, the utmost privacy would be required. Here in Starlight, they'd have all the privacy of a karaoke booth with none of the distraction.[break][break]

Okay. So there were some distractions. The drink that Isaac held, the Galaxy, looked some someone had cut a chunk out of the sky and wedged it into a glass. He couldn't help but stare as he swirled it. Would his disruptions ruin the look of the drink? Or would they only make it look all the more beautiful? It could be hard to judge sometimes.[break][break]

Echo's teleportation was able to get him from bar to bar in the snap of a finger, and strategic Life Dews to the face were keeping his buzz down to healthy levels. If this bar crawl was a competition, he'd be winning it. Hell, he'd actually arrived to their private booth early! With nothing to do but wait for Remiel, Isaac continued contemplating the little piece of infinity inside of his glass.[break][break]

It was far easier than contemplating the reality outside of it.

Remiel had never been to the STARLIGHT CASINO, but he'd certainly heard great things. Nevertheless, he was not one for gambling, so the prince had never felt the pull. It was thanks to the bar crawl, and an invitation from none other than Isaac Merlo himself, that he was here.

Dressed in a dapper suit with hues of navy and black, and a single Luxury Ball at his hip, the ambassador enters the glittering establishment, takes an elevator to the fourth floor, and strides into its lounge area to meet his friend there. He casts a wave and a smile when he sees him, moving forward to enter the booth as they exchange pleasantries.

"How have you been, my friend? Has Rocket been treating you well?" He asks, patting the man on the shoulder before taking his seat. With a slight chuckle at his slightly inebriated state, however, he adds: "And the bar crawl? Has it been treating you well, too?"

A waiter steps in to briefly interrupt the moment and ask what the ambassador will be having. He requests another round for Isaac on his tab, and one of the same for him as well. "Two GALAXIES right away, sir." The waiter nods, leaving.

[attr="class","skullbody"]Damn, Remiel was looking dapper. Isaac did a little double take at how dressed to the nines his fellow was. And here he thought he was wearing his best outfit, that nice midpoint between formal enough to fit at any bar and casual enough to enjoy his bar crawl. Clearly, he'd have to step his game up, especially if he was going to be one of Matt Vice's groomsmen down the line.[break][break]

He asked how Rocket had been treating Isaac. Of course he did. Sometimes, it felt like Rockets talked to each other about Rocket in an elaborate attempt at gaslighting themselves. Hey, fellow Rocket! How's the Rocket been? Rocket-tastic as always? Rocket is so glad to hear that![break][break]

Even with them alone, Isaac had no idea if it was free to air his thoughts. What if Remiel wasn't as on the same page as he thought? "Oh, you know how it is," he said, a soft smile on his face. After all, the fact that they were even having this meeting meant Remiel damn well knew how it was. "Hanging in there as well as I can be, considering. Less tension headaches these days, that's for sure."[break][break]

The bar crawl was going great. And oh dear god, another Galaxy was coming, so it had to get even better! Isaac subtly took a bigger-than-usual sip, not wanting to have two identical drinks kicking around on his side of the table. "Bar crawl's been a treat. After spending so much time at the Howling, it's nice seeing what the rest of Hoenn's watering holes have to offer."[break][break]

"And how're you holding up?"

It'd been some time since Remiel had last visited the icy blue hallways of the TEAM ROCKET SUBMARINE. Truth be told, ever since his RESIGNATION as ADMIN, the royal had kept to himself and his affairs regarding GALAR. He wasn't sure how things were progressing over there, nor how Isaac or any of his other companions that he'd left behind were faring. Nevertheless, the prince smiles.

"That's good," He says, reclining into his seat before crossing one leg horizontally over the other. "I've been enjoying the bar crawl myself lately. It's been my only respite from... other matters I've been attending." Researching KYUREM. Hunting MEGALOPOLANS. Curing ZEKROM. And, of course, navigating the tenuous relationship between himself, the royal crown, and the GALARIAN people.

"Splendid way to meet others," Remiel adds, shifting his gaze somewhat suspiciously outside the booth.

It was a polite invitation, the kind of statement Remiel could just smile and nod away if he didn't want to elaborate. The more time Isaac spent letting people into his life, the more he realized the richness of the lives everyone lead. After spending so mang years with the open road and the setting sun as his only friends, it was always fascinating to just sit back and hear others tell their tales.[break][break]

Besides, Remiel seemed quite lost in thought during their last encounter. Sometimes one just needed to talk to the rubber Ducklett until they figured out how to solve their problems.[break][break]

"As for me? Less meeting people, more catching up with old friends. With how much has been going on lately, its nice not losing sight of that." The Bar Crawl for him had been a whose who of familiar faces. It was a chance to share the end of the year with those most important to him, and an opportunity to deepen his bonds with people he'd like to see more of in the next one.[break][break]

"Not much chance of a new encounter around here, I'm afraid. Fourth floor's for private booths." He cluld see how Remiel cautiously peeked at the door as they spoke. Perhaps this little bit of reassurance, hidden in a veil of disappointment, would help put some of his worries at ease.

Realizing Isaac had caught the look of suspicion in his expression, the royal is quick to erase it with a gentle smile. "Yes, well... I'm honoured to have been invited. Even if I don't exactly fall into the 'old friend' category." He adds, shifting his cobalt-blue eyes back towards the entrance as their waiter returns with their drinks.

Once their server has departed, Remiel takes a moment to gaze into the liquid galaxy in his glass with a rich appreciation for its beauty. "I'm in the process of making some rather significant changes for the new year," He continues, lowering his glass for the time being. "Sometimes that involves burning a few bridges. Though this bar crawl has made me realize that building new ones isn't quite as difficult as one would think." He adds.

Raising his glass and presenting it forward, the prince looks at Isaac and raises a brow. "Shall we toast?"

Would they have as many chances for that? It sounded like "the way" was going to get a lot more complicated for Remiel, and a lot of those opportunities would be disappearing in fire. "New year, new you, huh? I can dig that," Isaac said, nodding in approval.[break][break]

He had so many questions. But first, there was only one proper course of action. "We shall."[break][break]

With glasses raised, he let their galaxies collide. Hopefully, it wouldn't be for the last time.[break][break]

The pact was sealed in a toast. Isaac had shown his approval for Remiel's decision, no matter how many bridges burned along the path. "So, what kinda significance are we talking here?" Isaac asked, an eyebrow raised in curiosity. "This about knight business, or are you setting your sights a little . . . higher?"

"Very true," Remiel agrees. "I find that what little friendships I maintain these days amount to just that due to my responsibilities. I'm glad I've found another who understands."

With that out of the way, however, their toast commences. "To new bridges." The prince smiles, clinking his glass with the others before taking a healthy sip of his Galaxy.

When asked about his plans, Remiel pauses to consider what he can say and what might be better left out for another occasion. Another momentary glance is cast outside of the booth, though this one is far more casual than the previous. "I'm sure you've heard that I recently resigned as ADMIN... yes?" He asks, meeting the lad's gaze.

[attr="class","skullbody"]"Trust me. I get it. That used to be the only friendship I could get." Rocket had, in many ways, pulled him kicking and screaming out of that discomfort zone. It would have been amazing, if it wasn't for all of those friends being condemned to jailtime, death, or eternal servitude under a criminal organization![break][break]

Isaac took a rather large sip of his drink, as if trying to chase that thought out of his head.[break][break]

That said, "eternal" servitude may not have been as eternal as Isaac feared. Remiel had resigned as an admin, a fact that an inattentive observer may have thought was bridge burning in its own right. However, that didn't quite add up. For one, Remiel was still a member of Rocket, even if no longer an admin. For another, he didn't say that he had to burn bridges. He said that he would have to.[break][break]

This resignation was just the kerosene being spread before the real burning began.[break][break]

"I've had to play a lot of catchup, but, yeah. I heard it through the grapevine," Isaac said. "Been wondering what brought that on. Feels increasingly rare to see someone walk away from power. Especially around these parts." Rocket was equal parts a race to the top and a race to the bottom. You didn't just step back. Not without catching some eyes.[break][break]

If Remiel didn't burn that bridge, it'd only be a matter of time before someone else did.

Isaac's thoughts on the matter are certainly of interest to Remiel. Truth be told, he'd been nervous to breach the subject with many of his allies in Team Rocket. The inevitable question as to why he had resigned from his position could easily lead to heated accusations on betrayal.

But, if he simply failed to have these conversations before they even began, then he was certain Walsh would easily seize the narrative himself. In fact, he likely already had. Which was part of what had Remiel so on edge in the first place.

"METENO, and the events surrounding the DARK TRIAD, compelled me to reevaluate my stance on power," The former admin informs his friend, pausing to take another sip of his libation. "There are other matters demanding my attention these days as well... so you likely won't see much more of me at headquarters."

[attr="class","skullbody"]"Ah, please. Like I'm ever around much, anyway." The novelty of being on a hunk of metal at the bottom of the ocean had, frankly, faded a while ago. Did it force him to get out of his comfort zone and meet people? Without a doubt. But he didn't need that crutch to let others in anymore. And he'd grown to miss sleeping under the stars, instead of staring up at a cold, metal roof. By now, visits to the sub were for missions and supplies.[break][break]

Still, the realities of sub life were far from the main takeaway of Remy's point. Recent events were making him reevaluate his choices, and adminhood was on the losing end of that evaluation. Whatever role power played in his new ambitions, it wasn't the power that Rocket brought to bear.[break][break]

"Yeah. Believe me, I get that." The band of Isaac's eyepatch suddenly felt insufferably itchy. He adjusted it a little, trying to find relief. "Course, at least you're lucky enough to get a choice. I'm gonna have a reminder wrapped around my face for the rest of my life."[break][break]

That tone was so bitter, just hearing it would get a Pokemon ready for a Clever contest.[break][break]

He took a sip of his drink to wash out the aftertaste of his words. No matter how often he sipped from it, the Galaxy never lost its luster. It was just a reminder that the universe was far more resilient than any of its inhabitants. Hoenn could wipe itself out in nuclear fire, yet the stars above would never stop shining.[break][break]

"You said Meteno got you thinking, yeah?" Isaac's voice was quiet, pensive. He knew there was only so much Remy would say. There was only so much he could say. "What made it sink on for you?"

The reminder of Isaac's eyepatch comes at the cost of feeling pity for the youth. He shouldn't have to deal with such an injury so early on. It wasn't fair. It didn't seem right to Remiel for someone as dependable and dedicated as Isaac to be a part of the organization he'd grown to resent either. Though, perhaps, he was thinking selfishly.

"What you do moving forward will overshadow that reminder," Remiel assures the lad. "It only holds power over you when you allow it to do so."

The former admin, of course, had similar devils in his life. They endeavored to haunt him constantly, hiding in the periphery of his vision and waiting for any moment of weakness to take advantage of. They were composed of memories, regrets, bad choices, and resentments.

"You said Meteno got you thinking, yeah?"

Remiel nods, taking another sip of his cocktail.

"What made it sink on for you?"

At this, the Galarian takes a moment.

One might even think he's taking some time to savor the taste of his sweet spirit. But, eventually, his cobalt-hues fix themselves onto Isaac as he answers. "The ultimate finality of all things," He grimly responds. "And the audacity of those who toy with it on a grand scale."

[attr="class","skullbody"]Isaac couldn't help it. He let out a quick, sharp laugh at the idea that this eyepatch had no power over him. "C'mon, man. It takes me a few tries just to grab something right in front of my face. Judging distances is harder than its ever been. I might never ride a bike again. This is gonna have power over me for a long time." His voice was quiet and sober, even after the two Galaxies he had polished off.[break][break]

"The question you should be asking is if I'm gonna let that power it has over me beat me." There was that fire again. "And I think we both know that answer." Isaac was never very good at bending the knee to some superior power.[break][break]

Then again, Remiel clearly wasn't either.[break][break]

"A good ol' near death experience, eh?" Isaac asked, flashing Remiel a wry grin. "For you, me, and everyone. You'd think by apocalypse #4, we'd be a little more used to this kinda thing. But I guess this one does hit different forcus."[break][break]

After all, Rocket didn't usually flirt with the end times for momentary gain.[break][break]

It was hard not to feel damned if he did, damned if he didn't sometimes. For a while, Rocket seemed like the only sensible option. The League was grinding Hoenn down into a failed society, and were somehow fumbling the PR game against a literal terrorist cell. Then Walsh decided to pop out of his hidey hole to declare that the League wasn't given enough rope to hang themselves with, so Rocket needed to wage open war over some moon rocks in the shadow of the apocalypse.[break][break]

Did Isaac want Hoenn to die a slow death from Dahlia's strangulation, or did he want to stand back and watch as Walsh smashed his face into the big red button over and over again? "Sometimes, feels like the whole damn region's okay with toying if it means they get to be king shit of the ashes."

Remiel nods in understanding, though doesn't accept the idea that Isaac won't recover from this. Well... in a proverbial sense, anyway. Science had not yet come far enough to cultivate eye transplants and successfully use them to replace one's vision. "I can't imagine what going through that must feel like, but you're right: I know that answer. And, after some time, I'm sure there will be a significant adjustment to living with it."

But, alas, their conversation shifts back to the actions of modern-day Rocket, leaving the missing eye behind:

"A good ol' near death experience, eh? For you, me, and everyone. You'd think by apocalypse #4, we'd be a little more used to this kinda thing. But I guess this one does hit different focus."

"It was our chance to do things differently and inspire real change. Instead, we fell back to our old ways." He sighs, leaning elbows on his knees. The former admin could go deeper, but this doesn't seem like the time or place to do so. Regardless, he continues with his insight. "It feels different because of the weight of that decision."
