A Galaxy Cocktail. Why did she keep ordering things that looked like galarian ponyta vomit? With a grimace at the sweetness of schnapps and grenadine, she contemplated simply washing it down with a quick, effortless chug like any other shot. Instead, she pushed it over towards fern delaney and decided she would upgrade to a whiskey neat. "Here, take care of this for me, will you?" It was free liquor so she doubted the other would object.

She didn't make a habit of drinking with colleagues, if fern delaney and jayden cross could be considered that. If anything she felt like she was interrupting a date. If both Fern and liquor wasn't enough to get the latter of which to lighten up, she didn't know what would. It was still funny to watch the two in their awkward waltz, trying not to trip over one another's stunted humor. The odd balancing act of both trying not to seem interested and also simultaneously a puppy-dog quality from Jayden that she decided was a little sad. It was like a disease, she prayed this never happened to her.

"You said you'd win me big money, Delaney, so where is it? I'm waiting." She had a nasty habit of gambling herself into an early grave, but there was no way in hell she'd miss the absolute clusterfuck that was watching this increasingly-intoxicated twink gambling.

“Ooooh, gimme!” He immediately latch onto the offered galaxy cocktail with greedy fingers, blue eyes wide with delight as they stare down at the swirling, glittery contents. And then he swiftly drank. Honestly, slowing down would be a wise choice, but the turn of the year had Fern full of unexpected nerves, and so he quashed them with the giddy feeling that came with waaaay too many cocktails.[break][break]

It was an honor to have been promoted to admin. Something he’d worked for and had prepared for the opportunity to do. And for the bulk of the holiday month, he’d handled the shift in responsibility as gracefully as one could in the aftermath of near-apocalyptic events. But now, as the year drew to its end, he found himself…uncertain.[break][break]

What if he made a complete fool of himself? What if he bungled the job entirely?[break][break]

Fern typically never suffered a lack of confidence, so to experience it now was jarring. Perhaps his two companions could put two and two together. But for now, he would do his best to forget. He flapped a halfhearted hand at Marza. “Good things come to those who wait, missy,” he trilled before sidling up to Jayden to drag him into the mess. “Got any extra chipssss I can use?” He batted his lashes for effect.[break][break]

Or he thought he did—it was actually just one long, slow blink.

jayden had always meant to catch up with Marza Volchitsa, especially since her injuries garnered during mt. pyre were nothing to laugh about, but the opportunity had presented itself to hang out with the both of them.

[break][break] and of course, the rocket admin was never one to turn down the presence of one fern delaney.

[break][break] as fern tugs on his sleeve, jayden smiles down at him. with an expression that was normally lackluster at best, perhaps someone would be able to notice the soft way that he looked down at the other, even as he was asking for something so petulantly.

[break][break] "i do, actually," he says, hand flicking out to reveal three chips hidden in his knuckles. a slight of the hand, before he slides the chips in their hand.

[break][break] taking a sip of his own galaxy cocktail, jayden glances at Marza Volchitsa. "do you two do this often?"

"Not commonly," She retorted to jayden cross, not wanting to look at the smarmy expression on Fern's face. Of course, the idiot would probably prefer to do more things... for some reason. Marza couldn't fathom Fern's motives most of the time. His interests ran so contrary to her own though that, that was hardly unexpected. Still, considering how awful she was towards him, she didn't know why he wanted so badly to be all buddy-buddy with her.

She probably would never understand, though she couldn't exactly ignore the fact the shit had been seriously concerned about her condition after Mt. Pyre. It was annoying, that she felt she owed him.

Fern & Jayden's relationship was almost as strange to her as she eyed the two. One was annoyingly chipper, the kind to weasel under your skin. The other was... severe, like her. Quiet, hard to read in a respectful sort of way. She didn't know what to think of Jayden either. How annoying.

Fern is, admittedly, already feeling pretty good by that point. In all truth, they should probably be wrangled and contained with the vigor that they drink down the cocktail that had been handed off by Marza. But no, they could not be stopped. This was their moment to put their money where their mouth is. And they would, thank you very much, Marza![break][break]

If there was any attempt for Jayden and Marza to have a sound conversation, it was likely thwarted by Fern’s whining for spare chips. Drink momentarily abandoned on the edge of a card table, both hands were held out pitifully like a pauper child begging for some bread. When Jayden used sleight of hand to produce the requested chips, Fern’s begging was abandoned. “Oooh, how’d you do that?” they asked as they swiped at the chips like a greedy weasel. “Thank youuuu~”[break][break]

They leaned up and bestowed an obnoxious kiss on his cheek, lou mmwah sound and all.[break][break]

A petulant stare was shot back at Marza, though, hands settling on their hips. “I’m super patient, actually,” they huffed snootily, and turned to flounce over to the table to make some bets. Only…ugh, this ruined his dramatic airs. He turned back toward the other two. “Which one was I supposed to do again?”

a small smile tucks at the corner of his mouth as he watches fern delaney dote over those chips, his own attention adoring in a way that jayden does not even know himself. in fact, even if he did realize it, he would probably assume such expressions would be hidden by the dark.

[break][break] the mwahh! that echoes in the bar, however, does make a dull blush dot his cheeks for a moment. jayden blinks — he's not quite used to physical affection.

[break][break] but maybe it's the tolerance for fern, or the fact that he'd already had quite a bit to drink, but jayden says nothing. he simply looks after him, and then back towards Marza Volchitsa when the new admin asks which game he is supposed to play.

[break][break] "whichever you want," he supplies helpfully. or not so helpfully. "i think black jack is free."
