This had to be the epitome of relaxation, truly. With the sun bearing down on her back, the cool ocean breeze leaving a salty spray in her hair, the smell of sunscreen and ocean and... alcohol. Absolute perfection.[break][break]

It wouldn't take her long to locate cait alfric, her best friend was like a beacon of light and beauty in the centre of the room. However, as she neared, she took note of a certain someone she hadn't expected to see.[break][break]

Well, that wasn't entirely true. Elias Burner was a self-absorbed asshole, or at least that's what he had shown himself to be the last time they'd spoken. It had been months since she'd last seen the man, but nothing seemed to have changed. He was still just as hungry for attention as he had been before.[break][break]

It threw her right off of her happy rhythm the minute she laid eyes on him, specifically because he was approaching the person she cared about the most, someone who definitely didn't need a leech hanging off of her.[break][break]

Wadjet, feeling her trainers discomfort, would let a low rumble roll from her throat, leaning her head down to brush her scaley face over her shoulder. Blinking out of her moment of irritation, Stormy's hand would lift to stroke her Charizard's forehead, reassuring her.[break][break]

"I'm okay, don't worry."[break][break]

The truth was though, she was about ready to throw hands in the middle of a very public party. It was likely that she would be caught staring at Elias as she approached, though her gaze would quickly switch to meet Cait's as she dance danced her way over. Linking her fingers through hers protectively, but also affectionately, she would make a point to try and cut Elias out of the conversation.[break][break]

"Cait! I'm so thrilled you're here! That must mean you finally got a chance to take the day off and relax? Me too!"

"elias!"

cait tittered softly as she was greeted by the model, her hand reaching out to happily accept his own. she elegantly swung him about, visibly delighted by his sudden appearance. it had felt like an age since she had last seen him in person, the league-affiliated woman having only followed his social media trail as of late.

"i haven't seen you in forever!"

she invited him to fall into step with her, bouncing upon her two feet as they moved along with the music. the woman made sure to maintain a close proximity to her male counterpart, aware that any amount of distance would prevent conversation due to the amount of noise pollution that permeated the area.

"you've got to tell me how you're doing," she insisted. "how's the league been for you?"

his social media painted the picture of easy adaption - but she felt as though he was likely putting on a facade for his fanbase to make the league appear far more advertiser friendly than it actually was.

"i - "

she felt her hand being taken and startled for a moment before raising her gaze, her facial features lighting up with radiant joy as she was greeted by the sight of stormy - her stormy.

"stormy!"

cait released her hold upon elias as she moved to embrace the woman, laughing airily all the while.

"yes! i got some time off finally! i didn't know you'd be here."

[attr="class","eliaspost"]well, at least he hasn't fucked things up with her. and he knows that, to some extent, the green-haired girl cares about him. or, at least, pities him. he'll take either at this point. a bit of a thrill goes through him when she smiles sweetly at him and reaches for his outstretched hand.

the model is as elegant as the dance floor as he is during a photoshoot. he twirls and spins, laughing airily as they go and can't help the giddy feeling rising in his chest. alienation bleeds away and for a moment he thinks maybe i could belong here.

"i've been just dazzling, darling. and the league? piece of cake. i mean, obviously i'm still not doing work like you, but i'm certainly showing the people what you're made of, and if that's my best contribution then--"

and he comes back from a spin and suddenly stormy is there, hand twining through cait's. he stops suddenly, rigidly, and someone bumps into him from behind, spilling beer all over the back of his shirt. the thin fabric turns see-through and he twists, snarling at the degenerate who'd bumped him.

spine etched, prominent, ribs curved, he suddenly feels exposed.

it makes him angry.

cait is still laughing, enjoying her friend's company, and jealousy is a sharp knife to the gut. ambrosia chirps to his left, a warning sign to elias, though the bat is distracted and shooting daggers at the drunken fool who, unbeknownst to him, is going to have started a whole bunch of shit.

he steps back into their circle, dancing as though nothing's wrong, syrup sweet smile on his face, eyes like daggers. "hello, friend. long time no see. cait and i were just catching up. but how are you doing, hm?"

For a moment, Cait's voice is a crashing wave of relief. For a moment, she forgets all about Elias entirely. The man melts into the background of her thoughts as the green-haired woman embraces her in a joyous hug. Stormy breathes a deep sigh of relief, visibly relieved to see her again.[break][break]

Unfortunately, the feeling doesn't last long. Just as Cait breathes the last syllable of her words, a horrible snarl distracts her. Eyebrows furrow in concern before she places her eyes back on Elias. Apparently someone had bumped into him with drinks. His shirt was soaked, exposing ribs and spine. He's thin.[break][break]

Stormy doesn't address him though, not until he forces his way back into their pairing. All of a sudden it's a dance trio, not a dance duo.[break][break]

His catty voice is like a slap in the face, but Stormy laughs overdramatically, waving him off.[break][break]

"Oh, you know, just enjoying the afternoon with my League colleagues. It's so nice to hear you talking so proudly of the League, Elias! Wasn't it just the other day you were shit talking us all and making it seem like we're useless and you're so kind as to pick up our broken pieces and display them?"[break][break]

Of course, she was being catty. There was a grin across her face, but her eyes were like daggers, begging Elias to defend himself. Because, after all, wasn't she at least a little bit right? The specific details of what he had actually said to her last time they'd spoken were foggy, clouded in her blind rage.[break][break]

"Or is this all a show? Some new publicity stunt to paint us as the good guys because 'we need all the help we can get', right? Isn't that what you said?"[break][break]

Her grip on Cait's hand has tightened, and she promptly realises this and let's go, a cloud of guilt and regret crossing her mind. In a way, Elias had been right. After the rescue mission to retrieve Dahlia, the news had been hard-hitting, painting the League as the 'not-so-good guys' due to their violence in the process. [break][break]

"You're a fake, Elias. You hide behind TV screens and cameras, you pretend like you know how to help people. But you don't. All you know how to dp is trash talk and hurt people."[break][break]

Stormy's hand clenches into a fist, and she takes a threatening step closer to him. One word out of his mouth and she's probably gonna sock him. Stormy Silph is about to get into a fight.

The sun beamed down, his lightly oiled body glinting a beam off the curvature of his muscled figure. The councilman walked towards the group with a toothy smile, his arms wide open as he approached, a calm and serene atmosphere following him as he neared.

“If it isn’t my favorite people, Kat and Storms! Did you guys know that the bar over there is giving out free booze? I haven’t drunk this stuff since Valentines, but I think it’s watered down or something.”

His words were slurred and his stance was wobbly, the councilman clearly inebriated, his breath wafting the strong scent of liquor to any that caught wind of its stench.

For a moment he would ponder the scene, looking between Stormy and Elias quietly, assessing the situation before the goofy smile turned upside down, a frown cementing itself on his face as he put a hand on Stomys shoulder.

“Are you guys fighting? Das no good. This is supposed to be a party, you guys are supposed to be having fun, and smiling, like me!”

He’d point to his own face, the smile once more forming on his lips, continuing his speech right after the brief pause.

“So let’s just, be friends - make nice -” His hands would clap together in a sort of peaceful way. “- and hold hands, like a family.” After seperating, his hands would go to grab both Stormy and Elias’, still standing in the middle of them with a content smile.

Until he spotted Cait, his eyes shifting between both hands before kicking up sand with a foot as he stretched it forward.

“You can hold my foot if you’re feelin’ left out.”

the young woman was left gobsmacked as she bore witness to the conversation's utter disintegration.

"what?"

her friends had transitioned from bright-eyed and high energy to an unsavory combination of irritable and overly aggressive; their words specifically tailored to sting and do an excessive amount of harm. and cait couldn't help but grimace as they indulged in a verbal quarrel before her very eyes, though she feared that stormy would soon leap upon the petite elias at a moment's notice.

'so they've already met,' she concluded.

and apparently their previous interactions had made for less than pleasant ones. cait opened her mouth to speak so that she could play the part of the mediator, hoping to perhaps ease the tension.

"i - "

- but of course kim made the decision to insert himself into the situation, likely wielding his talents as a charismatic politician to mend the rapidly deteriorating scenario.

'oh.'

cait's gaze shifted to take in the man's exposed chest and chiseled features, an appreciative hum soon slipping past her painted lips.

"i'll be fine," she replied, smoothly. "but thanks for the offer."

she moved to give kim a swift spank to the rear, her lips curling to reveal teeth as she grinned widely at the male.

"i appreciate the assist."

she was hopeful his facade would crumble for a moment - just a moment - so that she could perhaps see a flash of embarrassment.

'the month's not over. not yet,' she thought.

[attr="class","eliaspost"]oh so she is going to wave her dirty laundry right in front of everyone's noses. elias puffs out his chest just a tiny bit and no doubt stormy can see the smugness in his eyes, the exhilaration he feels at this catty back and forth. this is his battleground. not violence and bloody beatings, but clever wordplay.

people can be destroyed with words just as easily as they can a blow to the head.

"not all of us. after all, i am part of the league." he laughs coyly, implication obvious.

he waves a hand at her accusations with a roll of his eyes. "darling, don't pretend you know the first thing about my life. bit of an oxymoron there, don't you think? hiding behind tv screens and cameras? i am perfection because i must be perfection."

his life is constantly on a spotlight, and although stormy's accusations ring true, he certainly doesn't have to--nor will he--admit to it. at this point, ambrosia has grown tired of being jostled by the crowd and he's taken to the air. he circles lazily and his shadow casts down on elias, providing him some comfort from the harsh heat that beats down on them.

he juts his chin to the edge of the crowd, where a few inconspicuous looking people wearing sunglasses are half-turned away from the group. "take them for example. i'm sure those photographers got a nice couple of photos of you angrily yelling at me, and considering my news reports about the league and the recent press release from some of your colleagues, i can only imagine the article isn't going to be posted in your favor."

he laughs churlishly and then stumbles as a drunken someone leans into their group. he can smell the alcohol on the man's breath and turns his head, nose crinkling, though his eyes wander over the soft curves of his cheeks, the strong build to his body. elias raises a brow as the man takes his hand, but he allows him to.

"well, look at you, peacemaker. i'll certainly play nice as long as you stick around," he purrs.

His words are like a slap in the face. They just keep coming and coming, like a torrent wave. It's clear that he's the better arguer, that he knows more biting words and knows how to string them along to cut deeper.[break][break]

Her fist that was already balled into a fist began to shake, her teeth grind together painfully as she winds up to sucker punch him. [break][break]

Fortunately, Elias' pretty face is saved by Kim Cole's hand enclosing her loose one. His fingers slip easily between hers, a comforting gesture. Although he's slurring, he's pulled her out of her blind rage momentarily. Stormy glances to Cait just in time to see both her reaction of sadness and surprise at the fight she had just started, but also her grin as she slapped Kim's ass.[break][break]

Unsure what, exactly, to make of this situation, especially now that Elias had turned to also flirt with Kim, Stormy would wrench her hand out of Kim's to storm away.[break][break]

"You're dirt on the bottom of my shoe, Elias."[break][break]

Her Charizard would puff smoke, curling her tail around her ankles protectively as she would push her way past Kim and Cait. There's tears in her eyes and a fire in her cheeks. She's embarrassed and humiliated and still full of rage. It is more than likely that in her attempt to escape a heated situation, she might slam into someone else along the way. [break][break]

Unlike FERNANDO SILPH , Kim enjoyed interactions such as these, the natural people pleaser within coming forth, unabashed by his current state and too lost in the sauce to think about anything other than his actions in the current moment.

So it was no surprise when he paid no mind to Cait’s gentle tap to the ass that she delivered so graciously. Kim would just brush it off as an accident, because she should know better than to sexually assault someone; a drunken someone at that.

Instead he looked to Elias with the same goofy smile, his features softened as he spoke, words a little smoother but still that of an intoxicated individual.

“I think we could do more than play nice with each other.”

He let out a bubbly chuckle, his head tilting back as he almost loses his balance, Stormy storming off in a huff.

“Where you goin sweet thang? We ain’t even started partying yet!”

For a moment he would think of following her, but with his drunken mind, he could not stay on one subject for long. Instead his ears perked up to the music, his body involuntarily moving to the beat.

For everyone watching, it was all too late.

The music had taken over.

stormy's behavior was worrying - especially since it harshly contrasted with the mood which presently permeated the air. as elias partook in the distracting company of the drunken councilman as he began to sway to the music; cait shifted the entirety of her focus toward her fire-type counterpart. she managed to gather the attention of her pokemon with a few concise gestures, each one following her through the the dense and constantly shifting crowd.

"stormy," she called.

her voice was initially drowned by the music and she'd be forced to dramatically raise her volume.

"stormy!"

cait reached for the girl's hand, a hint of a frown upon her face. she forced herself to smile a little, hopeful that a grin would somehow lift the young silph's mood by a sizable enough margin.

"are you and elias - ?"

she paused as she considered the words that had been harshly exchanged.

"you don't like each other?"

it was a fairly obvious question if one took stormy's parting words into consideration.

"i - sorry. i didn't know."

[attr="class","eliaspost"]this is so much harder. it's easy to be catty, petty, downright mean to other models. they're all vapid, all self-absorbed, all just as shitty as he is. their field is a battlefield of its own, and elias has known the taste of victory for a very long time. now, though, with his same self-preserving tactics doing their job, he can't feel satisfied.

stormy's more than just a pretty face. he knows as much from the tears she's shed, tears he caused.

someone nearly bumps into him again and he sidesteps, reaches out to grab the solo cup while they drunkenly stumble. he tilts the plastic towards his face, grimacing at the sweetness that touches his tongue. "did you put any liquor in this?" he calls irritably. he flexes his fingers, blinks away as they balloon before him, mouthful of sugar pressing against his skin.

he turns his attention back to the drunk councilman, slides a daring hand at the small of his back, cocks his head. "care to dance? since our partners have left us high and dry?"

and while elias is doing what he does best (which is to say, ignoring the problem at hand) ambrosia circles above, keen ears listening to the conversation between cait and stormy. indignant, protective, the bat dives towards the two, wings unfurled and filling with air like sails just above them. he flutters, finding footing beside the two among the writhing mass of drunken bodies.

he tilts his head, rose gold circlet wrapped around permanently damaged ears, crudely cut from another lifetime ago. he makes a couple of clicking noises and puffs up his fur.

cait listened to stormy's words and processed them for a period of time, visibly mulling over a response all the while. everything that she had said highlighted elias's personal flaws; flaws that were very easily identifiable in the young man.

"that's just how socialites tend to carry themselves, stormy."

she hated playing 'devil's advocate' but she felt as though she should defend at least a certain aspect of the model's lifestyle.

"they have to maintain a mask and a certain image to remain relevant in this day and age," she said. "didn't you notice how thin elias was?"

cait had noticed - and she noticed it even now. it was one reason why she didn't judge elias too harshly, tolerating the unsavory portions of his personality so that she could maintain their friendship. he was beautiful in so many ways - but she supposed that didn't prevent him from being viewed as a liar as well as a coward.

"he doesn't have to be your friend. but try to at least respect him as a comrade," she continued. "that's all i'm asking. there's plenty of people i don't personally fancy but i try not to let them get under my skin."

Stormy visibly stiffened at how quiet Cait was. Normally the woman was quick to stand on her side of the fight, to defend her and agree with her. Perhaps it was foolish to think that she might now. [break][break]

It was like a slap in the face to hear Cait defend him so readily, to defend his flaws and reason with them. As if it was okay for her to be treated so terribly, as if it was just part of his natural charm. 'Just get over it' was what she was trying to say.[break][break]

The dark-haired woman takes a step back, mouth open in shock and anger, her eyes ablaze with indignation. Her hands are shaking, and when Cait finishes her speech, Stormy's voice quakes as well.[break][break]

"I have been stepped on and silenced and shit on my whole life, Cait. I'm not the type of person to just let it go, to allow myself to dishonor myself any more than I already do. I'm tired of letting people walk all over me and being expected to act like they can just get away with it. I'm worth more than that."[break][break]

Wadjet's awkward presence in the background is suddenly remembered, and Stormy snaps her thumb and forefinger together quickly, urging the Charizard to follow her. [break][break]

The beast does as she's asked, glancing back at Cait with sorrow in her eyes.[break][break]

Angry tears are swiped from Stormy's cheek as she forces her way clumsily through the crowd, desperate to escape the fear and sadness she's feeling.[break][break]

The splish splash of water is surprisingly encouraging, and she heads in that direction in the hopes that sitting by the water and dipping her toes in the water might cool her off.[break][break]

She won't even notice that she's sharing space with a stranger unless they speak up to talk to her.
