A world frozen over, forced into silent submission.

Penelope had visited the time capsule a few weeks earlier, but given her company, it hadn't been a fruitful expedition. Maybe this time she'd be able to investigate more of it's harrowing winds. Turning to her company, the councilwoman smiled, bright eyes shining through the fluffed up scarf covering her cheeks.

"I'm glad you were both able to make it today."

When Lia had been assigned to record data on the Silent Icelands for Hoenn’s historical archives, she had not expected to end up on a small expedition with her own sister, but it’s a welcomed surprise all the same. Doubtlessly, their parents would be happy to hear about their daughters working together.

”I have before, but not this area.” She says in response to Penny’s question, since sadly this is not the or the place to tell her about Marshall Slade teaching her to snowboard in the area of the iceland that had inevitably been made into a recreational winter paradise by the locals. They have to profit from their frozen land somehow, right?

One of the first things Claudine learned when she left the rangers (what a charitable way to think about it) for academia was that horror and curiosity, despair and discovery, are fellows of a sort. That the worst things you see are often the best way toward understanding. Sometimes the only way.

She also learned that it doesn't make looking at the horror any easier.

Just like observing Galarian Corsola born in a dead reef, or pictures of Alolan Muk crawling out of an oil-ruined seaside, looking at the pokemon frozen in place here in the Silent Icelands fills her with the most noxious mix of anticipation and sadness.

There's no doubt countless things to be learned here if only one can stand the sight of it.

"Yes, it's my first time . . ." Claudine almost mumbles, walking tentatively towards a few Zigzagoon -- preserved perfectly in their flight from whatever caused this damage -- before lowering herself into a crouch beside them, "I appreciate the invitation."

She stands upright again at the sound of a greeting behind her, and schools her expression into one of polite pleasure when a hand is extended to her. When she meets it her grip is firm but not painful, the handshake she gives stiff but not rigid.

"I look forward to working with you today. And please, you can call me Dede."

If not for the life they brought to the icelands, they'd be left with nothing more than ice and decay, and become another dull remnant of the damage Kyruem caused.

The sun was still held high into the air, casting a bright wide wave of warmth over the forgotten wastelands. It wasn't enough to combat the cold, but it made their expedition manageable.
