An axew sneaks up as well, but the same trick doesn’t work twice and it’s quickly shooed away.[break][break]

“Oh, very much so.” Fern likes to think they still are, though he doesn’t write or call or visit as often as he should. Granted, life here has been a bit hectic in the last months to keep track of it all.[break][break]

Naturally they were their sole support system. Though his da was always a kinder, better person than Fern himself.

somehow, it would be better if he wasn't. familial ties have their place in rocket but they usually end up being crutches. weaknesses for people to exploit.[break][break]

"Mm," the cadence of Fern's hum is somber, and their mouth opens to reply when they're cut off by a crashing in the water.[break][break]

A kabutops lifts up out of the water, intent on slashing their line with one of its sycthe-like arms. Fern is quick to release on of his decidueye, whose long reach sends her attack across the water to knock the fossil pokemon away. After a swift succession of LEAFAGE, the kabutops is detained and they can resume their rudely interrupted conversation.[break][break]

"I have, though he might remain stubborn yet." They shake their head with a sigh. "I'm not sure if everything has yet to reach Stow-on-Side, however."

The two-headed zweilous flutters by, or tries to, on its stumpy wings. But Fern makes no move toward it, leaving it be in favor of adjusting his line in the river.[break][break]

They sigh quietly, then cast a feeble smile over toward their superior.

Normally, they have a need to fill any space with chatter, but they find that it’s not always a necessity in Theo’s company. Is that relieving? Fern supposes it must be.[break][break]

Or fishing is really that powerful.[break][break]
