Many of those who know him would say that Martín del Mar always has a plan, and often times, those many would be right. The Safari Zone is no exception to this rule. In fact, when viewing the list of the warden’s current stock, he had taken the time to determine which Pokémon he’d like to capture and how many visits to the Safari Zone it would take to get them all.

The list for this first visit goes as follows:

- A Scorbunny for his collection.

[break]

- A Pancham for his collection.

[break]

- A Cutiefly for BARNABY FINCH.

What? He has four Safari Balls at his disposal, so of course he’ll make good use of them.

So, that’s the plan, and there’s only one thing that might make Mars deviate from it as he steps into the Safari Zone with his Persian by his side. We’ll see if that happens or not.

First up in the shopping list: Darumaka. Honestly, Mars had grown to have a certain appreciation for the small Zen Charm Pokémon, although that may just be because of what a struggle it had been to find one to gift to BARNABY FINCH for his fire type collection. Of course the warden would add them to his Safari repertoire not even a month later. Typical.

So, is he about to beat up this Darumaka out of pure spite, then?

Of course not!

See, while Mars may have a Darmanitan (it’s Zen Mode form is Psychic type), he does not have the pre-evolved form, so here he is, patching up that small hole in his collection. Dollar is glad to help him with the task too, and with a quick succession of WATER PULSES, the first item in their list is crossed out.

Bells chime, a sound a psychic specialist is no stranger to. Not the deep and loud sound produced by a Bronzong, but the small and gentle one of a Chingling being carried away by the wind. Dollar looks up at it, deep chattering rumbling in his throat as if excited for the prospect of pouncing on it.

Sadly for the Persian, Chingling is not on today’s shopping list, and so they must let it be.

Thankfully, Dollar is ever too obedient to act without Mars’ instructions, and as soon as the banker keeps walking, the huge feline pokémon is quick to follow along.

Admittedly, as much as Mars is known to be considered somewhat of a cat person, the Scorbunny that soon crosses their path may just have one over Dollar when it comes to cuteness. It hops from foot to foot as if standing on hot stones, and even if that’s the case, it seems to be really enjoying itself.

The Persian’s rumbling snarl quickly puts an end to its enjoyment, and instead it looks shocked and terrified. Had Dollar guessed Mars’ thoughts? No, the Persian is probably just aware of what is obvious to Mars now: the Scorbunny is subpar.

He whistles for Dollar to chase.

A scared pokémon will never have a spot in his team, but the collection is another matter entirely.

The next one is Pancham, which sure as hell are adorable too... if it weren't for their godawful attitude.

The first one they encounter seems to think extremely highly of itself: leaning against a tree with an attempt at swagger instead of running away when seeing them. Does it think it owns this place? Apparently, because it seems to intend to fight Dollar when their gazes meet.

Dollar gives a warning roar and the Pancham seems to doubt itself for a second. It charges all the same, and it's then that Mars does no more than click his tongue.

The Cutiefly gather in a small swarm, flying over a field that struggles to remain untouched by winter's frost. Mars could just send Dollar to grab one for him, but where would the fun be in that?

Instead, he decides to take a selfie, making sure the Bee Fly Pokémon are noticeable in the background. This selfie is then sent to BARNABY FINCH, followed by the following message:

Mere teasing, obviously, since a moment after sending this message Mars whistles for his Persian to put one of the nearby Cutiefly to sleep, a Safari Ball ready.
