SLATEPORT CITY was large, and quite a long way from RUSTBORO. Nevertheless, Remiel Calcifet had made the journey to assist a coworker of his at the GALARIAN EMBASSY. A daughter of hers had gone missing, a little more than five years younger than the CROWN PRINCE. She'd been sighted in a downtown cafe just a day ago and had met with a suspicious man there.

The eyewitness reports and a single credit card purchase at a local department store had pointed Remiel and his GENGAR in the direction of SLATEPORT HARBOR. The former walked through a fish market, holding up a neatly laminated photo of the girl to anyone who would stop and listen. "Amy Beven. Have you seen this girl, perhaps?"

Never in her life had she thought that she'd be out looking for a classmate she wasn't even that close to. Something about their disappearance had circulated through the usually gossipy class chat that she kept on mute, little rumours about how she had some secret meetings with a man just yesterday and hadn't been heard from since. Now, she'd usually leave such things to the groups of besties to sort out or simply wait for them to resurface within another few hours, but this kind of behaviour just wasn't something that anyone would expect of Amy.[break][break]

Well, neither were the page long rants about her parents that she had begun to drop in the girls-only chat as of late.[break][break]

Just goes to show that even the smartest of people can make the strangest choices in the name of... love? Mystery? Intrigue? Maybe she was facing huge amounts of pressure from her parent's side and decided to run?[break][break]

That really sounds like some kind of plot right out of the many romance novels she reads.[break][break]

Of course, to even start offering her assistance, she'll need a few more leads on the case. So there she is in the middle of a rather crowded fish market, her Espeon slinking right by her side as she tries to pick any familiar face out of the crowd. And she does! Kind of - She spies someone else waving around a picture of the exact same person she's looking for.[break][break]

Maybe they know something she doesn't?[break][break]

Sidling on over, she takes the empty spot available, peeking at the photo just to make sure she hasn't made a mistake.[break][break]

"She's been having a whole secret meeting situation with a guy that no one else knows much of. Seemed kind of upset with her parents, the last I heard of her. Are you the mystery guy she's been meeting with or something?"

Hope emerges in the form of a young, black-haired girl with the gleam of recognition in her eyes. When she spills the proverbial beans, Remiel is quick to withdraw the photo and replace it with a small notepad instead. Next, he pulls out a pen, clicking it open before jotting down the bullet points. In the back of his mind, he recalls playing detective with his brother when they were kids.

When the young lady brings up the notion that he might be the suspicious man in question, however, Remiel shakes his head. "I work with Amy's mother. I offered to help find her." He adds, lowering his notepad so he may offer a handshake. "GALARIAN AMBASSADOR Remiel Calcifet at your service. Are you a friend of Amy's?"

He almost looks like a professional detective with how quickly he pulls out that notepad. That or she's easily impressed, and that seems to be the more likely case in this scenario.[break][break]

"So you work at the... oh... oh you're that. Oh." It takes a minute for his words to register, another for them to sink in as she stares at Remiel Calcifet. "I- uhm... Amaryllis Karneva, a classmate of hers." She reaches for the extended hand stiffly, taking it for a rather weak handshake on her part.[break][break]

"Had a few class assignment with her before. She's a straight A's, social butterfly kinda gal, loves texting people in the middle of the night and as soon as she gets a new message. None of us expected her to suddenly start ghosting."

A classmate? Remiel's surprised to see her way out here, frankly. The pungent fish market and the seedy alleyways of the harbor it resided in seemed like no place for a young student. Nevertheless, he replies with a smile. "Pleasure to meet you, Amaryllis. I'm glad to see Amy has such good friends looking out for her."

As she goes on to describe the type of person Amy is, the prince recalls hearing much of the same from her mother. Though she'd also mentioned Amy acting bizarre as of late... secretive and moody. "How odd... any idea why she'd be in a harbor?" He remarks, looking at their surroundings.

She squints a little as he brings up the term 'friends', holding up her hand as if attempting to stop him from going any further with the thought.[break][break]

"Acquaintances. I'm just helping out since her proper friends are worried."[break][break]

And as for why the illusive gal might be in such a shady place? Amaryllis follows Remiel Calcifet's gaze and begins to speak her mind as she points to each landmark.[break][break]

"Good fishing, good food, adventure or escape. She's got enough street smarts to know how to avoid shady locations but if we're considering how distant she's being with her parents..." Her attention falls to the board advertising trips to Unova. "Extreme, but possible."

Remiel pauses to think, shifting his eyes between each establishment but settling on the one selling travel. "So you're saying she wasn't kidnapped? She's running away?" Despite the commotion made around her disappearance, and the assurances of her own mother, Remiel had always kept that possibility in the back of his mind.

So, nodding, he advances towards it. "Right. Without knowing the identity of the suspicious man she was seen with, I suppose we can't rule out that it wasn't a secret lover of some sort. I'll go ask some questions. Thank you for your assistance." He adds, assuming she'll just go away and leave it all to him and his Gengar.

There's no helping the shrug she gives. After all, it's just a gut feeling built off the whole assumption that they're talking about a rebellious genius rather than some gullible chick.[break][break]

"Moody, secretive, not doing too well with her family. I'd say yeah, any person who'd wanna keep their sanity would try to get away. Even better if there's someone else egging then on." Reaching out to scratch behind Dianthus' ears, Amaryllis nearly stumbles when she hears Remiel Calcifet's dismissal.[break][break]

"Hey uhm... I know you said you're the Galarian ambassador and all. But I think you might be the definition of someone she'd least want to see." Does she sound a little exasperated? She's probably more tired than anything else but she powers through after giving Dianthus a few good scratched behind the ear. "That and well, let's just say I don't quite... trust you either?"

Remiel stops in his tracks when the young woman begins making her remarks, turning over his shoulder to regard her once more. His Gengar, too, emerges from the dark of his shadow and turns to her with a wide piano key grin. It seems she doesn't trust him. Nor does she believe that her classmate would trust or go with him either.

After a brief pause, however, the prince nods. He takes no offense to her words. They'd only just met, after all. "So you'll be coming along with me, then?" He says, tucking away his notepad. "Very well. Let's be on our way."

Facing the busy market street ahead, however, Remiel spots a photographer snapping photos of them from behind the cover of a fish crate. The ambassador sighs but continues onward, weaving effortlessly through the crowd and expecting Lis to follow. "Apologies in advance for whichever ridiculous tabloid you might find yourself on tomorrow."

The way he handles her comment is mature, but it still doesn't do much in helping assuage her worries. And she only feels like she's right when he mentions something about being on a tabloid?[break][break]

"They really thought it was a good idea to have some high profile person such as you look for their missing daughter?" Her brows furrow as she follows right behind. Ending up in a tabloid wouldn't really mean much to her unless it somehow got Killian Decker raising hell, to which she has to say it isn't her fault. "Haven't you ever just... I dunno? Ask your more secretive pokemon to destroy their cameras or help shake them off your tail?"[break][break]

And there's no effort made on Dianthus' part to conceal her snicker, the Espeon brushing through the crowd and making space for her ward to walk as they make their way towards the travel agency. Upon stepping in, Remiel Calcifet is met with a mixed reaction, from a dull look to the brightest, most flirtatious smile as the woman behind the counter ushers him in.[break][break]

Forget her own reputation, Amaryllis is sure that whatever photographer on his tail is having a field day with this one. And so the girl slinks into a corner, keeping a lookout for familiar faces whilst Remiel gets his ear talked off by the assistant. Every now and then, she looks down to her phone, sending a quick message to Amy and listening out for any pings.[break][break]

For all they know, that girl could be long gone.

Remiel shakes his head. "It wasn't their idea; I offered." The royal responds, looking over his shoulder to see if she was sticking close. At her suggestions, however, he almost laughs. "Destroying their cameras is never a good look. And, as proficient as I've become in losing them, I simply don't have the time right now. They also happen to be very stubborn."

He didn't expect her to understand. Most people could not. Frankly, he'd learned to live with the occasional paparazzi or two hovering over his daily life here and there. He didn't necessarily care for it, of course, but he also wasn't as involved in as many salacious and dubious things as he used to be. Not publicly, anyway — and not anymore with Team Rocket.

Before too long, however, they reach the travel agency and enter. Almost immediately, Remiel notes the coquettish gleam in the attendant's eyes and smiles. Obtaining information might prove easier than he had believed, he thinks, gesturing for Lis to take a seat and let him handle this on his own.

"They're at Harbor 43," The Galarian says upon returning, reaching for the door's exit and pulling it open for amaryllis karneva with a polite gesture. "I know a shortcut. Let's go." His time as the Admin in charge of smuggling operations had helped in his familiarity with this place.

"I'm pretty there's something about your rights to privacy, you know?" Raising an eye, she wonders if he's just grown used to the attention. Or perhaps, he seeks it. There really isn't much else she can say about the matter when she barely knows this man.[break][break]

But she sure is learning a lot, considering how easily he slides into conversation with that blushing attendant. And when he pulls away, he's teased an answer right out of her quivering lips.[break][break]

"Guessing you do that quite often." Amaryllis sighs but moves quickly out of the door, making sure that Dianthus sticks close by as they start their little trip towards the specified dock. "In a really... strange sense, you remind me of someone. He's a little more secretive though, when it comes to his day to day life being tracked."[break][break]

Her phone pings once, then twice, her gaze dropping to the flashing screen as she reads through the messages. Amy wanting space, especially after all the stressful things happening in the region? Good chance as ever considering the border having disappeared? She can sure understand the sentiment, but Amaryllis really doesn't know if she'd make such drastic choices.[break][break]

So she speeds up, almost rounding the corner and slamming into a familiar figure.[break][break]

"Lis? What are you doing here?"[break][break]

"Uhm... checking up on you after you ghosted your girls? Are you just escaping for a few days or are you leaving for good?"

"And they'd argue it's their right to conduct journalism in a public setting," The Galarian counters, though certainly not in any sense that he's defending the paparazzi. "It's been brought to court before, I assure you. Not just by me, of course, but countless others who they have hounded." He sighs.

Nevertheless, the ambassador doesn't care to go into the specifics much more than that afterward. Thankfully, Lis moves on to regard his flirtations instead, then compares him to an unknown in her life. He chuckles. "I envy anyone who doesn't have the public spotlight on them, quite frankly. The freedom to do what you want or go where you want without prying eyes is a blessing."

Just then, Lis bumps into someone. As Remiel turns to regard their conversation, however, he is suddenly tackled and pushed against a wall by a hooded figure. It's a young man, perhaps just a year or two older than Lis. Though he could have easily kneed himself free of this shove seconds after, the crown prince keeps his hands up instead and lets the individual carry on with his attempt at intimidation.

"Who are you?! Why are you looking for us?!"

In his aggressive state, the man fails to notice a Gengar slinking from Remiel's shadow into his own.

Read up on precedents set regarding such cases. It's a passing thought that she'll keep for later, just to satiate her curiosity and bide her time. And well, for something that the crown prince wants, he sure doesn't fight for it very much.[break][break]

She supposes the only thing she can do for him is pray that he'll find a way out of this.[break][break]

Much like how she hopes he doesn't get choked out at the hands of a somewhat feral stranger.[break][break]
