"One distraction coming up. " The power of the Moltres shield blast was powerful, able to be felt behind the power of Mr. Mime's protect. Booms sounded as psychic energy would meet blasts of fire. Ryuji cursed to himself, reaching for his pokeballs located on his belt. He didn't really have much of a wave to combat the flames directly. No water Pokemon on hand, and Tank, his Blastoise, had been currently enjoying life as a lifeguard on one of the beaches in Hoenn. The blasts continued as he'd try and make some kind of play here. Ace or Madame was the right play as he'd begin to shake and then pulled out the pokeball. "Get o-out...there..." he trailed off, the noise...that horrible noise continuing to ring in his ears. The man froze, the world's sound being muted out as his eyes widened in fear. His heart continued to beat in a rapid pace as he'd feel his feet unable to move. Thoughts returned to to that place long ago.

It was mid evening, sirens blaring an emergency tone as soldiers and people around Ryuji would run about. His fellow police officers secured routes for civilians to find shelter and escape. The sound of footsteps beating against the paved, damaged roads echoed no matter where he turned. Although only a lieutenant at the time, he had been present to witness everything. Children cried in confusion on fear, superiors shouted out orders and positions to stop Rocket's advance. He sat beside his unit, his team by his side as just over the horizon, Rocket members approached in hordes. That's when he had first realized that his squad had not been placed to push the enemy back in some miraculous force.

It was to buy the town enough time to evacuate.

His hands shook but feet remained planted firm. People called to their Pokémon. Explosions sounded off across the sky. His once peaceful home had forever been scarred with the beating of a million feet, the echoes of a thousand cries above. People fell. Some friends he had talked to just hours ago. Others of Rocket members in anguish. Their faces blurred together as instinct flooded into his system. A source of heat came from above as forces rallied together to fuel some attack from the fire. Dragon types swooped from above as explosions rang out. Ryuji felt himself thrown every which way. Panic and cries range forth bbled out by the resulting chaos as the attacks found their mark

And then, silence.

Everything was over in an instant. He awoke amidst a scene of carnage. The city he had known to love since he was born, rendered an uninhabitable shell of its former self. Adrenaline flooded into his body to stand, though he would soon come to regret that. A battlefield of not Rocket victory but senseless destruction lied before him. The bodies of unfortunately civilians and more who couldn't get out in time greeted his awakening. Expressions of shock and horror as corpses rested in varying degrees of mutilation from the attack. The bodies of a select few amount of soldiers huddled together underneath an upturned truck came nearby,

In a moment of panic, he dashed towards one body in particular. The same man he had known for years since being sworn into the police. The same man he had gotten to know and love. His hands fell onto a cold and still chest as he grabbed at his uniform. Shouts and cries rang out but no sound came. He could never forget that face, his dying breath, the taste on his lips that would never leave. Ryuji held his hand as he died, praying that somehow, he could go with him.

"..." Ryuji blinked, having not realized what was happening. His mind had just...blanked at what had been happening at that current moment. His heartbeat raced on and on until he could breath normally again in an attempt to calm himself. It was a slow measure, but the sound of the Moltres in front of them was becoming louder, the beating of its wings, the shouts at him as he felt something licking his arm. Eyes peered down to see Ace looking up, his head pressed against Ryu's side. Instinctively, a hand went to the orange furred Arcanine as he was returning to normal again. He looked to Nagi, whistling to Ace as he'd let out a fierce bark. Ace charged up and then let out a Flamethrower of its own, aimed at the Moltres in an attempt to draw its attention from Eris and Killian. "We need to keep this thing's attention for a bit. How much longer can you keep hold it it back?"

Finding the truth in Eris' words must wait until later. When Killian didn't have an angry spirit bearing down on him. "Charge a meteor beam." Killian muttered. The alien underneath his skin has other plans, however. It waits, watching as the others assault Moltres from all sides. [break][break]

Moltres bellows an angry, pained squawk. How dare they fight back. How dare these humans attempt to escape its wrath. Moltres squawked again and soared above them. The wind itself bent to its will as it passed, shifting into crescent-shaped blades that launched at the group.[break][break]

Killian tried to move out of the way, but his legs refused to budge. The limbs were locked in place, almost glued to the ground. His eyes widened as the Air Slash sliced into his gut. Blood splattered the ground as Killian's world went dark. A wispy trail of white leaked from his mouth into the sky.[break][break]

Deoxys seized control before Killian's body went slack. As it had done so many nights before, it played puppetmaster to its host. [break][break]

The alien ran - leaving the others to fend for themselves.

Her blood runs cold, her eyes drawn to the wisps that slip from his lips and the way that his body doesn't simply flop over. She's seen this once before, when Chu-e Choi had called out to her that day and she though she doesn't fully understand what might be happening, she knows that what comes next won't be pretty.[break][break]

"THAT'S IT!" Logic no longer inhibits her actions, a hand stuck deep into her pocket as she rips an orb right out. Energy crystallises and swirls around it, clinging desperately to its orbit like an eternal blackhole as she pitches it with all of her might. And the Lake Guardian quickly resonates with her new source of power, the cracks of the red gem on her forehead creeping all over her body as she claps her hands together.[break][break]

When Mesprit begins pulling her hands apart, she creates a pink orb that only grows as she continues to spread her arms. Every bit of annoyance, bitterness, fear that she draws from Eris, every ounce of will that she can bear is steadily shoveled in. And finally, right as Moltres begins to dive right for her, Mesprit screeches, hurling the ball right at the fiery mess and watching as the Tera Blast is swallowed by the flames.[break][break]

Only to explode and rip the apparition to feathery shreds - A temporary silencing of an eternally tormented soul that's already starting to piece itself together once more.[break][break]

But Eris doesn't allow herself to stop here, grabbing onto Reiner's shoulders and hopping on as he begins to chase Killian's body.[break][break]

The other two League members remained busy fending off the Moltres' onslaught of attacks, the Protect barrier causing Mr. Mime's shield to crack under the pressure. Ryuji watched as everyone hunkered down to defend against the incoming Air Slashes sent every which way. He looked on towards the other two people on the other side of them to check in as Ryuji found his attention going to the younger girl first out of habit. Just that part of him going for the more defenseless of the two (presumably). The sassy lost child was faring well, but he turned his head just in time to be greeted by the sight of her other one taking an attack from the Moltres' directly. His body crumbled as the other kid would take charge of the situation.

"Hey, kid. Wait..." Ryuji said before looking at the lake spirit by her as they'd begin summoning a great deal of energy around the both of them and unleashing it against the Moltres's in one blast. The resulting blast was enough to reduce the fiery bird into nothingness. The redhead let out a sigh of relief as his attention turned to their fallen comrade. Except instead of lying on the ground like a proper corpse would, he was...well, moving. It was like something straight from a horror flick, the way his body just moved on its own according, limping and all. The smaller child at least seemed to not really take it too highly as she cahsed after the floating corpse. Not one to let a child wander off alone, even if one that was a bit mouthy, Ryuji took off behind her. "Wait up, kid!" he shouted off, letting out a sharp whistle as Ace tossed him onto his back and gave chase to the corpse and the child.

a spray of blood, arcing red against the pallid sky. oh. he thinks. a documentarian's detachment. how are we going to put all of that back in him?[break][break]

a wisp of white rises from the man's mouth. nagi's eyes dart up to follow it — only to be yanked back down by movement where there should be none. [break][break]

like a puppet jerking on a string: the man sways, and stiffens; muscles seizing where they should have gone slack.[break][break]

and then he is sprinting.[break][break]

a tera blast from the mesprit rips the vestigial moltres into ash and air. the girl chases, hot on the heels of the shambling should-be-corpse, ryuji close behind them. [break][break]

"smaug!"[break][break]

nagi gestures, urgent and wordless. his dragonite yanks him up off his feet by the armpits, shooting into the sky. he needs a better vantage point. he wishes, absently, that he had time to clean the sweat-smudges off his lenses before the fight began.[break][break]

something glows to the north, set against the rock. he squints through the fog. if that's where the body is going —[break][break]

hair whips into his face as smaug's extreme speed closes the distance between them and the man's sprinting body. nagi trusts his dragonite to keep an eye on the people on the ground; he keeps one eye on the seal, and another to sky, to the line of wisps, searching for where he'd seen the man's soul drift.

But just as a rather strange sight pulls up upon the horizon, the Luxray begins to falter, slowing down as he grunts and paws at the ground. Even Mesprit seems to quieten down, growing still as she intently watches the gentle glow up ahead. The air here is dense, her figure oh so tiny compared to the looming mountain. For a moment, she almost hesitates to hop off Reiner's back, debates whether she should get away from here as fast as possible.[break][break]

But she can't abandon Killian and let him simply walk out on them.[break][break]

So she gathers her nerves, steadying herself as she hops onto her own two feet. And as she wanders closer to the glow, Reiner begrudgingly follows behind, hopping a little when he realises the distinct lack of a shadow under their feet.[break][break]

"Keep it together, Reiner." She rests a hand upon his shoulder, clearly unnerved but forcing herself to step closer anyways. From the looks of things... it's a giant broken seal with cracks just about too small for her to fit through.
