Dropping down from the skies, Penelope landed not too far from the elite four member. It was getting easier and easier riding her Charizard up the volcano.

After sliding off from her pokemon's back, she gave her knees and shoulders a quick pat down, wanting to flick away any remaining dust or shit from her clothes. Even up here, it didn't feel right to walk around dirty.

"So, how do we start this?"

the councilwoman's entrance earns a round of applause from the blissey, the normal-type being supportive as ever. it even goes so far as to waddle forward to offer her an egg, though it's likely uncooked.[break][break]

"i take it you're ready."[break][break]

turning to look at the pool of lava that bubbles before them, he raises both his hands, then slams them back down which causes a small wave to rush towards the middle, crashing into rocks.[break][break]

then, the ground shakes, and from the pool emerges the heatran, bigger than any others.[break][break]

it roars.[break][break]

"we'll be supporting you today, so good luck."

The egg was accepted, obviously. Penelope was no monster.

"Yeah, yeah. I'm ready."

With her reaffirmation given, the elite four members wasted no time summoning the pokemon from below the bubbling lava. It growled at them, at her, with a ferocity only befitting that of a legendary beast.

"Wish me luck then."
[break][break]

With a flick of the wrist, she sent forth her Magcargo , a pokemon of similar typing but with an affinity that had been resonating with Penelope as of late. Fire.

"SLUGGER," She called to the pokemon, "earth power!"
[break][break]

With a nod, the pokemon evoked the ground beneath the heatran to rise, looking to force the legendary from it's position of comfort within the pool of magma

the EARTH POWER causes the ground beneath the heatran to rise, lifting out of the pool of lava and into a peculiar spot. but it's quick to strengthen its foundation as multiple STONE EDGES erupt to support it, acting as pillars to keep it afloat and somewhat mobile.[break][break]

there, almost hovering over them, heatran conjures up a MAGMA STORM.[break][break]

"heh. nice."[break][break]

the blissey tosses another egg that cracks beneath the slugma, forming a shield of PROTECT while the MAGMA STORM washes over them.

That was the difference between Matias and Penelope.

While she barely grew to grasp the basic concepts of battle, his instincts were honed and readied at a moment's notice. Had she been here, alone against this heatran, there was no guarantee she'd been able to pull up defenses in time. Alas, Matias had been there for her, and so with his assistance she trudged onward, facing the volcanoic beast.

"Aim for the pillars," she continued to direct her Magcargo, who moved as instructed. Flicking his head to the side, the fire type spewed out a LAVA PLUME out toward the foundational base of the STONE EDGE pillars the heatran was using to uphold himself. The magma acted harsh against the bits of rock and stone, gnawing through it like termites biting its way through wood. All while its foundations began to wobble, Penelope directed her charizard to chime in, using this opportunity of instability to send an array of AIR SLASHES towards it.

the STONE EDGES wobble, quickly melting under the intense heat of the LAVA PLUME. that, along with heatran's hefty weight, is enough for it to begin to crack.[break][break]

still wobbling, heatran is forced to react to the AIR SLASHES. its IRON HEAD glows, deflecting the attacks off to the side to shatter STONE EDGES. with nothing to support it, the heatran falls, sinking back down into the lava with a large splash.[break][break]

strangely enough, the MAGMA STORM continues.[break][break]

"go on, nurse blissey."[break][break]

no PROTECT comes this time. instead, another egg cracks to spill a LIFE DEW across the ground. it does what it can to heal the magcargo and charizard.

Penelope stepped back, allowing the spew of flames to consume her pokemon, not her. The two took it in stride though, their typings doing well to combat against the heat of it's attack.

By not wasting time dodging, they were able to sacrifice a lick of damage for just enough time to fold into the second act of their attacks.

"ROCK SLIDE!"
[Break][Break]
The magcargo roared, and out from either sides of the pool of magma, swarms of rocks began to roll out, looking to drown the HEATRAN further into the pool it swam. If the HEATRAN attempted to escape, it'd not be without facing the SCARY FACE of the nearby Charizard.

ROCK SLIDE brings swarms of rocks to roll out. they barrel through the air before falling down around the heatran, each one with the clear intent to sink it deeper into the lava.[break][break]

though it roars, it allows itself to get submerged. in fact, it sinks on its own even before the final rock lands.[break][break]

then, silence.[break][break]

"battle over?"[break][break]

he chuckles after and takes a step back, knowing what's about to come.[break][break]

suddenly, a powerful SOLAR BEAM shoots out from underneath the lava, easily smashing the rocks as the heatran rises back up again. the SOLAR BEAM continues, now angled down at both the charizard and magcargo.

"Shit!"

The came as surprise for both the pokemon and the trainer stationed behind them. Thanks to the Heatran's REDUCED SPEED from Charizard's SCARY FACE, the roaring dragon was just barely able to evade the pillar of light that was aimed up toward him.

The magcargo, however, wasn't as fortunate. Melded down to the ground, the slug of magma and rock gritted it's teeth as it bared the sheer of the SOLAR BEAM. Had it not been for the move's typing, it might've even finished the job.

"CHARIZARD HELP OUT!"
[Break][break]
maintaining it's position midair, the fire type opened it's jaw once more, spitting forth a blaze of INFERNO down onto the heatran. All the while the magcargo stuck itself into RECOVER mode.

"ouchie."[break][break]

with the magcargo spending the round RECOVERING, it leaves charizard susceptible, more prone to being struck down and overpowered by the heatran. the counter to that is a lonesome nurse blissey that runs across the terrain, quick to come to its aid.[break][break]

it COPYCATS and sends forth another blaze of INFERNO, holding the heatran back to allow enough time for magcargo to RECOVER.[break][break]

heatran's FLASH FIRE renders the combined INFERNO useless. actually, it helps heatran more than it damages. after sucking in the flames, heatran lets loose another MAGMA STORM, this one far stronger, so much so that matias is forced to enact a WALL OF EARTH to protect him and PENELOPE LIVY from it.

After witnessing the heatran consume the torrent of flames like an afternoon's brunch, Penelope realized her devasting mistake. But it was too late. The Magcargo was feeling better, but in exchange for its recovery, the heatran was granted the opportunity to not only spew back out an attack onto it, but Penelope herself.

Thankfully, she still had Matias in her corner. Her unlikely guardian angel.

"Thanks."
[break]
[break]

A tinge of bitterness twisted her plea of gratitude. It was annoying always seeking help, even in moments like this, where him being here was the entire point of the battle. If only she could stand on her own.

"MAGCARGO, EARTH POWER. CHARIZARD AIR SLASH."
[break]
[break]

Again, her commands cut through the smog, sending her fire types into action. First, the Magcargo obeyed, using EARTH POWER this time to create a crater beneath the heatrane, aiming to hurt it through its fall. The charizard's attack only looked to amplify this moment, by striking down on the legendary mid fall, where it held the least chance of being able to accurately dodge.

unlikely guardian angel? he always has her back. always has and likely always will until it proves too inconvenient to. or until she wrongs him which no matter how unlikely is always a possibility.[break][break]

the tinge of bitterness is partially recognized but he can't be too sure. he assumes regardless and chuckles in return.[break][break]

"do you know how FLASH FIRE works?"[break][break]

once more, the heatran's IRON HEAD takes the brunt of the AIR SLASH as it falls into the EARTH POWERED crater. there, it lets loose an EARTHQUAKE powerful enough to shake the foundations of the mountain.

"For the most part."

Penelope wasn't too well versed with pokemon abilities and the intricacies of how they worked. In some cases, like with FLASH FIRE, she could put two and two together. Still...

"But explain it to me."

Maybe there was worth understanding those hidden details. If nothing else, she could pull that much from this battle.

The Heatran's EARTHQUAKE proved powerful, rocking the very foundations of the mountain. Had it not been for Charizard's quick reaction of swooping down to scoop up the MAGCARGO, the Pokémon would've surely suffered. Penelope, on the other hand, had to rely on her unlikely guardian angel's Blissey for aid.
