Andrea was always willing to give her support to the underappreciated minor league, and after hearing that a new Gym had opened not very far from ROSMONTIS LUNE's forest of friends, she made her way to the decently-sized clearing surrounded by verdant nature.

Upon arriving at the bare-bones arena, the dragon-costumed girl cupped her hands around her mouth and hollered. "Hellooooo? We're here to challenge the Gym!"

Suddenly, one of her Pokéballs burst open, revealing a Buzzwole that easily towered over the young woman. Having just heard the word 'gym', the musclebrained mosquito had voluntarily come out of its ball, thinking that this was a place where people came to lift weights and get buff.

"Buzz-Buzz, no! It's not that kind of gym! It's a Pokémon Gym!" Andrea frantically reached for her Pokéballs, trying to quickly hide the giant bug before the Gym leader answered her call. She would have a lot of explaining to do if they found out she was in possession of an Ultra Beast.

A Welcome

Hideo was aware of his challenger's approach the moment she got close; his Pokemon kept an eye out for more than just friendly challengers. He was in the middle of the woods, after all, and even though the League was aware of the place he'd set up, one couldn't be too cautious.

While he hadn't remembered the challenger by name, he did remember her the moment his Pokemon told him she was in a dragon costume. The woman who had accidentally caught herself in his honey trap some time ago. It had been a while ago, so he could only wonder if she remembered him.

"Been waiting for you!" Hideo announced, walking over towards the arena - along with a gaggle of Psychic Pokemon. "When you're ready, you can step into the arena and-"

He heard a Pokeball open up - and immediately, his Pokemon were on guard, huddling around him. It only took a moment for him to be told why: a Buzzwole had come out of her Pokeball. An Ultra Beast.

The girl that got herself caught in a honey trap was in possession of an Ultra Beast.

Hideo let out a sigh. He had to be prepared to battle any Pokemon his challengers brought his way, and if she could tame an Ultra Beast, he'd allow it. "Well…if your Pokemon there wants to battle, then they can battle! It's what you came here for, right? I can promise you the Pokemon I got can give an Ultra Beast a run for its money."

He understood why Uxie had insisted he bring a certain Pokemon for this challenge.

"Anyways, once you've chosen who you'll use, just step into the arena. My Pokemon'll set it up real quick." His Psychic Pokemon looked among each other, each sighing as they dispersed to different corners of the arena, laying down a Psychic Terrain. A light-purple glow covered the arena - not much of a change to the inside.

Hideo had a Pokeball in hand - though he didn't let his Pokemon out just yet. "When you're ready~"

Against all odds, Andrea did remember the little boy who never opened his eyes. He was one of few people to have almost seen her naked (if only she knew), if not for the fact that she always carried around a spare change of clothes in case anything happened to her prized onesie, like say, getting stuck in a honey trap.

In any case, Hideo's arrival caused the young PokéManiac to flinch, her secret exposed. His willingness to accept their challenge regardless deeply perplexed her. "You're not afraid of Ultra Beasts?" She quietly muttered. "Buzz-Buzz is a sweetheart, I assure you, but... I thought people would be terrified of them because of the war." Ultimately, if the Gym leader had allowed it, then so it would be.

With the arena being covered in a purple aura of weirdness, Andrea and her Buzzwole prepared themselves for a fierce 1v1 battle. "Oh, we're ready! Right, Buzz-Buzz?" The gargantuan mosquito buzzed in excitement and flexed its bulging muscles, Bulking Up in preparation of taking down whatever Pokémon the shut-eyed boy would send out.

Hideo chuckled slightly. "Well, if it were a wild Ultra Beast I met on a walk, I'd be a lot more anxious. But it's something you've captured, so it's not something that's gonna go wild." As well as the silent truth that if it did get out of control, there were plenty of other Pokemon around to help reign it in.

But he could hope things didn't go that far.

As Andrea approached, Hideo let his choice out of its ball: a Zeraora. "For something as tough as an Ultra Beast, a Zeraora should be a good match." Would it actually be a good match? He wasn't actually sure how strong they were, only that they were a major threat some years ago.

But they'd find out soon enough.

The moment Andrea and her Buzzwole stepped into the Psychic Terrain, they would find the very environment around them gradually morph into something completely different.

The Battle Begins Among The Stars

They would find themselves standing atop a wooden arena, the morning sky darkening as night seemed to overtake them. A large cloud covered the sky, yet a galaxy of stars could be seen through it, a crescent moon breaking over the clouds. There was a city unmistakably far beneath them, yet the buildings beneath were indistinct apart from the lights shining from them - it didn't seem to be any city they had visited in Hoenn.

"Now then," Hideo said, showing no reaction to the sudden change, "I'd normally offer you the first move as a challenger, but since your Pokemon was already Bulking Up...Zeraora, let's match their power with speed!"

His Zeraora nodded, initially walking towards the Buzzwole before it moved from side to side, gradually speeding up as its Agility went into effect. Once it fully kicked in, the Zeraora leapt towards the Buzzwole, trying to land an (unpowered) punch on the buff bug.

The young woman was awestruck by the change in scenery. A spatial backdrop made a lot of sense for a battle involving an Ultra Beast. She was even more impressed by what Hideo sent out to fight them: Zeraora. Was that the incredibly rare cat Pokémon mentioned in last year's lucky letter raffle? Its movements were lightning-fast. Andrea had a feeling that Josh Devlin would really like this Pokémon.

"Let's match their speed with even more power!" The eccentric trainer exclaimed. Not even bothering to try to outspeed a much faster opponent, Buzz-Buzz deliberately took the punch, tanking the hit thanks to the earlier Bulk Up. The alien bug then attempted to grab Zeraora's paw, holding them in place, while its other hand clenched into a fist, aiming a mean Power-Up Punch straight at the kitty's face.

The Battle Among The Stars

The punch had served as a test, both of the Buzzwole's durability and reaction. Unsurprisingly, the punch didn't even seem to make the Buzzwold budge, and the buff bug was quick to retaliate. The Zeraora pulled its paw back in time to avoid the grab, but it could only raise its arms to block the Power-up Punch aimed for its face, the force of the impact pushing it back a good distance.

Its arms lowered the moment its feet found the ground, Zeraora shaking its arms to shake off the pain. It was enough to gauge that it wasn't a good idea to take a direct hit.

"Can't do have-measures with an Ultra Beast," Hideo noted, a hand over his chin. "Zeraora, get ready for a big strike! Charge up!"

The Zeraora lowered its stance, electricity building up as electricity Charged up within its body. Electricity crackled in its body, and its eyes stayed on its opponent - watching. Waiting.

Zeraora avoided grabbed, blocked the Power-Up Punch.
Still pushed back, still hurt.
Zeraora used Charge

The Power-Up Punch hadn't quite hit the kitty's face, but it had done its job. Now the Buzzwole was feeling pumped and raring to go, their beefy biceps swelling with even more power. It was war of the stat boosts out there!

The brief reprieve while the thundercat charged up its electricity annoyed Buzz-Buzz, who raised their very human-like hand and made a 'come at me bro' gesture towards their crouching opponent.

Despite the arrogant Taunt, the Ultra Beast thought of Zeraora as their equal, urging them to stop stalling so they could get back to their exciting fistfight.

The Zeraora waited for a response from the Buzzwole - and it got one. A grin found its way on the Pokemon's face, the Taunt taking full effect, but doing nothing to change its affect.

Hideo simply nodded. "Good thing we got things ready first! It'd be boring if we just held back the whole time anyways. Zeraora, get in there! Show'em what-"

Before he could finish, his Zeraora charged forth, electricity still crackling from its Charge. Its fists glowed bright-blue as electricity built around them, until that electricity turned into Plasma.

The Zeraora was going straight into melee with the Buzzwole, its Plasma Fists aimed straight for the Buzzwole's face. A bit of revenge for what it had been given moments ago.

"-you can do!"

Zeraora was Taunted

Zeraora uses (Charge-enhanced) Plasma Fists to try and punch the Buzzwole in the face

"Buzz-Buzz, watch out!" Andrea cried out a warning, but the Buzzwole's body was ready. Much like Zeraora had done earlier, the buff Ultra Beast raised their arms to block the incoming Plasma Fists. The alien bug let out a strange sound understood to be laughter, acting like the attack hadn't hurt them at all. However, from the scorch marks on their forearms it was clear that it had done some damage.

The musclebound mosquito quickly went for a counterattack, thrusting a great fist forward to deliver a Superpowered punch straight at the opponent's midsection. The force, should it connect, would be equivalent to being hit by a freight train!

Hideo was momentarily taken aback by that strange sound coming from the Buzzwole. He didn't know what kind of sound Buzzwoles were supposed to make when hit with an attack, but that wasn't it.

The attack didn't seem to make it budge much either. The scorch marks his Pokemon informed him about was at least something, but this just showed him how tough Ultra Beasts could be.

The Zeraora was no less eager to continue the fight, even as it saw the attack coming for it. It did manage to get its arms in the way to block the attack, but that didn't do very much to stop that freight-train of an attack. Spit flew from its mouth as it struck, yet the expression on its face was that of joy - it was enjoying this battle.

And it wasn't out of the fight yet. Its were still crackling from the previous Plasma Fists, and it was going to take another shot at the Buzzwole. This time, however, it'd go for the Buzzwole's sides, aiming Power-Up Punches at the buff bug while trying to outspeed its retaliations.

The Power-Up Punches bounced against Buzzwole's juicy abs, doing virtually no damage, at least not nearly as much as the Plasma Fists had done. "It's not very effective!" Andrea boasted with a smirk. She couldn't help being proud of her big, resilient bug.

Turning to the side, the extraterrestrial insect targeted Zeraora with another Superpower, swinging their massive arm towards the thundercat.

Those Power-Up Punches might not have done much damage on their own, but they were just a prelude for what was to come, the Zeraora only gaining momentum with each not-very-effective strike.

When another Superpower came at it, the Zeraora was ready, ducking under the strike. The Buzzwole's massive arm would brush against the Zeraora's hair, and the impact of the attack could be felt in the air, but the Zeraora was otherwise safe.

The Zeraora wouldn't let the opportunity go to waste: its fists were still crackling with electricity, and it was once more swinging with its Plasma Fists, using its speed to its advantage to try and get hits in around the Buzzwole.

The low rumble of thunder could be heard, small flashes of lighting breaking from the dark clouds above them (the Pokemon maintaining the illusory background aiming to make the moment dramatic).

Zeraora avoided the Superpower

Zeraora uses Plasma Fists, attacking the Buzzwole from all sides using its speed

Lighting is coming from the clouds (no mechanical effect - just looks cool)

Zeraora? More like ZeraORA-ORA-ORA-ORA-ORA!!

Overwhelmed by the opponent's unmatched speed, Buzz-Buzz was assailed by a seemingly endless flurry of electrified punches. "Get out of its range, Buzz-Buzz!" Andrea cried out. The Buzzwole applied pressure to their four arthropod legs in order to jump high above Zeraora's head.

As the alien bug hovered in midair, a flash of lightning briefly illuminated their burly figure, which had been battered badly by the Plasma Fists. They descended upon the grounded thundercat, aiming another Superpowered punch at its head. Was it repetitive? Yes, but it demonstrably worked most of the time.

The Battle Among The Stars

The Flurry of Plasma-enhanced Punches seemed to make progress - but the Buzzwole seemed to be far from done.

The Zeraora watched as the Buzzwole jumped up in the air, and was more than ready to meet it head on. While the smart thing to do would be to just attack from a range with Discharge, Hideo's Pokemon was a bit more eager to get up and personal thanks to that Taunt from before.

Electricity built up around the Zeraora once more - this time surrounding its entire body. As the energy ran through it, it leapt up to meet the Buzzwole in one more attack.

It would take that Superpower - the electric-type passing out from the strike, and would hit the ground shortly afterwards, but just how would the Buzzwole take its final Wild Charge?

Is hit by Superpower and KO'd - but its attack is still going on.
