They let out a contemplative hum as their hand curls in his and they follow. “I suppose so..” But Fern had noticed him, hadn’t they? Granted, it was in the sort of mundane situations that they were referring to now.[break][break]

So perhaps they weren’t as off the mark as they’d thought.[break][break]

When the question is turned back on them, they consider. Their brows furrow together. “Sometimes. Usually it’s just daydreaming, though.” A fanciful what if. To be truly honest would be to acknowledge the fact that Fern flourished under attention, and it was entirely likely that they wouldn’t be able to wrap their head around a concept like intentional monotony.[break][break]

So they laugh as they look up at him. “I might be just a bit too loud for that.”[break][break]

Fern had noticed, and it had been a surprise then as much as it was now. It was partially why Jayden had half-expected them to not show.

[break][break] Confusion lights up in the Admin's eyes as they explain it to him. Daydreams. That too seemed like a fanatical concept — he had never once considered his dreams, either in the present or the past.

[break][break] "You're not loud," he said, lips twisted into a frown. Gently, he affectionately reaches over to cup their cheek, before pulling back. They'd reached the booth.

[break][break] "Here - three rounds please," he says, handing over cash.

[break][break] The booth was adorned with an array of vibrant balloons, each one seemingly daring him to take a shot. On the side was a list of various prizes, and his head cocks towards fern delaney as he holds the darts in his hands.

“You don’t think I’m loud?” Fern laughs, “you’re one of the few.”[break][break]

His hand pulls away, and their head tilts as they observe him silently. They don’t mind the affection, whether they’ve reached the booth or not. They wait until he’s purchased a round of darts.[break][break]

When the assistant running the booth turns to gather the requested darts, Fern lets their hand find Jayden’s face. Leaning up, they press a short lived and chaste, but no less tender kiss against his lips.[break][break]

They linger close, just for a moment. Smiling before they rock back on their heels. “Shall we indulge in a daydream, then? Just for a little while?”[break][break]

Turning back toward the wall of prizes. Their hand settles under their chin as they seriously deliberate their options. “The dreepy in the corner…” A plush, very soft looking dreepy at that.

fern delaney could have shouted the top of his lungs, could have been the proprietor of ruckus and chaos, and yet Jayden would still think him the most lovely thing he'd ever set eyes upon, smitten as he was. Even if he didn't say as much, it would have been obvious to all who looked at him, from the sweet way that he regarded them to the gentle touch he placed upon their cheek.

[break][break] The kiss was well-received, as polite and chaste as it was, and Jayden eyes darken if only so briefly.

[break][break] "Just for a little while," he agrees, voiced lowered into a husky murmur.

[break][break] It's only when Fern pulls back that Jayden eventually does, turning to the Dreepy that they point out. Soft and fluffy, just like Fern.

[break][break] "Okay. I will get it for you."

[break][break] With a poised arm, he knocks back his arm and tosses the darts with an expert hand. Pop. Pop! Two of them are effortlessly disposed, and it is only the third that remains. He aims and then tosses — but rather than popping the stretchable latex, it lands just south of it.

[break][break] Jayden frowns, bottom lip jutting out in what some would say is a pout. (But of course, that couldn't be Jayden.)

[break][break] "The darts are broken."

[break][break] Because of course, he could not have missed at a game as simple as this.

“Good. I’m glad we agree.” Fern murmurs it against his lips, eyes still half-lidded as they linger close for a beat longer. His agreement shivers through them, settling warmly in their chest. Happy and content.[break][break]

“I’m counting on it,” they tease in response, though they don’t really mind whether or not he actually succeeds in winning the prize. It is enough that they are here. Together.[break][break]

It’s exciting to watch and cheer him on, though, as one by one he pops the balloons in rapid succession. For all of Fern’s bluffing, Jayden is, in fact, much better at this than they would be. At least until the last throw. The dart lands just below the balloon, and Fern snaps their fingers in a drats! sort of gesture.[break][break]

When they turn toward the other, they’re not expecting the expression that softens his face. Their brow lifts slowly, and their eyes narrow in playful scrutiny as they lean up to inspect him closely. A wheedling tone of amusement fills their voice as a smile pulls at their mouth.[break][break]

“jayden cross, are you pouting..?”[break][break]

The blunted statement draws a bark of laughter. “Of course they’re broken. Of course.”

'Pouting..?'

[break][break] "No. Of course not." His response is swift, and yet the expression on his face remains. Frustration builds almost comically as Jayden glares at the balloons and then at the stall attendant. Being on the receiving end of such a glare must be startling, because even as burly as the man was, he takes a cautious step back.

[break][break] Looking sideways at fern delaney, Jayden declares: "I will try again."

[break][break] He steps forward and away from them, handing over a set of crumpled bills. Before stepping away, he looks deeply at the attendant until they cautiously shuffle backwards again.

[break][break] Taking position, Jayden is posed again — once, twice, the balloons snap easily to the darts. This is just as simple as any training regimen he would partake in. Or at least, that's what he reminds himself. Missing a target would not have suited Dmitri, and so it will not suit Fern either.

[break][break] Jayden won't allow it.

[break][break] This last throw he takes a couple of more minutes, before he squints. Then aims. Finally, the third dart goes souring against the plastic, popping effectively, and it seems that the attendant is more relieved than Jayden himself, with the way he quickly shuffles the Dreepy into the man's arms.

[break][break] The Rocket Admin takes the Dreepy and presents it, a little proudly, to them.

[break][break] "Perhaps they weren't broken, after all."

[break][break] Maybe even a little smug.
