each time a new threat looms over them, she swears the entire atmosphere in headquarters changes. it's unnerving, in a way.

and for as much as she longs to say yes to penny's question, it would be a lie.

"no, i'm afraid not."

her smile falters slightly, sadder in the way it curls into her cheeks.

"i don't believe we'll ever see a time of peace. not in our lifetime, anyway."

a beat passes between them. she looks to overwrite it quickly with the same question.

really, it's not...

she just doesn't believe it's quite possible. regardless of their own wishes, their own desires, fate will always have other plans.

"hope is a great thing to have, but too much can suffocate you sometimes when things don't work out the way we want."

in the end, they're all just pieces on a chessboard for a bigger picture. their moves are calculated, precise, but human follies will always cause chaos amongst the checkered platform.

perhaps if it's a big enough move, they could even overturn the board with sheer hope and willpower alone... what a nice thought.

the electrician begins to lead them out and she follows quietly, taking the opportunity to glance over her shoulder one last time before they leave this place behind.

"i have a feeling we'll find something worthy."
