Vanilla mulled to herself, listening to Angelo and Proxii again while taking their advice to heart. It was a somewhat mutually agreed upon point that her perfectionist nature was a hurdle in terms of her development. SHe took a moment for herself, crossing her arms with a troubled expression before looking over to where Angelo had motioned to. Lottie had been eyeing the bag with the remaining cakes inside of it with golden hues of hunger. Despite not speaking much, Vanilla felt a tad more in tune with her. Maybe it was just not speaking all that much? She smiled and gently placed the bag into the hands of Lottie with a pleased smile. Even Angelo offered to return the favor and have her sample some of his cooking while giving feedback. The aspect of which seemed to improve her mood once more.

She reached up to yank Proxii out of the air again and cover her face. Proxii's screen would mimic a simplified face as she spoke again. "Ah-I would enjoy that. You can have the r-rest of the cakes." Vanilla said, Proxii's screen monitor mimicked her mouth movements as the girl would smile up at Angelo behind the phone and keyboard covering her face. "W-We'd be happy to help with anything else you may need. E-Even outside of the kitchen. We're searching for something to h-help train until we can join the League..."

“Oh, thanks. That's very generous of you, right, Lottie?”

Latias in response to being handed the rest of the eccles cakes, hops up and down on her sneaker toes in excitement. Before effortlessly jumping up onto the railings to 'sit' and pick through the pastries that had been offered to her.

“We'll have to take that as a 'yes',” he shrugs, turning back to Vanilla with a casual shrug.

Not like Angelo could pry out a verbal 'thank you' from the legendary, even if he tried.

It had been some time since he'd come across someone quite so shy. Enough so that she apparently relied on sign language and Rotom phone to talk in her stead. Yet here she was, stuttering and attempting to hold a conversation with him...

He'd initially been prepared to wrap this up but the teenager presses on. And Angelo had always had a soft spot for kids.

“I don't think I have anything I need a hand with right now, but I'll keep that in mind.” Comes out a chuckle, never one to fully forget an offer of opportunity. “If you need someone to help you with training, I believe I promised you a cake sample. We could have a battle then, if you're up for it.”

An eyebrow raises quizzically then. “You want to join the League?”

Lottie, at the very least, showed her appreciation for the gift of the rest of the eccles cakes that were given to her. She was still so quiet but it wasn't like Vanilla was going to start demanding she speak as well. Angelo didn't really need any help with anything now, but at least he was offering help with their training! It might help in the long run, at least!

"Training would help us a lot!...But all this talk about food is making me hungry." Proxii said aloud, budging against the girl while she laughed softly to herself. As the conversation was rolling down to a close, Vanilla was hoping to part ways with Angelo and just pass of her little dream to him in a passing statement, though it came as a bit of a surprise when he'd suddenly take interest in her reason for wanting to join the League. Once again, Vanilla hid her face and turned away. She debated on whether or not they should be real and give the reasoning for why they sought to join up. Aneglo had been nothing but honest and helpful to the both of them, so maybe he could help.

"I'm searching for my d-dad. He left home on League business when I was younger to Hoenn and he never returned back. So I want to join to try and find him..."

Sun-warmed steel meets him as Angelo leans back against the railing. “Tomorrow then. I'll bring cake, you bring your team.”

He'd have to give her a time and location to meet up for their battle but for now, Vanilla is met with two pairs of eyes, observing her as she shares.

Ocean blue betrays not the misgivings for this teenager's line of thought, kept behind the steel bars of his teeth.

She wasn't going to find her father that way.

“Signing up to find your dad, huh? That's a noble motivation,” he smiles kindly, criticisms but smoke on the back of his tongue. “But couldn't you search for him without signing up to the military or rangers? I'm sure there's some detective agencies that could take on your case.”

Would they even take on a kid her age, even?

It was a pretty fair question that proved to be a noticeable wall in her life of thinking. Vanilla did have to ask herself if it was what she wanted, only reminded about the reason she left Galar in the first place. "Ah-I could, buh-but I don't know where else to start…At least by joining, I can at least find his friends and start asking them." she replied in turn, sounding a bit less certain of her abilities in decision making. Vanilla turned a little bit near halfway to face the man and Lottie again. "I don't know any agencies or detectives around, a-and I don't really have any money to pay them…" The teen murmured something else to herself as her confidence had all but dried up again, saying her last words on the matter.

"Ah-I just want my dad back…"

Her hands let go of Proxii as she looked back to the sea, fumbling around with what to say. The soft eyes resting behind her glasses held their fair amount of anxiety within while Vanilla just looked away. The Rotom phone buzzed around to pick up where she left off. "We figured that if we could get her to be a Pokemon Master or a Chef, then we could get noticed by the League and join to find him."

And some part of him, no matter how buried or pushed aside, creaks like she'd just stomped on a weakened jetty plank.

Vanilla was just a kid searching for a precious part of her, gone missing. Suddenly she looks quite small.

“Not like I want to sway your dreams, kiddo. But there are ways to get the League to notice you without signing up to the military,” his arms fold loosely over his chest and although Angelo maintains a voice of steady reasoning, his eyes soften a faction. “You're onto something with training. Thought about competing in the gym challenge?”

In this region filled with factional warfare, challenging the gyms in a safe environment could be a good starting place for a young teen.

Vanilla remained quiet as Angelo would respond in kind after he had chimed in about her plan. Surely it was pretty rough all things considered, but it was a work in progress! She frowned, stuck in her own thoughts as Proxii floated around to check up on her. The teenager exhaled in frustration again, leaving her to be a bit more vulnerable than before, now that she had let loose the reason she came to Hoenn in the first place. Her attention did pique when Angelo had mentioned something about the gym challenges. Both Vanilla and Proxii eyed one another for a moment before looking back over to Angelo. "The Gym Challenge? What's that?" Proxii asked for the two of them, buzzing about in confusion. "We know of the way the gym circuit goes usually, but does Hoenn have some sort weird way for getting gym battles?"

Vanilla still looks like a wilting Sunflora.

She would find little buckle within Angelo's resolve, however. He wouldn't feel the sour taste of guilt for deterring a child from military service.

Her Rotom speaks in her place once more, questioning the Hoenn gym challenge that he had suggested.

The League, Angelo thinks, should give him a scouting tip.

“It's the usual song and dance,” he plucks a strand of gold hair from his jacket sleeve, letting it loose to the wind. “But they took some pieces from the Paldea system recently. There's a new champion rank that multiple trainers can hold now, if they win.”

Angelo offers her a shrug, an idea to contemplate. “Could be a way for the League to notice you an' get your name out there, if your dad is listening.”

How exciting! So by doing this gym challenge, it would be a way to spread their face across Hoenn. It was a small step, but a step regardless. Vanilla mused her thoughts together, thinking of something inside of her pink noggin while Angelo would give a brief on what it entailed. So just a normal gym challenge that has some aspects of it like Paldea's system. "That's pretty interesting. Paldea, huh...I wonder if they have good food there." Proxii said before then Vanilla's sudden wilting would give room to a more determined expression. She puffed her chest up and smiled at the ship captain in front of her. "Looks like somebody's made up their mind about something!" The Rotom possessed phone chirped, swiveling back up at Angelo.

"So we bust down all the gyms and become a Pokemon Master. Sounds easy enough. We just have to go and train up a team then win. Totally doable!" The two were ready and rearing to go as they looked on in silence. After a beat or two, Vanilla's brows furrowed in confusion. Was this how most trainers got their start? Once again, she pulled Proxi down to cover her face.

"U-Uh, how should we train? And wh-what about teams? There's so many Pokemon...How do we know which are good for battles?..."

This Rotom's head was in the right place, perhaps Paldea should be next on his list of vacation locations. Angelo cracks a bubble of laughter. “You an' me both.”

When a determined expression brightens across Vanilla's features, Latias enthusiastically claps. It's short-lived when she realised the bag of eccles cakes in her hands could not be saved by psychic powers in public.

Angelo returns the teenage baker's smile. Mostly just pleased he'd steered her mind off military service.

It may have worked for John Sullivan , but he'd been forged from different stuff. Kantonian mettle.

Angelo quirks an eyebrow in amusement as Vanilla begins to nervously (and he thinks excitedly) chatter a million questions.

“Okay. Okay. How about this?” He raises a hand to signal her to slow down.

“Bring what pokémon you've got for that training session of ours and we can start answering your questions from there.” He had already offered, after all. “You free tomorrow? You a'int got school, right?”

It was a scary and hard world out in Hoenn, and Vanilla knew that very well. Still, nothing would stop her from finding her father. Even if it would require her to communicate outside of her Pokémon phone. She was pretty clueless all things considered, being a chef that had been drawn into this grand world in search of what was most precious to her. Still, Angelo's words did stoke a fire underneath her. The next long term goal was clear as day but the road to that goal was still as far as ever. Thankfully, the boat captain was ready to offer some guidance and an offer to help her train.

"You'd really do that?" Proxii asked Angelo, elated at the offer made to the both of them. Vanilla did have a couple of Pokemon she had caught over the past few excursions that would likely do well in battle against another person. She nodded her head in agreement to the boat captain, happy to receive help from him. "We should be free. Class isn't for another day or so. I'll try and bring some more cakes for Lottie." she said, looking at the bag of smashed cakes by her feet. "U-Um, thanks for the help."

An eyebrow hooks up, amused. “I offered earlier, remember? Is your memory full?”

Since Nautica - since his skirmish with Rocket at the base of Meteor Falls - he'd been taking more time to practice with his pokémon.

Business in the water routes had become increasingly hostile and threats weaved unseen through the streets, now more than ever.

Incorporating another person into a one-off training session wasn't going to hurt. Besides. He got cake out of it.

“Tomorrow, then. There's a park near here with a battlefield, we can use that.” Angelo pushes off from the railing, bending down to pick up the bag of cakes. They're a little crumbly but fine.

“And thanks for the cakes.” He returns.

“Speaking of. I should get back to shopping before it's all picked clean. They're like Wingull out there.” A hand is held out towards Vanilla as Latias hops down onto the ground beside him. “See you in the morning, kiddo. We're starting bright an' early.”
