THE ULTRA CRATER IS A LARGE EXPANSE UNDERNEATH A YELLOW SKY. In between thick, almost impassable jungles, craters filled with green fields and alien plants lay. What appears to be metal pipe-like roots grow out the rock of crater walls. Geysers dot this alien landscape, occasionally expelling shrieking steam.[break][break]

The world is frequented by earthquakes, causing odd red monoliths of rock to quake throughout the realm. Oddly, the Ultra Thicket possesses very fertile soil. In the distance, a large mountainous expanse can be seen, though the range does not seem too high.

Okay so she was hoping to find something at the very least useful for her husband’s research but—she wasn’t expecting to tumble out into a completely alien, different reality entirely!

Was this…was this like the time he mentioned that before Mount Chimney blew its shit some time ago they’d somehow ended up in ‘another’ Hoenn? Was it something like that?! Either way…

She pinched the bridge of her nose before realizing they couldn’t just be standing around!

“Goes without saying to keep your eyes and ears peeled for—” she began before the low, distant rumbling started. They—they weren’t out in an open field, were they?

It was consistent, at first, at least until—

A massive shadow engulfed most of the entire place where she was standing and she thought to turn around and look and saw that there was—

A completely massive pair of pincers snapping the air overhead, ominous crackling from its burnished form literally making its entire body shimmer.

Oh, hell—

“Don’t tell me we’re in some kind of Jackass like reality show! RUN!” she yelled, realizing that there was a kaiju-sized Durant approaching them and fast, mandibles clicking menacingly and easily snapping off treetops in half.

This was exhausting.

Were they ever going to get a break? Kieran was all for adventure, but the day had started rough and it didn't seem to be calming down. He didn't think that he would actually grow to regret coming out on this trip, but he did. Things were already strained with Calla. He'd already made the worst first impression with her... boyfriend??? He didn't know, Calla didn't exactly ever explain it to him.

In truth he was just wanting to retreat back home and go to sleep in the mountain of pillows and blankets that made up his bed. Instead, Grunt the Tyrantrum continued to plow onward behind them, frantically trying to outpace the angry durant.

Somehow, she's back within this wild area and it's barely been minutes before they're assailed by some new creature. Well not really minutes, but it feels like minutes. "Are they supposed to be that big?" Calla yells back over her shoulder as she looks at the giant durant thundering after them.[break][break]

At least her meganium is better able to keep up with the rest of the group than her abomasnow had been able to in their previous encounter. Her arms wrap around his long neck as she hangs on for dear life.[break][break]

It's all kind of aimless, isn't it? Are they even actually headed anywhere specific, or are they just about to see where they land? That feels more likely, which clashes against her routine need for order.

“No idea, but I can definitely tell you that shit ain’t normal!”

She was going far too slow for her liking—what with the rain of ruined and shredded treetops raining down all around them, she really had nothing else to it so she pulled out a battered, scuffed Friend Ball and out popped her Braviary from the burst of red light, a loud squawk of alarm as he emerged amidst the rain of the debris.

“Yeah, Sora, GO!” she hollered as she literally threw herself on the Braviary’s back, and hung on for ~~dear~~ deer life as the avian Pokémon took to the skies, but staying low and flying as well out of range as possible from those snapping mandibles—

The Durant let out an angry screeching, skittering noise, like it was attempting to call a swarm of its own kind to their current location a few moments afterward.

“Go, go, go!” she yelled as she flattened herself on the back of said Braviary as they slashed through the jungle growth.

Where were they heading, she had no idea—however the idea of putting as much space between themselves and this damned-ass kaiju-sized bug as possible was the current objective!

much to his surprise, they're able to make their way out of danger, disappearing deeper into the jungle where they can continue their exploration.[break][break]

he laughs as he looks around at the rest of the team to make sure they're okay. naturally, he gravitates towards calla roth out of the three, drifting by her side.[break][break]

All he could do right then was longingly wish for his bed, imagining the soft pillows and smooth blanket. He got cranky when he was tired, but he was supposed to be the positive one. He always was, even if this time it had gotten away from him. His irritation for his sister's overprotectiveness had cost him the only good thing about him that he could think about. Leaving him sour and tired and completely unenthralled by the wilderness, which wasn't at all like him.

Still he forced himself to relax, to take in the breath of fresh air having managed to get away from another danger. This wasn't how he'd envisioned the day going, but he was stuck with it. No use in trying to fight against it anymore. Without a word, he slipped off of the his Tyrantrum and moved to the edge of— "Oh... a crater. Wow, that's cool!" Heights was not one of his fears so he had no problem staring down into the icecream scoop taken out of the earth.

Crisis averted. Maybe, hopefully. How they managed to outpace that giant Durant, she doesn’t know.[break][break]

But she’s not about to question it, either.[break][break]

“Yeah, all good here,” she agrees with her brother, though the heat also irritates her just the same. Even less fond of warm overly weather than he is. And something about this place, both times that they’ve visited, has been ridiculously and unseasonably warm.[break][break]

Regardless, she slips off of the back of her meganium and gravitates toward Uriah. Just the same as he does. Her hand lifts to rest on his arm. “Are you?” she returns, before shortly being distracted by Kieran Roth’s exclamation.[break][break]

“Woah,” she steps closer to the edge of the massive crater in the earth. Teeters when some of the rocky soil slips under her feet. “Careful Kier, the ground seems kinda crumbly in spots.” Last thing they need is either of them tumbling down into the expansive hole and breaking a leg or something.[break][break]

Squinting, she notices something down in the basin of the crater. She turns back toward the group. “Is that a message down there?”

Thankfully, her Braviary doesn’t outpace everyone else, and they all eventually touch down at some sort of crater—and boy, is this crater big.

It doesn’t take too long for her to squint down in the same direction as one of their companions and noticed that there was indeed something inscribed? Written? Some distance down in said crater.

“Who else can stand guard out here with me for anything crazy that might come chasing us out of the jungle? Two of us can go down and check what’s down there,” she gestured, pointing downward into the crater proper.

Since she was the one airborne—

“Two guards keep watch, two go down into the crater and check? I can keep an eye out from up here if anything’s coming. Got to have more than one set of eyes on guard in case we get jumped,” she added from her airborne perch.

he still feels out of his element but that isn't his fault. they are in an entirely different universe, after all, one with giant pokemon trying to kill them.[break][break]

Kieran knew Calla better than anyone and he also knew he was about to get sidelined for his "own good". Maybe it was plausible, considering he was walking-talking bad luck. He was still under the full assumption that everything that had happened up to that point was his fault, and more so the fault of his issues with luck and circumstance. Bad things happened around him, simple as that.

She has to bite her tongue on the immediate urge to dart after Kieran for scrambling down the side of the crater without much forethought. It goes against the grain of her instincts to helicopter around him, but that’s soured things too much lately, hasn’t it? So she dials it back—or tries to, because there’s still a frown on her face for a beat longer. She pulls it into a smile by the time she looks back up at Uriah.[break][break]

“You go ahead, okay?” She gives his back a light pat and steps away from the edge. “Go see what’s down there. I’ll stay up here with Izumi.”[break][break]

Even from here, she can make out the message if she concentrates on it. Asking for a…seaborne shell? She hasn’t the foggiest what that might mean, so she looks up to where Izumi is perched on her braviary. “What do you make of that?” Asked, of course, as she points down at the bamboo stalk letters. While she waited up in the skies on her Braviary, she thought she heard scrambling noises going down toward the caldera in the center of the crater, before—

Wait a second, why were both of the ladies on lookout duty?

She then turned to look down at the crater proper and saw the lettering that clearly said ‘a seaborne shell’, before hearing Calla’s voice ask her about what it meant.

“To be honest, I’ve been trying to rack my brains trying to figure out what the hell that is, although my best guess is… either a Shellder, a Cloyster or a normal Slowbro? Those are the three I can immediately think of that have actual shells… like clams. Or maybe it can also mean Clamperl shells?”

It was confusing, really. She was going by context clues—the best ones she could conjure up if going by typing and by what the clue was supposed to mean.

Izumi tries to make heads and/or tails of the ‘seaborne shell’ clue.
