For some reason she didn't quite understand, Penelope doesn't stop him. She let his touch linger, drawing upwards to the curves of her neck, finding its place settled along the side of her cheek. Where HATRED drips, rotting away, new seeds of emotion sprout, taking its place.

Penelope couldn't quite place this unfurling feeling, but its roots proved strong enough to soften her features and lightly part her lips.

"Okay," she heard herself say. For once, her voice rang softly, transforming into a secret shared among prisoners of the same lurking curse.

At first, when he referred to the way their paths felt tangled, she scoffed it off, wishing nothing more than to release herself from the path she had found. But now, despite her better judgement, which howled at her to reconsider, she felt grateful.
