The building finally grew in detail. It was the same spirit-infested inn as before -- the one they'd explored with noah faber, kyle lopez, and angelo vestri the week prior. Though what laid behind those dilapidated doors was the least of Penelope's concerns, as yet again, Matias' words inflicted a straight shot through her mind.

Heels digging into the dirt, she turned to face him, fingers finding his chin with precision. In one swoop, she tilted his head down and propped herself up. Their lips were brought together in a fleeting moment of ecstasy.

Matias the monster. The brutish man from kanto with a record of destroying all attempts at reconciliation. Empowered by the hatred he draws onto himself, he was the very last person a politician wanted to be tied to.

She called out to him, her voice a dried leaf, rattling in my throat.

But it was too late. He was gone, blowing through as vicious as the howling wind. It was there, where she was left alone, that Penelope first truly felt her heart lurch forward, a pang of regret jabbing at her inside.

There was no other option left for her. She had to follow him inside.

Pushing past the wooden double doors, Penelope was greeted with the familiar coziness of the warm wooden interiors. The dusclops were still there, fiddling with the emptied tankards. She offered him a wave.

nothing has changed in the inn, at least nothing he could tell. the dusclops remain where it stood last time, seemingly stuck behind the bar having to serve wary travelers from distant lands.[break][break]

he regards it with a curt nod before gesturing for the tankard. it does nothing for him but act as a prop. a distraction.[break][break]

when she catches up to him, he ignores her for now, walking over to the bar where he expects her to join him.[break][break]
