"how has work with the aqua initiative been? are you finding your bearings?"

There is a slight pondering as to why the change of pokemon to help be her assistant. Though he has to remind himself that not all are like him who only have the one pokemon needed, or in his case actually registered as an ESP. He gives a nod and takes a seat across the older woman, Salem seeming to swoon on his shoulder as he takes in the sweet aroma of the room thanks to the Bayleef. [break][break]

"Its been fine, I have explored the wilds mostly while working with it, as the only major thing that had happened since my hiring has been the Meteor, which I suppose went alright?" They weren't dead after all.

"if major incidents were constant, then they wouldn't be major at all. it's all of the little things that matter in the end." [break][break]

the commissioner pats her bayleef's head softly. even the insignificant weight of her palm expresses scent from the pokemon's leaves.[break][break]

"what would you say your strengths are, razz?"

Razz just gives her a nod to acknowledge what she says make sense enough. Though at the question he seems confused, and almost already to list several things that he felt he was bad at as point out the good about themselves? Only people with self-confidence were capable of that, and Razz was filled too much of self-loathing. "Uhh- hey!" [break][break]

Before Razz could get a word out Salem to lightly slap the young ranger to stop him in his tracks. Razz gives him a look attempting to try again but once again Salem gives a light slap before jumping from his shoulder and to the table. The cat crosses his arms as he seems to expect an answer as well before Razz sighs, "Umm I have a pretty decent memory? Helps with knowing all the rules and regulations, I have decent organization skills, and I am a dedicated worker," he attempts some attempts at speaking good about himself for once. [break][break]

dahlia plucks her hand from the bayleef's head. she rests it upon her lap as she relaxes into her chair, for the answer razz gives comes with little fuss. little self sabotage.[break][break]

"good." the commissioner says. "i can see those skills being put to good work in slateport. now... what have you done to receive the respect of slateport's rangers?"[break][break]

she grins. her shoulders remain soft; the commissioner takes care not to create sharp angle or shape with her posture.[break][break]

"no need to be humble."

A brow raises about his abilities being useful for Slateport, not that anyone could really tell with the way his bandana covered them up, but the notion was there. Either way he just listens as she goes on with her questioning. Razz not sure why, but he didn't really sense any sort of malice intent with such questions so he thinks about it for a moment. A small stare at Salem who just smiles as the cat now seems to make it clear that he won't allow any self-berating as he was used to. [break][break]

"Uhhh I've been working with them a bit more even with my work with Silph, Tam's more family routine of things had forced me to learn more uhh..." he had to pause as he thinks of the word, "OH social norms! There we go uhhh so had done some Team Building exercises with them such as their Secret Santa and such." [break][break]

Sure he wasn't the best with them still, but he was learning.

although razz's affiliation with silph co. would undoubtedly complicate things, there is no seat in the league that is untouched by contention and challenge.[break][break]

the commissioner eyes salem as if to prepare the pokemon for the next inquiry too. [break][break]

"how do you see yourself as a leader, razz?"

The young man still doesn't understand where this line of questioning was going, but as Salem wasn't warning him about anything, nor did he sense any malice on his own he kept along with it. Frowning lightly at the question as he seemed unsure about the idea of 'leadership.'[break][break]

"I don't?" he looks to Salem before to Dalhia, "Like I think I'm okay with my pokemon, but sometimes with people I struggle as people don't really get me," he could already think of several rangers who didn't trust him, "Was always sort of a follower growing up too, but uhhh there have been a few times I guess where others just weren't around or couldn't adjust so I just sort of stepped up and took lead on things? As to whether or not things worked out was..." he shrugs, "Up in the air?"

the commissioner sighs. some disappointment lingers at the end of her breath like tea leaf fragments at the bottom of a cup.[break][break]

"so you've stepped up before!" dahlia rebounds with encouragement. "you've made decisions regardless of what people thought of you because no one else would."[break][break]

she smiles, sympathy rounding her cheeks.[break][break]

"you're an avatar, razz. reshiram believes in you, yes? you can honor that bond by believing in yourself too."

"Uhh a couple times yes? I guess?" Salem seem to try and encourage some examples and he tries to think, "Uhhh tam and I went undercover before and I had to be the anchor as I think he may have given us away otherwise... uhhhh.... I have lead multiple missions that helped uncover Black Market shops," sure one of them ended in failure in Dewford with the warehouse ending up on fire but he would leave out that detail. He flushes some at the idea of being the Avatar of Reshiram having learned a bit more on some stories that haven been spoken about them of so called 'past sightings and partnerships.' "I have read once that Reshiram test the strength of heart and 'decides that person is a hero' or not kind of silly really," he lets her in on myths that he's read. [break][break]

"I'm not sure if I really fit the bill for that but..." he takes a deep breath before looking at her with a bit more confidence in his singular eye, "But I do what I can to try"

"those myths may very well be real, razz. after all there is little we can call normal nowadays." dahlia says. [break][break]

she sees the confidence build within razz. slowly but surely, the mortar joints between kingsman brick repair and smooth. at least, from her vantage.[break][break]

"if reshiram chose you, then it must be so." the commissioner says. "and so do I choose you... to fill a vacancy in the head ranger seats."

He can't help but be silent about that. Even Salem goes to staring at his trainer to staring at the commissioner, more in shock at the offer rather than doubt in his trainer. Though the younger man is shocked by both. While he believes he can get the job done he isn't as sure about about taking up leadership. Especially at his age, though it wasn't like annalise henderson was much older than him. [break][break]

He couldn't even ask why because she basically told him why, well partly why with Reshiram. "Is it just because of Reshiram?" he can't help but question though he hopes she understood what was behind that question. He knows he once had this worry with FERNANDO SILPH about this being hired only because the legend, and if so for him that didn't seem like a good fit. [break][break]

Or maybe it was a control thing as he was technically a part of AQUA as well.

briefly, the commissioner looks crestfallen at razz's response. she shakes her head quickly like a wand dispelling a curse.[break][break]

"no. but do you think so?" the commissioner asks. "what i meant was that reshiram saw something in you just like i do."[break][break]

she peers over at the large, tall window in her office. the curtains are pulled to its sides. hoenn's golden sunlight pours in, pooling like the train of a dress.[break][break]

"hoenn is in danger, razz. we need men with integrity like you."
