behind her, a gengar grinned in her shadow. spectrier and time in mt. pyre had all but rid her of her fear of ghosts, and this one she found the least unpleasant since acquiring several for her studies. it was destined to be more than just a lab rat, however.[break][break]

”we’re training today,” she informed it, eyes peeled for potential opponents.[break][break]

Sylvia had been walking through the fog when she had been searching for more Pokémon to play with or capture for her own party. Her wanderlust had taken her into some wild directions, but this was totally new! She was super lost like this, with no way of ever finding a way out. "Wow! This place is pretty spooky! Maybe I can find some ghouls or ghosts? Maybe a goblin~" The aimless woman continued walking about before a silhouette of somebody would tred closer to her. Like a good little Wurmple, she stayed put and allowed whatever it was to come closer until she could make out any discernable details. But what a surprise it was when the figure would come closer to her.

"Oh, wow! I've heard of you!" Sylvia said gleefully, walking towards the woman with a carefree smile painted on her face. She had a gait of somebody that lacked an aim or purpose out in the wild like this, yet also lacked an apparent care of their well being had they anything better to do than to mess with ghost and types all day. "You're the Head Scientist, right? Wow, I didn't think you'd be super cute!" she said, her eyes then immediately going over to the Gengar behind her. An audible gasp was heard as she fawned over the adorably terrifying little guy. "And lookit that Gengar! The points are so fine! Somebody's definitely a lil' prankster. So cute and terrifying!~"

Oops! She totally slipped on why she came here! Regardless, Sylvia smirked, presenting herself to the head scientist. "Anyway, would you mind if I helped you with your training, ma'am? I kind of got lost in the fog."

her expression flattened at cute.[break][break]

”underboss, actually. recently promoted.”[break][break]

the gengar in her shadow grinned malevolently, but didn’t move from where it was. perhaps it didn’t appreciate being called cute, either.[break][break]

at help with training, lulu hesitated, if only briefly. it was people like this, smiling and buoyant despite all they represented, that were her kryptonite, with so few exceptions.[break][break]

in the end, she obliged, as an underboss would. ”you’re welcome to join us, sure. we’re searching for unown, but i won’t turn down a battle, if that’s what you mean.”

"Underboss! Wow, you're like my super boss then! Congratulations, ma'am!" Sylvia gave a mock salute to high ranking official, even when she didn't seem to visibly react to her cute comment. No wonder Gengar was her partner. Both of their reactions were as stoic as a Geodude! Although she did seem to a score a little assist time with one of the bosses of Rocket! The lowly but peppy grunt that was Sylvia was always happy to help out the higher ups. In fact, that was pretty much most of the work she did besides going out and stealing, harassing, blackmailing and all that. She agreed to her help nevertheless, and Sylvia seemed even more pleased.

"Oh, so you weren't just training then. I figured the Underboss would have sent somebody at the bottom of the food chain to do that, but fair enough! I'll help keep an eye out for that unown for you, Boss!" She said, glancing towards the Gengar and then back to the three Pokeballs on her hip. "Besides, you'd wipe the floor with me! Sure, it would help me be a better villain, I'd rather get you that Unown~"

The two were continued down the road. Sylvia would remain quiet for the most part, maybe sometimes pointing out the nearest shape in hopes it would be an Unown only for it to be a random Pokemon just passing bye. One of which would actually be a small Smoochum, Sylvia looking down at it. "Awww, aren't you cute?" The Smoochum responded by using Powder Snow at the woman, sending a gust of freezing snow towards her. While admittedly, it was pretty fun to be blown back and have freezing icicles thrown at you, the grunt poked her head up and actually smirked at the display. "Wow, that was something fierce!" she looked up to see Lulu continuing to walk down the path before frowning to herself. "Oh, uh...sorry! I can't talk! We're on a super secret mission. Tell us if you find an Unown, okay?" The Smoochums looked at her confused, but Sylvia just hurried to catch back up with the Underboss while giving a brief report.

"Sorry, Boss. I don't see an unown yet."

all of the excitement was met with mild energy. ”great.”[break][break]

they hadn’t made it far before the movement in the fog pulled their attention. she looked back, nodding at silvia’s update. unown or not, psychic-types had become much more valuable to her studies.[break][break]

”hypnosis, gengar.”[break][break]

the ghost-type followed the order, a shadow closing in with evil eyes that dragged it down, into a deep sleep. lulu walked over, tossing a pokeball at it before turning back down the path towards silvia—and past her again, if she didn’t keep up.[break][break]

It seemed like the underboss wasn't exactly the kind of person that enjoyed small talk. All of her responses were more akin to one word answers, as if just passing over her. But Sylvia had just assumed that she was super busy trying to find that Unown for her plans! Smart people did tend to struggle at multitasking! Her Gengar did a number on the poor Smoochums that she had talked to, putting the thing to sleep and then catching it with very little care. But all was par for the course for Sylvia. With a little bit of conflict, it would be growing up into a powerful Jinx in no time! "Nice catch, boss! I'm hoping there's some bug types around. But maybe that's holding out a little bit too much..."

Oh? The woman asked for her name? Sylvia walked alongside her and the Gengar creeping up behind her. "Heh, I'm Sylvia~ Just one of the grunts who do all the fun stuff. If you ever visited the daycare near the capital or anything, we've probably met." Nice and short, just like the boss might want. She'd look back to the road and keep her eyes peeled for any Unown while continuing the conversation. "You know, stealing Pokémon, destroying livelihoods, creating struggles for all the heroes, the usual things that make for a good story. Can't have a story without a villain." Her eyes did see some movement from afar, catching the

"Onna, let's go!" A Mawile popped out of the Pokeball Sylvia threw, hurrying towards the Inkay as it hovered in place. "Play Rough with it!" The Mawile cheered, rushing towards the squid as they got into a fierce game of roughhousing. The two fought, pecked and bit each other until Onna would come out victorious. Sylvia tossed a pokeball in response before the moving on with Lulu.

"Anyway, sometimes I help out the science team when I get bored or don't have much to do."

”bug-types?” she looked over the fog, thinking. what bugs appeared there? she recalled one vividly. ”i’ve seen shedinja here before.” when she’d seen spectrier.[break][break]

she walked along the path, listening to the grunt named sylvia. ”i don’t go to daycares or the capital.” they were very annoying places to be.[break][break]

she’d had similar thoughts of herself and her situation in team rocket, at one point in time. it felt distant, faded. learned from.[break][break]

a wisp of dream mist caught her attention, and she spotted a munna nearby. this time, the gengar didn’t need the command. a look from her, and another hypnosis claimed its next victim. she approached with a pokeball as before, collecting this one as well.[break][break]

Sylvia's eyes popped out of her head at the mention of a Shedinja here, her little buggy senses going off the charts! Her smile was that of a child that had seen something amazing, a world changing experience that was in the process of creating a core memory. "Ohmigod! I hope we find one! I'm a super big fan of those spooky little guys. But I really want to see a Vikavolt one of these days. Ooooh, or a Wimpod." The woman babbled on, chewing through the silence of the two of them wandering about. No sign of an unown or anything, but the woman didn't seem to mind too much. She just hypnotized some poor Pokemon and caught it, but not without a pressing question directed at her.

"They do, but it's legal and fine as long as you have a League badge than if you had a Rocket one, now isn't it?" Sylvia said in a peppy voice, turning to face Lulu as she walked backwards. "Life's cruel, people and things die, and you get hurt more and more. I wondered why it was that way forever and ever until I realized that it's what makes us strong! A big kick in the ass from life itself!"

The redhead twirled around for dramatic effect, shrugging at her shoulders together. "Sooooo~ I'm here to make things interesting! To create excitement! To make it so that the kids reading the history books in the future aren't getting bored. It's not enough that I win, that's just boring. I want others to struggle."

Sylvia explained, then shook her hand away, as if to wipe away the question. "Or something like that. Maybe I just have a talent for irritating people and making trouble! I'm sure you're probably finding out why~" A bush nearby would begin to shake as a figure emerged from it, a small insect creature sputtering around that caught the attention of Sylvia almost instantly. "Oh! Bug! Dibs!" She threw a pokeball at the creature as its form became entrapped in the spherical prison that was a Pokeball!

"My turn! Why did you become a Rocket, boss?"

”ah. not sure you’ll find them here.” vikavolt and wimpod, that is.[break][break]

it made her nervous when people walked backwards. her eyes briefly dropped to the ground near the grunt’s steps and then back up again. if she fell, it would be her own fault.[break][break]

the further sylvia got into answering her question, the more twisted and chaotic it became. she could even see some of her old self in it. it was mildly amusing, but it was also a bit tiring to hear.[break][break]

another bug popped up then, before she could give any meaningful response. lulu was almost surprised at sylvia’s luck.[break][break]

”hm. a rabsca. one of the paldean pokemon from the rifts.”[break][break]

and then, to answer sylvia’s question quite simply, ”science.”

Still eager about her capture, Sylvia would shoot Lulu a quizzical look about the Pokémon. "Rabsca? Huh. I've never seen of one of those before. Guess I got lucky with this lil' guy." She smiled, keeping the Pokeball close to her as she adored the cute little bug that was now hers. One by one, she'd build up her little bug community all over again! then, she'd show the world not to mess around with Bug types! Everyone would rue they day they wanted to hurt her crawly pals!

"Speaking of which, any news about the Rift stuff? I always wanted to see what it was like inside, but I'm usually too busy keeping an eye on League people. Anything cool in them?"

Sylvia shot eyes full of curiosity to Lulu and spun back around while slowly trying to spot out any kind of Unown around them. No luck though, as all there were around currently were ghost types. A Shuppet passed by her head as Sylvia smirked, continuing to walk by as she threw a Pokeball at it while continuing along and picking up her new pal. "Science, huh? Fair enough! I'm not too much into the math stuff, but I can appreciate what makes stuff work! You need an Unown for all that science you're gunna do?"
