The job posting had been one that had been found while idly combing inquiry sites. Never one to miss seizing an opportunity, Calla had jumped on it. It wasn’t every day that office positions for the elite four opened up.[break][break]

Sitting in his office now, though, she wonders just what it is that she’s managed to get herself into.[break][break]

A brow lifts as he states her name, and she has to swallow the urge to make some sort of clipped remark about his reading capacity. Or that it’s obviously her, because she was called in here only moments ago.[break][break]

Instead– “MATIAS SILPH .” Spoken without inflection. Neat, even.[break][break]

He launches straight in, cutting to the chase. No preamble, no wasting time on fluff questions that have no real place in an interview. She supposes that she can appreciate that, at least.[break][break]

There’s a silent, smug part of her that wonders what it might feel like to be so promptly corrected. Perhaps that’s not smart to do in her interview.[break][break]

But even if she doesn’t stick this landing and end up with an offer, it will have been a satisfying moment. Small and inconsequential as it is.[break][break]

“Yes. To this level.” Sure, it verges on masochism, but she’s also competitive. And she definitely doesn’t care for being told she’s incapable up against certain odds.[break][break]

“Fine. Safe, secure.” By all accounts, that should be fine, right? She should want those things.[break][break]

But she is young and she is hungry. Eager to prove her mettle where higher stakes come into play. To show that she has the grit for this.[break][break]

Of course, there are other, more personal reasons too. But those have no place here, where they could compromise her chances.

Though she does no more than lift a brow as she mull it over, the part of her that soaked up her journalism and written media comms classes is feral for if this is a true statement or not.[break][break]

She has to resist the urge to let the high-toned sound of disbelief crawl up the back of her throat. Her head tilts as she looks at him. A tiny scoff still slips loose in spite of herself.[break][break]

“With all due respect, I disagree. Sure, the media might do as they will, but how do you expect your staff to respect you or do an exceptional job if you’re incapable of being straightforward with them?”[break][break]

Sitting back with a sigh, Calla’s foot taps in the air.[break][break]

“There’s no way to stop people from talking.” Her brow lifts, “Maybe act less conspicuous? That would knock out half the issue.”[break][break]

That’s an awfully specific scenario though, isn’t it? Maybe. Absolutely an opportunity for sensationalized scandal. “First of all, schedule talks with reputable sources to establish the proper story. Then fill your schedule with opportunities that aid your reputation and boost chance for photo media to cover these events.”[break][break]

A pause. “Of course, this only works if you’re careful and cooperative.”

The use of Uriah’s first name causes her to pause. Just for a moment. She’s sure it’s not meant to be a baiting question, exactly, given the lighter tone.[break][break]
