Crisp as a morning's first winter breeze, Rory's voice echoed off the closed door of his lilycove apartment. Hopefully, she'd gotten the address right, because without a second's worth of thought her fist had already struck against the wood in rapid succession.

"Aaron open up!"

It'd been, what, months since the last time they'd seen each other? And, if it hadn't been for their parents' constant nagging, that time might've extended off to a year. Maybe more.

It was just another way Rocket had fucked with her life.

there's a muffled sound of unhurried footsteps somewhere beneath the steady beat of her fist. then a lock click, then aaron appears, rubbing the sleep from one eye with his knuckle. [break][break]"oh," he says after a few tired blinks. "i thought you were the pizza delivery guy."

he takes his weight off the doorframe and steps back, letting the door swing closed between them with an unceremonious click. and then he waits there, smiling to himself, hand on the door handle, until the bit is dragged out a little too long. [break][break]"i'm kidding," he greets as he throws the door open and pulls her into a hug that says i missed you in a way he can't bring himself to say out loud without some stupid joke attached. with an affectionate ruffle of her hair, he lets go.

"you know they invented these little rectangles you can send messages in, yeah?" aaron makes a demonstrative rectangle shape with his thumbs and forefingers, in case his esteemed scientist sister failed geometry. Before even two words could spew out the sharp, pointed curve of her lips, the door had already swung back close, sounding off the absolutism with one singular click.

"Aaron!!"

Was he insane? Or, was mom right all this time, and he had really been dropped on his head? Frustion flushed her face red and weighed her brows down, scrunching up her face just in time for the door to swing back open and a pair of arms to fall over her.

She hugged him back, but only in a way that says i missed you too asshole, which she could very well bring herself to say without a dumb joke attached, but chose not to.

"I did, but you didn't reply!"

Her arms fell into a tough cross over her chest.

"Whatever. Are you going to let me in or what?"

The sight didn't surprise her. For as long as she'd known her brother, there wasn't another word that quite describes more than being a complete mess. Even if he tried passing it off to Greyson Connors , his roommate, Rory knew better than to fall victim to the gaslighting.

"Just water, please," she called over her shoulder. It's with two fingers she slowly plucked pieces of clothing from off the couch, tossing it back onto the ground before nestling into the crinkled leather. It squealed to her movement. "I wanted to talk to you about Mom."

"you're so fuckin' boring," he grumbles, voice just loud enough to be audible to Rory Faust from the living room. he rummages through the cabinets, finds a glass, and presses it against the water dispenser on the fridge door.

"what's wrong with mom — " the water swells over the lip of the glass and spills down his fingers, audibly splattering against the kitchen floor. " — aw, fuck!"
