Maybe they needed a break.

It had only been a few weeks since The Golden Key opened its doors, but things were already difficult. Lack of staffing and busy hours meant Felicity was running themself ragged, too busy to even begin sorting through the applications that had been steadily trickling into their office. That, combined with shaking hands and lack of sleep, was wearing them thin.

Luckily, there was a cool breeze and light drizzle today, leaving only the regulars enjoying steaming cups of tea and dumplings inside the building. It was quiet so far, thankfully, but still Felicity was unsettled.

Oolong wagged her little tail, gently thumping against Felicity's leg as she squeaked softly.

Felicity rested their shaking hands on the counter and sighed, their own cup of plain green tea mostly ignored but still steaming.

Beneath the awning outside of The Golden Key, Yumi closed and shook her umbrella. Her Purrloin, Itazura, poked his head out of the large tote bag slung over one shoulder, grateful to be out of the rain.[break][break]

When they stepped into the tea shop, he jumped out of her purse and wove between her legs as she made her way to the counter. Yumi's dark eyes scanned the menu, considering what she might be in the mood to drink.[break][break]

"What do you recommend?" she asked the person behind the counter, arching an eyebrow. She knew what she would pick, but if this tea shop was as good as it claimed to be, surely the owner should be an expert on traditional teas.

Felicity perked up, whirling around to the large wall of drawers behind them. They hummed for a moment before half-turning, making hand gestures to the appropriate drawers as they spoke.

"Well it's raining and chilly, so something that soothes and warms would be ideal. Chamomile is always a lovely choice and can be steeped with ginger to add to it's health properties. It is helpful in battling cold, tension, a furious stomach, and is advantageous for skincare and haircare, which makes it a more popular selection amongst young women. There's also Lemon Balm, which helps with focus and soothes the soul. If you want something more floral, there's Rosehip Tea. Rosehip tea reinforces your insusceptibility framework and is additionally imperative for your skin and tissue well-being. We also have simpler brews, with plain green tea or peppermint, or more 'exotic' brews such as an 'Unovan Fog."

Felicity smiled and glanced out to the general seating area indoors.

"Will you be partaking inside the general area or renting a room? It's 20pd an hour."

Yumi listened to the recommendations with rapt attention. She had to admit, she was not the most avid tea connoisseur, and the owner did seem to know what they were talking about. So when they finished, Yumi nodded in understanding.[break][break]

"I'll have the rosehip tea," she said, pulling her wallet out of her purse.[break][break]

20 PD per hour was nothing for Yumi, but she felt no great desire to sequester herself from the general public while enjoying her tea. A seat by the window so she could watch the rain fall was enough.[break][break]

"The general area, but I do want to see the rooms, too. I might use them in the future," she replied. Surely the owner could spare a few minutes for a quick tour before preparing her tea.

The rain thickened, a light mist rising from the ground to accompany it. Several regulars closed windows in the tea house, the ones more likely to allow rain to pool inside on the wooden floors. Several pokemon napped in conveniently located beds, lulled by the sounds of the rain hitting the roof. All in all it was peaceful, drowsy almost.

"Of course. I can leave a menu with you if you would like when the tea is brought over, we serve a variety of dim sum. If you would like we could run a slip for you, so you can pay before you leave. If not, you are welcome to pay now."

Felicity cleared their throat slightly, the scratch grating against their nerves. They tapped at the screen of the POS system, ringing up the total and leaving the space for the table number empty.

"Would you like to tour the rooms now, or after? I don't believe anyone is using them so you can tour them all if you'd like. They are mostly the same, with minute differences in decor is all."

An older couple entered, the man shaking off an umbrella as the woman smiled. Felicity shot them a smile back, physically perking up as they seated themselves and began to quietly converse. There was a sense of pride, knowing that they had managed to open a spot that was quickly becoming popular with some regulars.

Yumi perked at the mention of dim sum. She had already eaten lunch, but maybe she could order an egg tart or some other dessert to go with her tea. "Actually, yes, I'd like to keep the menu with me and pay when I leave."[break][break]

Back into her purse went her wallet.[break][break]

"I'd prefer now," she said about the room tour. "You may be busy by the time I decide to leave, so it's better to get that out of the way before I settle down in a chair."[break][break]

Yumi's lips drew back in a smile that did not reach her eyes, which glittered with silent expectation. She was not the kind of person used to hearing 'no' for an answer.
