his recent encounter with Andrea Vaneau had been interesting, to say the least, but it had not been enough to deter him from (what the youngsters would call) camping the entrance to granite cave.[break][break]

the entrance which also serves as an exit for retreating forces.[break][break]

for now, he lays in wait, watching the passageway from a spot high above.[break][break]

The light at the end of the tunnel beckoned the professor onward, despite the debilitating injuries he’d sustained within this godforsaken cave. It looked like sweet release to him; a way out of the depths of hell.[break][break]

Perhaps he was too eager to leave. He was a scholar, after all, not a fighter. Not a tactician. He didn’t see THEO BECKETT staked out on the cliffside. Didn’t even think to look.[break][break]

Gideon’s SLOWKING propped him up, walking beside him as a means of support. Both were vulnerable to attack.

though civilians are of no real threat to them, at least not directly, statements need to be made today.[break][break]

and so comes the EARTH POWER that causes a ROCK SLIDE. it rains down over the professor and his slowking, looking to crush them.[break][break]

but theo knows better than to leave it to one simple attack. he's already scaling down the side of the path, ready to advance with his nidoking.[break][break]

he throws out SCATTERBANGS that explode, looking to blind them.[break][break]

Mounds of earth and rock began to tumble down the cliffside at speeds that Gideon would never be able to outrun, even if he was uninjured and could manage to move that quickly. Luckily, his SLOWKING saw the ROCK SLIDE coming and managed to use its PSYCHIC power to stop the momentum of the falling stones.[break][break]

Amidst the descending rubble Gideon could make out two figures - a Pokémon and... fuck, another ROCKET.[break][break]

"Just let me leave! I'm no threat to you!" The professor began, venom and frustration lacing every shouted word, until–[break][break]

BANG!

Flashes of light and cacophonous, disorienting sounds pervaded the area around him. THEO BECKETT gets his wish, as both Gideon and his SLOWKING become momentarily blinded.

He wanted to scream, frustration and fear mixing into a toxic concoction within his body. It gripped at his heart, churned in his gut, held his legs fast in place.[break][break]

MEGAHORN slammed into Proteus, though the Royal Pokémon was able catch the horn between his hands as it did so. He gripped his opponent long enough to release a YAWN in its face.[break][break]

With his SLOWKING preoccupied battling it out with the ROCKET's NIDOKING, Gideon himself could only do so much. His left arm hung loosely at his side - a dislocated shoulder courtesy of Elisabeth Fiorelli. Adrenaline had burned through him and left his energy stores nearly depleted.[break][break]

"Stay... away.." The professor warned wearily, his one remaining usable hand twitching near his coat pocket, ready to release another Pokémon.

To Gideon, surrendering sounded akin to accepting his own death. He'd already been captured once and somehow managed to flee with his life. The professor didn't think he'd get so lucky a second time.[break][break]

"Just– hold on now," He thought to reason with the man, who had some familiarity with him apparently, despite Gideon only seeing a stranger approaching him.[break][break]

Before he could do so, a ROTOM manifested from a tablet within his back pocket, lightning fast as the species is known to be. It expelled a THUNDER WAVE at THEO BECKETT in an attempt to incapacitate the ROCKET underboss – giving its trainer an opportunity to run away, if successful.[break][break]

Just enough time to withdraw his SLOWKING and escape further up the beach toward Dewford Town.

Despite being promised survival, Gideon put no stock in THEO BECKETT’s words. There was no trust for ROCKETs in his heart. [break][break]

As soon as the other man fell to his knee and showed signs of being incapacitated, the professor bolted - well, trudged as fast as he could with his injuries, anyway.[break][break]

He’d lived yet another encounter, just barely.
