Cargo, delivering a shipment. Rather than a lorry, was a set of backpacks, Kouji was working with another new person, but he was new to Team Rocket so everyone was new to him. He understood that, but at the same time, every person made him worry about something else entirely. ”The whole cave, huh?” He wondered to himself, thinking of the potential risk that would come from this.

He lifted his own backpack, wrung it over his shoulders, and then handed one of the bags over to his new teammate. Akira. ”Hey, Akira is it. I’m Kouji.” He wondered, was she from Kanto just like his parents had been, perhaps she was from Johto too, it had that sound, and that kind of name.

But that was fine. ”Don’t worry, as long as you stand behind me, you’ll be safe.” He said as he flexed his right arm, as if standing so tall and strong would really be able to help him to look “cooler” than he actually was. But in truth, he was just another newbie trying to make waves.

Hopefully, waves wouldn’t be made at them.

...She hated this. She hated this so much.[break][break]

When she had joined Team Rocket, she had figured that there was some flexibility when it came to roles in the organization. And for someone as petite as her- physical labor must have been exempt from such tasks.[break][break]

Wrong. So very wrong. And worst of all, she was in a creepy place... with a very loud individual. A loud umph would escape the orange haired woman as a backpack was tossed towards her, her frail arms barely catching the bag. "...You're quite cheerful" she said in a disgruntled tone of voice. "I've never met someone excited to do physical labor..."[break][break]

As she watched him flex... she gave him a deadpan look. Yeah, she wasn't going to like this guy. Too loud. "...You better keep your word." Akira said. "Because if anything happens, I'm more useful behind a desk with a microscope then anything... physical..."[break][break]

Kouji nodded to himself. ”I’m only good for physical labor, and hard work, so I’ll do it better than anyone else.” He said as he lifted it up and hopped on the spot a couple of times. ”It’s a pretty long route, and we might run into some enemies, so make sure that you run to a good hiding spot.” He said as he began the trek itself.

The cavern insides were one thing, but at the same time, the darkness, the zubats, and even the geodudes were made to hide away by the rampant battling that had been occuring. Even now, at times, the ground rumbled, roars and screams could be heard in the distance, there was a definite scent of blood.

”It just keeps getting worse.” That smell, he couldn’t get rid of it, it would stick with him, blood, blood, blood, blood. It was a constant run of blood, but at the same time this was a battlefield. Being squeamish wasn’t for this moment.

But he had to keep a strong face. ”You’re a miserable one, aren’t you? We’re finally here, in a place where we can prove ourselves, move up, and not have to do menial tasks anymore, but you’re not happy about the opportunity.” To place themselves apart, to gain distinction in one’s role.

Jeeze, no wonder he only did physical labor. He's so fucking loud, he's probably the type to be an elephant in a fine china shop. A grim expression would cross the girl's face as she looked the man over from shoes to hair. "Tell you what," with a sharp tone, she'd finally get the backpack on her back to feel comfortable. "You have fun being... the "brawn" of all this and carrying everything, and I'll be the brain. Just listen to me and we're going to be okay."[break][break]

They were probably... not going to be okay. But thats fine, with him carrying all the bags she'd easily outrun him.[break][break]

As they begun to walk, the smell of blood on the air would cause the woman to wrinkle her nose. Memories from... that incident begun to surface, such being stiffled by an irritated sigh. Now isnt the time for that she quickly thought.[break][break]

"Miserable is the understatement of the century," Akira said with a deadpan tone, a short snort escaping her nose. "I'm not concerned with attaining- glory or whatever you seek. As long as I can live comfortably and keep my head low, I'm content with where I'm at."

He took the backpack from her, and put it around his right shoulder. ”What brains? We’re carrying things.” Kouji’s expression turned into a smirk. ”I bet you’re the kind of person that foisters things onto other people, and wants to live nice and easy.” The accusation came rather easily as he walked into the cave, thinking out the path that he had walked a few times now. It was based on a couple seconds of conversation, but he was almost certain of it.

But that was where it really ended, he couldn’t really agree with her way of thinking. ”So, you’re happy to be forgotten as a nobody huh? I thought you were pretty, but I guess you’re pretty ugly inside.” He said with a shrug as he picked up his pace, it was a damning statement to drop, but his thoughts were pretty clear on that matter. He wanted to hit something now, something to vent his anger against.

Luckily, he could sense something crashing around just further down the path, maybe he would get his path soon enough.

"Yeah? And?" For a moment, her tone sound sharp like a knife- as if responding out of impulse. Despite her... "elegant" exterior, she was just as snippy as any other girl her age. "Were you expecting me to be another psycho obsessed withs self image? Trying to crawl my way up into rankings that- at the end of the day- don't matter? Everyone wants to be a hero..."[break][break]

And she was perfectly fine with being background noise. Another face in the crowd. The less that noticed her, the better.[break][break]

"Anyways, jaded is probably a better word for that analogy," Alas, her snippy tone backs away, reverting to her... well... miserable demeanor. If anything, she seemed more tired then actually annoyed or angry about this whole predicament. "-I don't blame you for the wrong terminology. You talk so loud it makes me struggle to hear my own thoughts. I can't imagine what it's like for you-"[break][break]

Despite the migraine this guy was manifesting, he was doing a good job of distracting her. The less she thought about that smell of blood, the better. "How long do you think this will take anyways? An hour? Two?"

”We’re in Team Rocket, there are no heroes.” He added as a line, Kouji knew that full well, his father wasn’t his hero, nor was he the man he sought to be, but rather to surpass. He wasn’t someone special, no-one really. Even the last boss had been killed, and overthrown, people were switched over at any point. Everyone was expendable, but guys like the two of them were the most expendable.

He couldn’t really pay attention to what she was saying as he was stuck into his own thoughts, seeing his mood being pulled further and further down into the darkness before he shook them off. ”An hour at the longest, there’s a few shortcuts here, but others know about them too.” He said as he looked over it. ”Especially the league, so keep your ears peeled.”

”If I weren’t lo-” He stopped himself as the narrow path in front of them suddenly widened, and was made to widen by force; he jumped in front with a pokeball in hand; Scraggy came out in a flash; its arms crossed over itself; it had a number on marks on it. Bruises covered him, and a few cuts here and there. ”Low Kick.” He saw it in the head of his name.

It kicked out at the Snake made of stones, big enough to swallow everyone, but the kick which was a small movement was aimed at just the right place in order to cause it to crash down. But Scraggy didn’t want it to end there as he landed another, at key points, where the rocks intersected.

He was loud and obnoxious, but... for the first time during this walk he was actually right about something. With how little she interacted with others, she forgot how many monsters lingered within the ranks of Team Rocket; Individuals that were far worse then she was. And she didn't even do the crime she was wanted for.[break][break]

"-Well, my point still stands. Nobody gets a- ?!" She was prepared to correct him, even though he was right, but her words came to a halt as the backpack wearing thug pulled out a pokeball and summoned forth one of his pokemon. She wasn't sure what it was.. but it looked scuffed. And it was a hell of a lot smaller then the Onyx in their way.[break][break]

"Son of a- ugh," Akira grumbled, quickly digging out her own pokeball and opening it, thus manifesting her Umbreon. "Confusion Ray!" she commanded, thus causing Umbreon to charge up their attack and send it forward as a followup to Kouji's attack!

Kouji smirked as his Scraggy seemed to have the Onyx’ number. ”Wasn’t the plan for you to run?” He said just as he looked behind him, low kick was a good idea. It was a martial strike that brought the largest of creatures down to a low position. It was a powerful move against this Onyx, but just as it sought to retaliate; Umbreon’s confuse ray came into support.

It made the creature shake and vibrate, it tried to attack and missed; hitting the ceiling instead before Scraggy felt the support of the Umbreon, Assurance, a team attack move that was made for moments like this. It kicked again, a low kick, but this time with much greater force aimed at the base of where its ‘body’ met its ‘tail’ leading to it releasing a great roar, before it fainted.

”Let's find the person behind it, I doubt we want to leave them around to interrupt our supply lines. I don’t want someone skulking in the shadows to take me out when I’m taking a break.” He said as he looked around, his bags held on tightly behind his back as the Onyx was pulled back in by a red light, his eyes looking for it.

"-Uh, no!" Unlike the annoyance in her voice before, Akira's tone of voice was a literal dagger directed at Kouji. "The plan is for you to shut the fuck up and fight!"[break][break]

For a duo that seemed to fight alot, the Onyx was quickly dispatched. Confusion Ray landed it's mark, which was followed by another pending it on Kouji's end. It didn't take long for Umbreon to react to the strike, assuring it's partner into what would be a victorious strike. Soon it would dissipate into a red light- and the duo would attain victory.[break][break]

"..." She said nothing in response to Kouji's command, instead opting to look around for any signs of movement. Other then the red light, the visage of... something moving on the other side of the rock bridge would raise an eyebrow. One... two.. "Over there," she said, gesturing a hand in the visage's direction. "They ran in further ahead. I think two of them. Couldn't see more then an outlines."

”Watch the bags, Scraggy listens to the ugly lady there.” He said as he followed the plan as he dropped the bags, and went into a sprint. He went for his pocket, in his back pocket where a knife sat. There was some cruelty to the action he was about to partake in, chasing a running foe, but he ran in that reaction as he took that in mind. His feet moved underneath him at some pace, each step kicked up more and more rocks.

He felt the ground running away from underneath him, but at the same time he used that momentum to step up the rockface that he saw the other running towards, using his foot to push him up until he could grip onto it, and pull himself up, an interruption and a stoppage of the other party. Still in line with where he had left Scraggy, and the other two. ”Hey, look…I’m just gonna leave, and deal with my own stuff alright? You won already, so just let me go, okay?” He asked, but Kouji sighed.

”Sorry. But the loser of a fight doesn’t get to decide how it ends.” He said seconds before he leapt into action, barely ducking as a punch was shot towards him, and he charged forward, both hands clenched tightly around a knife handle before he plunged it forward with all of his body weight. It wasn’t aimed at the man’s heart, but at his stomach. Uncoiling himself, he jumped into the person, taking him as well as the other up into the air.

”Hopefully someone who isn’t one of us finds you.” He said as he dropped them and took out his knife before he wiped it off on the man’s clothes before he turned it in his hands, and had it click back into place.

”Things are always dirty…Aren’t they.” It was no different from the streets of Rustboro, and for that reason, he needed to do much more than this. But also, he didn’t feel happy about it as he leapt back down to cross the way back to where they were.

”Hey ugly, we’re clear. Let's keep going.” He spoke as if he hadn’t just stabbed a man, but his expression said otherwise.

The victory seemed to be... well.. not celebrated at all. It was a job afterall, and these pokemon and people were in their way. It was such an awful mindset but... she would get used to it eventually.[break][break]

Or so she thought. "I'm not- HEY!" Before she had the chance to shoot back at the guy, he was off running after the duo. Not only did he leave the bags with her, but his fucking pokemon as well. A series of grumbles would escape her, "First he calls me ugly, now I'm his god damn babysitter. Why are all these Rocket people so childish..."[break][break]

In the darkness... she could barely see it. Kouji approaching the guy, words being uttered- before the sound of something hitting against the ground could be heard. Did.. did he just...[break][break]

No, don't think about it. her eyes widening in realization, before snuffing out the thought with closed eyes and furrowed brows. Don't think, don't think. He probably just.. knocked him out. Left him for his friends to find later, or maybe pokemon food.[break][break]

And by the time Kouji returned... her expression was nothing more then externalized annoyance. "...Hopefully that'll make the trip a bit easier," she mused in a grim voice. Luckily, the darkness of the cave her her some leeway to hide the distraught thoughts behind her eyes...

To say Kouji noticed or not would be saying too much, he didn’t pay attention. He was straight forward about things like that to begin with. He lifted up the two bags, hoisted them, and then looked over to Akira. ”That’s why things will never just be comfortable here.” A set of pessimism, it was the goal he had sought since he was a child, but there was all kinds of rules that were required in a place like this one.

”Good work Scraggy.” He said as he held the pokeball, and the red light encompassed his pokemon before dragging it back into the small form before it shrunk back down into a smaller ball. He put it back into his pocket, and walked on anyway, a shortcut was now open to them.

”If you don’t have any dreams, why are you in team rocket anyway?” He asked her the question that had been on his mind this entire time. While it wasn’t his business, he was interested enough to broach this.
