Islands floating at the bottom of the sea. This place makes no sense. Michael Navidson is blessed to have Ole Ironsides. Truth be told, he’s happy for the break from walking. His feet hurt. He’s been going all day. No food, little water besides Roland’s life dew. Nothing to treat his wounds beside Roland. That Gallade truly is the backbone of his team. Leaning against Ironsides, the darkness almost takes him. This close to the rift, anything could happen.[break][break]

Beneath him, shapes float through the sea. Monsters threaten to reach up and snap at him. Bite at him. Kill him and his Skarmory both.[break][break]

What gives him focus is the sight of a woman. He spies her somewhere along this impossible Euclidian island chain. Navy, at his heart, is a chivalrous man. A chauvinist pig. Not for the first time, nor the last, he cannot bring himself to believe there can be evil in a woman’s heart. He flies to her. Looks down at her, like a knight in shining armor atop a steel bird.[break][break]

“Hey,” he sounds tired, but he resolves to hold firm for now, “are you alright? I can give you a ride wherever you need to go.” It had been a while since he’d ran into anyone from the League. If he could get her to safety, that’d be enough for him.

Just one wrong step and she fell into a fucking hole. A hole of literal hell. Mind bending fuckery, weird pokemon trying to eat her... One thing after another, shit just kept happening. And with Umbreon down, she was all by herself...[break][break]

To say that she was done with all of this shit was the understatement of the century. No phone service either... she couldn't even call anyone to help her. She was going to get in trouble for not getting the field information out by the day's end...[break][break]

Alas, the sound of a voice would cause her to jump, a literal savior riding in on... what the fuck was that? "I-" You know what, that didn't matter. League? Rocket? Usually she cared, but if it meant getting the fuck out of this place she was here for it.[break][break]

"N-No, I'm not okay. All my pokemon are hurt and I dont have a way out of this place," she sounded mortified, a pitiful sight regardless of what faction she was apart of. "I'd appreciate it if you could take me to find help!"

A scared, lost woman wearing an eyepatch. Younger than Navy by a few years. He looked at her with as much sympathy as he could muster in his current state. Navy trusts her, Ironsides does not. Ironsides, as a rule, is a curmudgeon. He doesn’t like anyone. For a middle-aged Skarmory, he is remarkably like an old man. He rolls his eyes at the girl and her words. He sees the caustic edge of this girl’s soul. She is no damsel.[break][break]
Even still, he and his trainer have something in common. Neither one can turn down a cry for help. Even if he thinks the girl might well be harboring ill intentions, he does not refuse to let her on. He squats. Navy offers her a hand to help her climb up onto Ironsides. In front or behind, it makes no difference to him. So long as she’s comfortable and secure.[break][break]
“Sure thing. I’ll get us out of here. The name’s Navy, by the way. Well, Michael Navidson if you care for proper titles. Buuuut, Navy’ll do just fine.”[break][break]
Skarmory lifts off. Takes to the skies once more. Neither trainer nor Pokemon suspect they are harboring a Rocket with something important on her person.[break][break]
“And this ole thing here’s named Ole Ironsides.”

God, he was so nice... was he not concerned she was lying (she definitely was)? People were so weird in Hoenn... but the Skarmony- Ironsides- had some semblance of caution at least. The eyepatched woman didn't dismiss the bird's sideyes and reserved nature. And quite frankly, so long as she was careful with what she said, she was more then happy to exploit this ticket out of here.[break][break]

She refused to be a damsel, but.. she definitely was in distress. And this guy's concern clearly didn't allow her to disagree with that. "Its nice to meet you both- uhm-" It was weird to act... normal. Being surrounded by Team Rocket, she was getting used to acting so tough- to act like another bad guy in a sea of monsters. While she definitely needed to be careful, she was going to take advantage of the break.[break][break]

"-My name is Amy. I'd introduce you to Umbreon but- she's down for the count. I got jumped by some trainers and fell into a hole down here..." Finally upon Skarmony, she would rub a hand on the back of her neck. "-Uhm, thank you. I really appreciate this. How can you be so calm being down here..."

His blood boils at her words. Assumptions are made. They make an ass of Navy and Navy. His mind jumps to Rocket grunts, and the people that he’d already fought on his way inside. Ironsides flies over the dark midnight sea beneath them.[break][break]
“Calm?” He asks with a curious eye. “I’m not calm, but I’m not gonna let you die.” With someone else to look after, he’s able to center himself. That’s the sort of person Navy is. Gabe wasn’t wrong. He really does have other people’s best interests at heart. He sees this girl, Amy, as just another hapless citizen of Hoenn caught in the crossfire. Another soul to save.[break][break]
At least there’s one thing he can feel good about today.[break][break]
“I’ve lost people. I’ve been beat up. Only reason I’m still standin’ is cause my Gallade knows a thing or two about mending wounds. But I can’t just stop. I’m too damn dumb to qui-”[break][break]
Something in the seas beneath them roars.[break][break]
A creature jumps out at them.[break][break]

This Gyarados isn’t Kohryu. Its mouth flaps are white, marking it as a female. More than that…[break][break]
Its scales are red, and it is impossibly large. This is no normal Pokemon. It is a creature of the rift, here to chase them. Navy jerks up hard on Ironsides’s reigns. The bird beats a frantic path up to the ceiling. Tailfeathers come loose in a rain of steel spikes that fall down on the angry Gyarados. It hungers. It wants prey. It means to feed.[break][break]

"O-oh- I-" He wasn't calm? Man, he did quite a good job of hiding it. She had no idea of the struggles he'd endured- and quite frankly, she felt bad just thinking about it. It was a shame that Rocket Members weren't so open about these sorts of things.[break][break]

"Uhm- I'm sorry to hear that. At least Gallade has your back! I wouldn't say you're-?!" Her words travelled to a stop as suddenly, Skarmony would begin to change their flight path. Without thinking, a hand would shoot towards Michael's sleeve and grasp on for dear life![break][break]

Navy is smiling.[break][break]
He can stop pretending to be things that he’s not. With the wind whipping through his hair, a massive monster warped by his own grief at his back, and no end in sight, he can be the trainer he’s meant to be. There is no fear. If he is afraid, he is lost.[break][break]
Adrenaline floods his body. The beast nips at his heels. So close that he can feel its breath. That it hasn’t shot forth breath and cooked them both is a small miracle. This feeling, he’s read about it in books. The edge. That place where you’re on the line of life and death.[break][break]
Ironsides feels it, too. His armored bird feels alive. Master and Pokemon are synced.[break][break]
“Shrink, Ironsides.” Navy orders. “Amy. Hold on for your life. ‘Cause this is gonna be a bumpy ride.”[break][break]
Ironsides screeches as he shrinks his own internal organs. Drops more weight. He looks down at the tumbling sea, the rolling islands. They’re lost within ultra space. Well and truly lost.[break][break]
He dives. Lets gravity do his work for him. The creature is not expecting that. It is far, far larger. It cannot simply turn on a dime.[break][break]
It’s like riding the world’s most intense rollercoaster.

...She wasn't sure what was supposed to worry her more: the fact that this guy didn't know what the fucking thing was, or the fact that he was literally smiling. He seemed nice and all but- that was terrifying. Guess League was full of crazy people afterall.[break][break]

She hoped this information about the underboss locations as worth traveling over. Because if she was going to die trying, she was NEVER going to volunteer herself again.[break][break]

"What- what you you mean- uuUUUUAAAHHHHH!!" She was unable to hold back the fear as Michael caused their ride to start moving erratically. And, as a result of it, Akira would turn her hold into a literal hug of the man's upper arm. A hold that was for dear life!

They tumble through the air. Him, the girl, the Pokemon. They’re united in these moments. Whatever separate paths led them all together, they are here. Navy’s pulse pounds. This is a war of attrition.[break][break]
“I didn’t know Gyarados got that big.” He comments as Skarmory pulls out of the dive just before they hit the ground of an island. They can use weight to their advantage. Maneuverability. Would that Josh, famed electric gym leader of Mauville, could see him now. This was a race for the ages. A race with the lives of the contestants on the line.[break][break]
“It’s gonna come down for us. Here’s the trick. We’re gonna make him run into all kinds of problems.” Skarmory understands. He reads the writing on the wall. Above them, the creature whirls in the air. It is beautiful. Elegant. Like a dragon from the mythology of the east. It huffs. And it dives.[break][break]
All along the island they’re resting on, Skarmory spreads spikes. Spikes and rocks. He makes the island uninhabitable. The Gyarados little cares. All it wants to do is kill.[break][break]
“Taunting me by having a Gyarados show up…” In that moment, he hates this place. Hates the fact that it thinks it can mess with him.[break][break]
“We’re gonna go up again soon. Grab my stomach.”

"How is that a Gyarados? Or, It's not like anything I've ever seen!" Akira said in a frantic voice. "-Surely thats not something made by this place right? I've heard stories of this place warping to take on the look of your nightmares. Or- I've seen it myself. But- ?!"[break][break]

What appears to be an nose dive towards an island makes Akira's heart stop. Holy shit, this guy wasn't just crazy, he was suicidal. Despite the little trust in her already horrified heart, Akira would stumble to some extent as Skarmory landed and begun to rip the island to shreds.[break][break]

-Just because she was terrified, however, didn't mean she was stupid. She had a semblance of an idea of what Michael was planning- and she didn't like it one bit. "Your stomach?! Are you sure? Thats not weird for you is it?!"

Ironsides takes off as it crashes into the island, flying along. Baiting it to chase him along the surface. Flying low, just above the rocks he planted earlier. Navy couldn’t afford to look behind him, but he heard screams. There’d be a trail of blood. It sounded like his little gambit was working.

...It was kind of noble how he was easily able to discount his own comfort for the sake of herself; A person that, while wasn't the evilest person on this planet, wasn't exactly being truthful to him either. It was the kind of niceness that made her wonder if he was adamant on being generous, or there was sort of honor code established in his fucking brain.[break][break]

Its cry is like sandpaper for Navy’s soul. It’s Kohryu’s cry. His fallen comrade. His brother’s ace. A Pokemon he dismissed out of hand. One that saved his life, in the end. Navy hates that he has to hurt a specter of his past. It’s not the first one. Nor, he doubts, will it be the last shade of his old partner that he sees in this place.[break][break]
He hardly notices her clinging to him. Not that he minds either way. So long as they get out of here in one piece, what’s it matter where she hangs on to him? Girls from other regions sure are weird.[break][break]
