Hair tied back in a halfhearted ponytail, Emerson twists around to look at James, enthusiasm bright on his face. “Thanks for coming out with me. Think we’ll find anything good?”

Granted, any sort of electric-type would be a success in his book, but it really is all about the rodents. Plus, he doesn’t usually do this whole active searching thing. Or he hasn’t since he was a kid, sent out for school in Paldea. It’s kinda nostalgic now that he thinks about it.

He can’t recall ever being this enthusiastic about it, though.

The lil guy scrambles atop Em’s head, peering down at the minun in James’ arms curiously. Beignet, however, finds something unfamiliar.

“Ampharos looks nothing like a sheep,” he remarks as his pawmot swings at it with an ARM THRUST. He looks over at James with a bright grin.

“So we’ll call it an overgrown rat for now.”

"sorry, blue gummy bear's a little shy. i'm sure he'll warm up to your plusle soon."

he offers a smile, then pats his minun on its head.

somewhere along the way, his emolga manages to pick up a wild tyanmo before dropping it in front of james. he saves it with a pokeball.

"ampharos kinda looks like an overgrown rat, you're right."

He turns the newly caught pokeball for the ampharos in his hands. "What even is ampharos?" he asks as he pawmot turns to clash with a doublade that drifts by. He SLAMS into it, knocking the cursed blades back toward his trainer.

"Sure as shit doesn't look like a sheep." His nose wrinkles. Maybe a shaved sheep?

a heliolisk leaps out of the bushes and surprises them. he jumps in reaction, unable to stop himself. he laughs it off before giving the heliolisk a berry, befriending it.

With it distracted, he tosses a pokeball at the little pink gremlin's back. "You and me, both," he admits, grin sheepish as he glances back over his shoulder. "None of this is me - Beignet is just running the show."

Taking a cue from James with the heliolisk, Em's plusle digs a biscuit up from the bottom of his back before hopping over to where the other's minun is hiding. With little paws she offers it up to him.

Beignet throws out a paw, snagging an emolga from the air with his arm thrust. And because it’s a rat, Emerson immediately tosses a ball at it.

James’ remark prompts a flutter of anxiety and Em looks at him with wary eyes. “Yeah…I think that’s a fair point. Have you been to any of those rifts? They’re crazy!” He hums, tracking the movement of his pawmot as he continues to root out other pokemon.

“But I don’t really know where to start with any of that—do you?”
