Alright so she had just gotten her ass royally handed to her in a fist fight, not great, not the best, but what's past is past, doesn't even matter anymore. What matters now is restoring her dignity as she patrols the cavern, if she can score some Pokemon off some unwitting League nerd than losing that intel won't even matter in the end. It's not promotion material certainly, but it's saving face! This is what's running through the mind of the Rocket grunt as she rides around Granite Cave looking for someone to mug, her Scolipede looking quite miffed as well by the rough series of events that had just occurred.

Thankfully it doesn't take long for her to find someone in this horrific warzone, a pink haired idol looking girl who definitely had no place being here. Xenon grins viciously as she taps her heels against the side of Radon to signal acceleration, laughing maniacally as the trainer and Scolipede charge the girl without hesitation to spear her right through the heart with a brutal Megahorn.

The immediate assessment of Luka Chêne is a solid one. She really doesn't look like she belongs here, too peppy and obnoxiously pink to be taken seriously. But what she lacks in brains and brawn and battle prowess she makes up for in stubbornness— that, and her arsenal of support Pokemon have helped keep the League members stationed around the rift entrance hale and hearty.[break][break]

In a moment of quiet, her partner had gone off to grab more medical supplies. A poor decision really, for she hasn't been alone for more than five minutes when someone comes barreling down the cave, nearly impaling her on their Scolipede's horn. It's only because of their laughter alerting her that Luka is able to jump out of the way in time, pressed against the rocky stone wall as the giant bug races past.[break][break]

"T-that's so dangerous!" she scolds, her heart hammeing in her chest. "You could really hurt someone, you know!"[break][break]

Of course she could have been hurt. That's the point. But Luka still scolds her assailent like she's disciplining a child, finger point and all.[break][break]

To prevent another such rush, she quickly reaches into her bag and pulls out a sticky glob. With one precise toss (thanks to so much practice at the splashfest!) she manages to throw the glob at the Scolipede's feet, trapping it in a thick layer of adhesive ooze. Her Musharna is quick to act once the giant bug is trapped in place, unleashing a powerful psychic towards it.

A narrow swing and a miss, if she had drawn her sword beforehand she definitely could have made that kill, but no point lingering on past mistakes! The Scolipede drifts to a stop to let her trainer dismount and face the opponent head on, or at least that's the plan before she finds her feet suddenly gooed up in some strange substance the girl had thrown at them. Xenon at least reacts quickly as she leaps off of Radon once she spots the Musharna released, narrowly avoiding a blast of psychic energy decimating the poor bug and leaving it limp in the sticky hold of glue holding it down.

"If you were looking for a safe space, you should have stayed home instead of wandering into a war zone!" Despite the poor circumstances though, there's a sadistic mirth in the girl's voice as she throws out a pokeball to release her Gengar. His eyes glint with malice as he pins down the duo with a terribly Mean Look, before immediately moving into an evasive pattern to avoid any psychic counterattacks that could be coming their way.

"Eh? I-I'm here to try and keep you guys out! I'm just trying to help people, not skewer them! Geez!"[break][break]
Luka hadn't expeted Ume's first attack to hit so hard, but with the Scolipede immobilized there's little else it can do anyways. She still feels bad for a moment— as though she'd been playing dirty. But then she remembers that she'd nearly gotten stabbed and that guilt starts to fade.[break][break]

"I honestly don't get it," she continues, high off her small victory and feeling a little self-righteous in the moment. "I mean...d-doing all this, hurting people...how can you actually enjoy it? Does it really make you happy?"[break][break]

The bravado in her voice quickly changes to a little squeak of fear when the mean look strikes, keeping her from withdrawing Ume even though now, the dreamy tapir is at a clear disadvantage. Panic threatens to set in but she takes a deep breath, recalls some advice from Isaac Merlo, and changes tactics.[break][break]

Her Musharna's dream mist billows through the narrow cave system, encasing both Pokemon and trainer in a shroud of pinkish fog. It's not the most spectacular cover, but it's enough that when a hypnosis rings out from the mist, it's hard to tell where exactly where it's coming from.

Ah, so she's one of these kinds of people huh? Get in one good hit and you get all high and mighty, moralizing and preaching about how wrong it all is, how the world is so unfair, blah blah blah.

"I don't know, why do you eat burgers, spend an hour on makeup, and spend all your vapid time watching celebrity gossip videos online? It's because it satisfies the animal urges in your brain in a way that's considered acceptable by conventional society. I just dig a little deeper into those animal urges and do practical studies. Some people say we're descended from Primeapes, I'm indulging the primal urge to beat you to death or otherwise dismember you." She almost sounds bored as she gives the explanation, and how couldn't she be, she knows all her words are just gonna bounce straight off this girl's brain anyways. Some people just aren't meant to understand one another, in Xenon's case, most people don't.

A dull pink mist blankets the field and a devious smile spreads across her face as she drops low, a sharp whistle blowing through her lips signalling Argon to do the same. Then, that whistle changes pitch. High, low. Low for five seconds, a little higher for three, then a sharp stop. The Gengar drops down to the ground and silently submerges itself into the terrain, phasing through solid matter like a Sharpedo diving deep into the ocean, only a single eye poking out as he searches for his prey. And once the Musharna is spotted in the fog...

Bang.

A Shadow Ball rockets up from below to slam right into the psychic pokemon, the concentrated lamentation of the damned exploding up as Argon fully emerges from the ground, giving only a moment to react as the Gengar closes in on his target with a devious cackle!

Even someone as dense as Luka can understand that there's no getting through to this girl. In fact, they're almost eerily similar; so set in their own ways that no arguments will sway them. If only their views weren't so diametrically opposed, they might actually get along.[break][break]

The confidence she had felt when their first attack struck quickly starts to fade, however— Ume's hypnosis fails to land, and she's struck by a powerful shadow ball a moment later. The impact sends her falling backwards, though she manages to remain hovering a foot or so above the ground. However, she looks to be in terrible shape.[break][break]

"Ume! Are you okay? H-hang back for now!"[break][break]

She can't recall her tapir, but there's nothing stopping her from sending out reinforcements. This other woman doesn't seem the type to play fair, so why should she? It's just as she'd said— this is a war.[break][break]

Her Lopunny is relased with a flash of her love ball, the pink rabbit bounding out to take the field and protect her teammate. It seems an odd choice against Gengar, until the Lopunnite worn on a ribbon around her neck begins to shine.[break][break]

Now mega evolved, Bonbon takes a running start and leaps towards her opponent. She can't achive much height in a cave system like this, but her high jump kick instead turns vertical, giving her enough momentum to hopefully land a hit against the Gengar. Her scrappy ability means that even a ghost is vulnerable to her powerful kick.[break][break]

Behind the rabbit, Ume continues to act. Her frenzy plant is an unusual move for her species, but soon thick vines start to encircle the Gengar, trying to trap it in place to ensure that Bonbon's attack hits.

That's all it was to Xenon, just a bunch of tired and dead ghosts (not even the fun ones!) trying to leave behind their righteous morals and control the future long after their time had passed. Worthless to the core, every last one of them!

The Shadow Ball breaks upon the Musharna's flesh and a wave of otherworldly energy assaults her delicate psychic sensibilities, Argon cackles with delight as he pushes himself backwards through the air and sticks out a mocking tongue at the tapir.
[break][break]
Yet the game changes once again as the idol princess throws out another Pokemon, activating her trump card in a flash and turning the tables on Xenon as she scrambles to react. "Shit, Argon-!" No time for the proper commands as a thick set of vines blooms from the rock floor below and wraps around the Gengar, setting up for a super-sonic high jump kick to crash into his ghostly body with a reverberating impact. A choking sound escapes Argon's mouth as he feels the air leave his nonexistent lungs, a beat passes as he struggles to regain his bearings, but his eyes snap to attention as Xenon issues her next order.

"Hypnosis, pattern Iono-Five-Alpha!" Isoteric symbols form in the Gengar's eyes as he stares at the Lopunny from up close, no room to dodge as psychic commands worm their way into her brain and lull her into a deep sleep. Meanwhile Xenon has run forwards and drawn her sword to join in the battle herself, hacking away at the vines restraining Argon. And on the other side of the room, Radon had finally recovered from the brutal psychic assault it had taken half a minute prior, its body straining against the gooey substance holding it down as it slowly trudges towards Ume with vengeance in its eyes.

It's a wonder that anyone ever takes her seriously. She sounds like the protagonist in some cheesy shoujo manga.[break][break]

"Fighting like this...i-it always just leads to retaliation and hurt. You'll always be running from the consequences of your actions, you know! But kindness and love...those are free! A-and nothing bad will happen if that's what you choose to put into the world!"[break][break]

It's a horribly idealistic view of the world, but it's clear that Luka wholeheartedly believes in every sappy statement. And to her credit, it's something she's willing to fight for— to die for, should it come to that.[break][break]

She takes no pleasure in beating down on the other woman's Pokemon, though it's clear that they have no other choice. There's also no time to celebrate a successful attack, because the Gengar still stands and their opponents are quick to retaliate. The playing field is also becoming more even— but although the Scolipede is coming after them with clearly malicious intent, Luka and Ume ignore it for now, Bonbon's safety is a far more pressing issue.[break][break]

There's nowhere for her to run, and the hypnosis quickly puts her into a dreamlike trance. She blinks, then stumbles. Her eyes flutter closed and she starts to topple forwards, already in a daze. But as soon as Ume's heal bell chimes she blinks awake and rights herself, her hazy expression sharpening into a glare.[break][break]

The Gengar being so close had almost sealed her fate, but now it might seal his. Before he can escape again Bonbon rushes him with a flurry of punches and kicks, a play rough perfectly suited to a cute bruiser like her. However, her attacks are indescriminate. If Xenon doesn't get out of the way, she might find herself caught up in the fray.

Even if nobody else would take such a cheesy line seriously, Xenon would respond to that ideal with full force. Her pride allowed nothing less, any garbage ideas deserved to be tossed into the trash, crunched and forgotten.

That's just the kind of person she was.

"If someone can't accept my ideals as they are, then they never held any worth to begin with. Other people's feelings are nothing but annoying trash, so if being who I am means I'm always going to be fighting, then I'll just run straight at the consequences and carve them all up until I'm the only one left standing!" Kindness, love, friendship, she would assign her own ideas of worth to those values, just like she assigned her own worth to violence, hate, and war. Only she could decide what mattered in her world, she wouldn't let anyone else tell her otherwise.

Xenon rips and hacks away at the vines holding Argon down, steel carving away that past holding him down and giving him just enough time to break free of his own power as a chime echoes in his ears. The Lopunny's eyes snap back open and her arms fly into motion, it's all the Rocket grunt can do to bring her sword up between her body and the bunny as a shield against the flurry of blows that attack both her and Argon. A dozen plans of action are calculated as Xenon takes a hand from her sword and reaches to her belt, eyes flickering between three different orbs and three primary plans of attack and defense. The type matchup was bad and she couldn't compete with a Mega Evolution yet, this factor alone is what pushes her decision as she grits her teeth and grabs a pure white shell off her belt.

SMASH! A thick plume of fog explodes all around them as Xenon and Argon disappear from sight, just as quickly Radon veers away from Luka and Ume as she slashes away the gunk restraining her and rolls into the fog with them. After maybe a minute the fog would eventually clear from the cave, revealing a complete absence of Xenon and any of her pokemon as the trio disappear even deeper into the cave. A total loss on her end, much to her frustration.

Trying to argue with this woman is a futile task. And as she speaks, Luka's blood boils with an unfamilar emotion: anger.[break][break]
She doesn't hate people. It's not in her nature. She's too sweetly forgiving, too determined to see the good in everyone else.[break][break]
But this woman...she doesn't like her at all.[break][break]
Thinking about it leaves a foul taste in her mouth; it's acrid and bitter, like biting your tongue. Her teeth clench as she watches the battle unfolding in front of her, her Pokemon gaining a clear upper hand. It fills her with an emotion she isn't accustomed to: the fervent desire to crush this woman and her terrible views at all costs.[break][break]
But that kind of victory becomes impossible when suddenly, her opponent vanishes. Luka blinks in surprise and rushes forwards, but neither she or her Pokemon are anywhere to be seen. Is this a trick? A product of the interdream zone, somehow? She feels paranoid that this might be some kind of sneak attack, but as the seconds pass and nothing happens, she starts to relax.[break][break]

"T-that's right!" she shouts into the cloud of smoke, "Run away! You might talk big, but you're a coward! If your viewpoint is so important to you, t-the least you can do is fight for it!"[break][break]

She bites back a shout of frustration and stomps her foot just as a crash echoes on her right. Luka whirls around to see that Ume has fallen; the tapir had been injured more than she let on in the fight against Gengar, and this combined with her damage from previous fights has finally taken its toll. This isn't a good thing, but at least it provides Luka a distraction from her anger.[break][break]

"I'm sorry, honey," she coos, sinking to her knees and pulling a revive out of her bag. "But you guys did so well! I'm so proud of you. Let's rest up for a while...and then keep on going, okay?"
