Gavin falters slightly as he steps out of the shadowy PHANTOM FORCE, having led with his bad leg. He steadies himself against the anchor of the Dhelmise that appears behind him, shadows collapsing in on themselves like a cut curtain.[break][break]

Already, the chaos of war is apparent. Cries ring out from League and Rocket alike.[break][break]

Dhelmise has teleported them to a small side-passage discovered with BARNABY FINCH, just outside of the action. Enough time to orient themselves after the portal and to ready their teams.[break][break]

Gavin sends out the Luxray alongside Dhelmise, eager to see what she can do.[break][break]

"What are you working with?"[break][break]

They may not synergize as well as they were accustomed to, but maybe they could figure something out.

Temp glances at Cillian Quinn's leg but doesn't reach to steady the other. This was something Gavin wanted, needed to shoulder on his own for a bit. When he was ready to cradled, then Temp's arms would be open and waiting for him. But for now he would just watch.[break][break]

"Some of the Eevelutions I've been training, mostly. Some of my old Gym Pokemon. Medi, too." So not that much. For now Temp calls out Medi and an fluffy Eevee. Glowbug shines brightly, Illumina energy marking him for what he is. From the same lot as his Shadows- only with an opposite energy.[break][break]

Temp reaches up and taps the stolen earpiece, listening close for a moment.[break][break]

"They've realized something's wrong and started the attack early. If we act quick we can disrupt while they're still in disarray."

Quickly considering Temp's team, Gavin suggests, "Perish Song on your Lapras. Dhelmise can switch out for the Luxray."[break][break]

He recalls Scathach, who grumbles displeasure as the shadows swallow her up.[break][break]

They'd force Rocket to adapt as well, but...[break][break]

Gavin taps the earpiece he'd taken from Temp.[break][break]

"Perish Song incoming. Prepare to switch out."[break][break]

Giving his partner a nod, Gavin steps from shadow and whistles, drawing the attention of League and Rocket alike. But it's the Dhelmise he's whistling to, the violent winds of a SPRINGTIDE STORM howling over the battlefield.

"You know you're real cute when you're smart?" Which was always, but Temp would never pass up the chance to compliment his husband. [break][break]

He's already moving when Cillian Quinn gives the order, sending out his Lapras. Shells glimmers in the soft cavern light, her lavender skin a stark contrast to the caverns around them. This one had been a gift from Gavin; even before the two of them were dating, still just friends, and she had been one of his strongest Gym Pokemon when he had been spying.[break][break]

A little whistle and she belts out a haunting melody, her boisterous voice echoing over the battlefield. It lingers against the cavern's walls, a wailing echo that will haunt this place long after her song is finished.

Gavin has slipped back into the role of an underboss, chilly and serious. But Temp's comment still makes his lip twitch, even if he doesn't return with a cheeky remark of his own.[break][break]

He covers his ears against the haunting song, and his Dhelmise immediately ALLY SWITCHES with the Luxray, who CHARGES WILDLY into the battle to slam into one of the trainers, rather than their Pokémon.[break][break]

She was still wild. Untrained.[break][break]

Well, they'd work on that in time.[break][break]

As soon as the light on Dhelmise's ball dims, Gavin sends it back out, its ANCHOR SHOT trapping one of the Pokémon afflicted by the song. Shame he didn't have his Stakataka; he could have blocked them all.

Perish Song would be a killer to many. Not to Shells, not this time, since Temp calls her back as soon as her song is over. Medi and Glowbug wince but charge out into battle to join Cillian Quinn's pokemon. Energy surrounds Medi, Mega Evolving the Medicham; she Thunder Punches a Blastoise in the face that starts towards the Dhelmise. A vicious Take Down from the Glowbug knocks a man down, the Eevee sinking his teeth into the man's eye and ripping. Where Agni and Iceblock were vicious by the nature of Shadows, Temp had been raising the Eevee on raw meat and blood.[break][break]

He knew he would need to swap these two out before the Perish Song got them. But that would just allow for more chances for blood.[break][break]

"Nidoking at nine." Is warned. The previous silly demeanor is forgotten for the moment; Temp slides back into a practiced flow of battle.

Much like Temp's Eevee, the shadowed Luxray sinks fangs to flesh.[break][break]

When one of the unfortunate officer's Pokémon charges forward in a desperate bid to save them, she leaps away from a mangled corpse.[break][break]

Gavin whistles to the Luxray, more to get her attention than anything, and gestures to the incoming Nidoking thanks to Temp's timely warning. "Kill."[break][break]

She rises eagerly to the challenge, FANGS frosting over with ICE as they find purchase in the Nidoking's hide. Though its POISON POINT activates, that only further empowers the GUTSY lynx.[break][break]

Dhelmise ensnares a second target with ANCHOR SHOT, lining them up for the PERISH SONG to knock them down.

A ghost slips up behind Cillian Quinn.[break][break]

The Gengar's claws sink into the flesh of an Ampharos rather than Temp's husband. The electric type sparks as it falls, throat slit, to the ground.[break][break]

The Gengar is slammed with an Ice Punch. the Pure Power of the mega evolved pokemon knocking it out instantly.[break][break]

Temp snarls and steps closer to the other.[break][break]

"These fuckers are trying to pull dirty tricks." That was up to Rocket to do, thanks.[break][break]

A Swift is darted like arrows in a group of Leaguers, slicing.[break][break]

But Temp calls back his two pokemon, not wanting them to pass out. They're replaced with a Shells and his Golisipod. The First Impression barrels over a Mightyena and into a small crowd of pokemon. Shells blasts with a Dragon Pulse.[break][break]

It seems like more and more League just keep coming, like rats... but they only have to help hold the line until the majority of Rocket escapes.

Dhelmise reacts fast to the incoming Gengar, but Temp is faster. The blood of an Ampharos sprays hot against the back of Gavin's neck.[break][break]

Its PHANTOM FORCE unneeded, the Dhelmise slips through shadow to take another Pokémon, instead.[break][break]

"Thanks."[break][break]

There are many of them and more, pouring through the Rift to aid their allies. So it fell to Gavin and Temp to aid their own.[break][break]

"Rocket!" His voice cracks like a whip, strong and sharp. "Retreat. We'll cover you."[break][break]

Even injured, he is still a leader. They still look to him for guidance, still pull back their weakened Pokémon and turn to run at his behest. They had faith in him, even as his faith in himself faltered.[break][break]

Whistle. Luxray looks at him.[break][break]

"Slow 'em down!"[break][break]

As officers make to pursue, her SCARY FACE strikes fear.

The rift was the problem.[break][break]

Temp thinks of the two rifts with the dream mist. He thinks of his encounter with Julia Davis and the flesh wall she had created. Temp had one chunk of that fucked up ore left on his person.[break][break]

Out of some desperation and curiosity, he flings it at the rift the League pour from.[break][break]

It shuts with a wet sucking noise, meaty and thick. Gross.[break][break]

It stops the stream... for now. The League had other ways in and out. That was just one hole for them to squeeze through.[break][break]

The Gosilopod sets up a Wide Guard to protect his allies while Shells pours out a Mist from her mouth. With any luck that should provide the stragglers some cover.

Gavin had burned through his supply of items, relying on naught but his Pokemon to aid them. The sudden squelch of a closing tear in reality comes as a surprise quickly rewarded with a brief, sharp smile.[break][break]

"Good thinking."[break][break]

With League reinforcements forced to find another way through, Rocket have been given a much needed breath.[break][break]

As Temp's WIDE GUARD halts the quaking of earth and a rising tide, Luxray shatters their screens with PSYCHIC FANGS and Dhelmise fires another ANCHOR SHOT, thick rusted chains wrapped in bloody seaweed closing the passage behind the retreating Rockets.[break][break]

Now all that was left was clean up.

The praise fills Temp's chest for a moment. Pride dances under skin. But he has to snuff the feeling to focus on the battle at hand.[break][break]

Temp pushes the stolen comm against his ear.[break][break]

"They called to pull out." A small victory. But small victories could pull together to win a war. [break][break]

Gossie's Wimp Out procs from a hard hit. But he's replaced by Shocker, who crackles out a Discharge to shock everything around where the insect had been standing.[break][break]

Meanwhile, Shells drops an Avalanche on part of the passage. No escape.
