Castform visibly droops in disappointment, especially during the Rhydon's expressive show of confidence and smug pride. Stormy can feel her jaw clenching, the strain of it becoming a dull pain in her head.[break][break]

Fernando's response is not at all surprising but not any less frustrating to listen to. Stormy does interject, however, a note of dry heat in her tone that suggests she's doing her best to keep her cool, but he's seriously pushing it.[break][break]

"Don't belittle my Pokemon. It's me who's the problem, not them."[break][break]

The use of her birth mother's maiden name is intended to be a slap in the face, but Stormy holds her composure for the most part. She can feel the back of her neck growing hot with anger, so much anger that her Castform has even picked up on it, though given the fact that his form has already taken the shape of the sun, it's difficult to tell if Stormy is upset.[break][break]

"Humiliate me as much as you want, Fernando, but that's not why you're here. Stop being childish and tell me where I went wrong."[break][break]

fernando's scowl becomes a judgmental look of disgust. "you're telling me that your pokemon are adequate? that you have all the tools needed for success and you still can't grasp it? are you that inadequate? i could give a child a well trained pokemon and have them win a battle."

with the scolding comes a fury that stems from his annoyance at her failure to admit fault. losers do not decide what is right and wherein the problems lie. that type of analysis is only fit for those that understand the issue and the problem that comes from it.

"you still can't see the issue? tch. it's a compounding problem because your pokemon can only live up to the potential of the trainer."

he scoffs.

"in simple terms, if you're pokemon are shit then you are shit, bronwen. and if you are shit, then you're are doomed to be even shittier. a strong pokemon can win with a bad trainer. you make the commands but ultimately it is the pokemon that makes the punch. you're both at fault."

his eyes fall onto the castform and then back to his pokedex.

"you don't understand spacing. a rhydon, impervious to fire attacks, charges straight at your charizard and rather than have it back off you think a fire attack will keep it at bay? unless your pokemon are trained for such an event, unless your charizard can spew out a lava that melts rock, there's no way that'll work. you need to back off and maintain as much distance as possible unless you can handle the threat at melee range."

his anger transitions into more of an astounded bewilderment as he rereads the pokedex entry.

"you choose fire to fight against another fire and rock? your castform should be able to use some type of water move or even change into its water form. that would make it effective against both pokemon, instead, it transforms into the one thing weak to the pokemon i already have out on the field."

fernando's eyes narrow. they've got a lot of ground to cover and this is just day one.

She literally takes a deep breath, because she can feel what's coming. If Fernando could find a way to suck in all of the energy from a room and use it to make himself bigger and scarier, he absolutely would.[break][break]

For as long as she can, Stormy holds onto his look of disgust with her own look of humility. She's holding her breath so she doesn't lash out and say something stupid. She's holding herself back, balling her hands into fists so tight her nails are leaving imprints in her skin. She's shaking, but she's too far away from him for him to see it.[break][break]

Deep breaths help her focus her energy on not lashing out. She knows that, in some way, Fernando is right. His manner of handling his own rage is paling in comparison to her own. Perhaps it's not just Stormy that requires a lesson.[break][break]

Castform seems to deflate as the sun's harsh rays grow weaker. Sol returns to his normal-type self and hovers next to Stormy, clearly disappointed in himself. [break][break]

Until now, and until Fernando finishes berating her, Stormy has remained absolutely silent. Her eyes had, at some point, averted from Fernando's hate and disgust, and instead began to follow the cocky Rhydon that stomped around in a circle.[break][break]

What he's saying to her is humiliating, because she is supposed to be a fire-type specialist, and yet has failed horribly at proving herself as such. She had known that she was at a disadvantage by using fire against fire - but Fernando's mention of using pure power had sunk into her a little too deeply. Pure power had not worked for her this time.[break][break]

he clicks his tongue and returns his rhydon. he leaves his charizard out because he'll need it for his demonstration. annoyed, fernando turns his back toward her and starts to leave. "i'll draft up some lesson on spacing, since you obviously need it, and we'll repeat the scenario and the correct method." at least his lecture on spacing will go to use. he's intended to present the material as a guest lecturer in lilycove, now he'll record it early and kill two birds with one stone.

His condescending tone knows no bounds, and she is the victim of his disappointment yet again. He commands her to take care of her Charizard, to bend to his will, to do as he asks. And, begrudgingly, she does.[break][break]

Not because she has finally given in and learned to respect the councilman, but because she has no other choice. His methods, while brutal and militaristic, are solid. And, without breaking a sweat, the man had taken the legs right out from under her. He hadn't even uttered a word to his Pokemon other than the corny 'battle routine. set.' gimmick he was obsessed with.[break][break]

Sighing as he finally left, she'd toss out Wadjet's pokeball. The beast was irritated, understandable, and at first wouldn't even look in Stormy's direction. Her head hung and her tail lashed from side to side, disappointment evident in the sulking way she held her shoulders.[break][break]

"We can do this, Wadjet. But we need to trust each other, and that means not always listening to what I have to say. Clearly I need some work in the predicting my opponents moves department, and so you'll have to help me step it up. You know better than I do what you're doing out there, hey girl?"[break][break]

Stormy approached her slowly, and despite the Charizards constant attempts to shuffle away and avoid eye contact, the dragon did eventually give in. She placed her head firmly in Stormy's outstretched hands, and eventually came to nuzzle the girls cheek with her own, a defeated grunt escaping her mouth.[break][break]

"Let's listen to what Mr. Dough-head has to say and let's take it to heart. We're gonna learn something today, okay?"[break][break]

[attr="class","spiral"] fernando does not return to the gym that day. he spends the rest of the day writing up his curriculum and trains his own pokemon to adjust accordingly. by the time he breaks to proof read his lesson plan the sun's already down. naturally, he groans inwardly before taking some sliced bitter root and giving Isra Nightingale a call. he asks her to update his agenda for tomorrow and have everything prim and proper for when lenora gray arrives.

morning comes and fernando arrives a few hours before lunch. his presence should be expected by now and he finds little resistance with gaining an audience with stormy. this time he's prepared, a small silph scope resting over his right eye and ready to film the contents of today's lesson.

Yes, she is a little pissed. Because the way Fernando had left insinuated that he would return in an hour or so. He didn't.[break][break]

So for an hour or so of waiting for the bastard to come back and resume training - because their session had only lasted about a half hour at most - Stormy eventually called it quits and went home.[break][break]

The next day, she was a little bit late. She figured, if he made her wait then fair is fair. That, and she overslept.[break][break]

She rubs the sleep from her eyes as she watches Fernando play with his new toy. She recognizes it, but isn't sure she's ever used one.[break][break]

Startled a little bit by how abrupt and straight-forward he was, she catches the pokeball he tosses to her with some delayed response.[break][break]

Holding it now in her hands, she quickly realises Fernando has no intention of letting her choose her own adventure.[break][break]

The councilman releases his Charizard from yesterday and she reluctantly releases his Rhydon. The beast snorts, likely unimpressed to be forced to deal with her.[break][break]

Fernando poses a question that has a very obvious answer. She debates giving him a childish one to piss him off.[break][break]

"Rhydon... technically. But something tells me you're gonna change my mind."[break][break]

Stormy stares at Fernando as if he has several more heads. Neither of these moves are inherently useful or effective against a flying-type Pokemon, and yet Fernando isn't fooling around.[break][break]

He is completely serious and waiting for her to do something. Stormy bites the inside of her cheek, her tongue swipes behind her teeth, sucking in air as she tries to focus.[break][break]

Her eyes narrow as she examines the distance between Rhydon and Charizard. The ground-type remains poised, prepared for her orders. But she hesitates, conflicted about what it is she's supposed to do. His stomp might tremble the ground, but the Charizard isn't on the ground for that to affect him.[break][break]

And, given that the dragon is across the field and nowhere close to the Rhydon, hammer arm is doubly useless.[break][break]

"Fernando, this is stupid. Neither of those moves will work. Charizard is too far away and already in the air, there's nothing Rhydon can do at this distance, at least not with either of those moves."[break][break]

the charizard is airborne but still close enough to the ground for the rhydon to hit, as long as it can get close enough.

"rhydon learns DRILL RUN. it can move out of that spot as well. hit charizard with HAMMER ARM, DRILL RUN, or STOMP."

The gnawing feeling of pressure is building up. The need to prove herself and impress Fernando is nearly overwhelming, and causes her to second-guess and triple-guess her actions.[break][break]

Stormy looks from the Rhydon to the Charizard, heeding this new command her brother has informed her of. She's certain that even with drill run, Rhydon's speed won't outmatch the preparedness of the flying-type. By the time Rhydon is in range, it's more than likely the dragon will have pushed himself higher into the air.[break][break]

She grits her teeth, however, nodding in affirmation.[break][break]
"Rhydon, get up close with DRILL RUN. Don't let it fly away."[break][break]

Assuming the ground-type obeyed, the Pokemon would race up next to the Charizard. Although it also appeared to be holding its arm up high, as it preparing to smack it's opponent down with a wind-up HAMMER ARM?[break][break]

[attr="class","spiral"] the second the rhydon shows any sign of movement, the charizard retreats. in the air, it proves faster than on foot. the charizard has no problem with beating its wings downward, maintaining a set amount of distance while ascending to prove outside of the rhydon's physical reach. with only those three move available, there's no hope of they rhydon landing the attack. despite the display, fernando shows no amusement at the clownery.

"spacing is integral to battle."

the charizard continues to climb until it reaches the maximum height that the gym allows.

"remember charizard versus rapidash?"

Stormy scowls, truly believing all of this to be a waste of her time. She doesn't outwardly express her frustration with words, but she appears slightly agitated and stressed.[break][break]

The Rhydon is immediately out of reach. Not a second after he makes his first step, the Charizard flies higher into the air. He beats his wings rhythmically, maintaining a constant distance and looking down at his opponent, his focus never straying.[break][break]

Of course, the Rhydon had expected this, and remains indifferent and just as focused. He already knows what he's doing, it's Stormy who needs to be taught a lesson.[break][break]

At the mention of her Rapidash, Stormy looks back at Fernando. Her teeth chew anxiously at the inside of her cheek.[break][break]

"Apollo charged at and was able to hit your Charizard in the air, though. Was that not what I should have done?"[break][break]

The only hostility in her tone is exasperation and confusion. She's asking a genuine question and is looking for an answer, she merely lacks the ability to be gentle about anything.[break][break]

"I mean.. is there something that I should have done?"[break][break]

She reiterates for the sake of trying to come across less intensely.[break][break]
