Mauville City was the place to be for anything and everything on the west side of Hoenn, Summer decided. And it was rather convenient that the place she was heading to was not far from her business headquarters.[break][break]

She'd heard of @girard before. A fellow Rocket who owned a pawn shop in the city. However, his trades weren't always legal. Therefore, it would be a great benefit to her and her business in the long run should she make him an ally.[break][break]

Her heels clacked on the ground as she entered his shop, bag in hand as she scanned the store. Summer took a moment or two to look at several items displayed to be sold. However, she wasn't here to shop around.[break][break]

The bell chimed. Girard looked up from the register, where he'd been meticulously counting and documenting stacks of PD bills. Mortimer hurried over, ready to assist their new guest. Girard held up a hand, indicating that the Galarian Mr. Mime should wait. Girard did not have any appointments scheduled that afternoon; their visitor was a walk-in. Antique buyer, someone in need of an appraisal, or...?[break][break]
A young woman with a lovely face and long angelite hair swept past the shelves of old telephones, clocks, lamps, and other antiques until she was standing directly in front of Girard, the only thing separating them the wooden counter where he handled his public appraisals and transactions. Her eyes met his with a rather ardent scrutiny. She addressed him with a straightforward, clipped tone.[break][break]
The woman had some kind of agenda.[break][break]
"So it seems," he replied pleasantly, nodding politely to her even as his amber eyes conveyed a hint of mockery. "What is it that you wish to speak to me about?"

The clicking of Summer's heels ceased when she reached the counter, smiling coolly. "Summer Corleone. Nice to meet you," she greeted.[break][break]

She placed one of her polished hands on the wooden surface, pulling out her phone to ensure the quantity of items she wanted to request from him.[break][break]

"I heard through the grapevine," she began, only pausing to ensure they were the only two individuals around.[break][break]

"You have a shipment of GARDEVOIR available. I'm assuming they are going to the blackmarket, hmm?" she prompted.[break][break]

Setting her phone on the counter, she regarded him with interest. "How many do you have available?"

"Ah," Girard murmured, continuing to smile. Inwardly, he tensed. Normally someone who wanted to speak to him about his other business would do so far more subtly. And by appointment.[break][break]
Business was business, however.[break][break]
"It is a pleasure to meet you, Summer Corleone," he replied, dipping his head to her in a polite fashion. He set down the bills he had been counting, then flashed Mortimer the hand signal for "close up shop." The Galarian Mr. Mime hurried off to do just that.[break][break]
"If you would follow me," he beckoned, motioning for Summer to step around the reception desk and accompany him to the back room. He led her into a small windowless office with a desk covered in various stacks of official-looking paperwork, two chairs, a filing cabinet, several crates stacked up against a wall, and, of course, a small cart with an electric kettle and various jars of tea.[break][break]
Girard pointed at the chair opposite the desk. "Have a seat," he commanded. Though his tone was still innocuously friendly, his amber eyes had grown cold. Business-like.[break][break]
After locking the door, he took a seat behind the desk, facing her with steepled fingers and a far more professional demeanor than he had previously displayed.[break][break]
"I have 20 available Gardevoir," he answered without pretense. "And three potential buyers, yourself included."

Summer gave a simple nod, following Girard to the back of his business. She appreciated the straight forwardness she had received. No fanciful words or decorative worshipping she received from many other pawnbrokers before.[break][break]

He was straightforward and to the point. It made things easier, given how busy her schedule felt today.[break][break]

She took a quick glance at the seat he offered before sitting, crossing one of her legs over the other. Her back was straight and high as she regarded him with a serious gaze.[break][break]

"Twenty, hmm?" she echoed, tapping her finger against her leg.[break][break]

"Have you made an promises or offers to your other buyers? Because I'm willing to offer you a hefty sum for your lot," Summer said, tilting her head slightly as she regarded him with an equal gaze.

"A hefty sum?" He echoed, amber eyes twinkling behind his glasses.[break][break]
He had not yet received any specific offers from his other potential buyers, but it would not be wise to reveal that to Summer just yet. Instead, he crossed his arms and regarded her, expression unreadable. Eventually, he nodded at the crates in the corner.[break][break]
"Top crate. Examine one if you wish. I would not ask a customer to buy a product they have not assessed themselves."[break][break]
Girard was a professional, and he was not in the business of scamming. He had suffered the long journey of attaining a master's degree in Finance, and though he used it to aid the world's largest criminal organization, that did not automatically make him a con man.[break][break]
If anything, he took his work - and his reputation - very seriously.[break][break]
Let his prowess in acquiring the best Hoenn had to offer speak for itself.

Summer nodded, reaching into her purse and grabbing something. That something happened to be a few thick stacks of money, evidence of her truthfulness. She allowed him to look at it for a few moments before stashing it back inside, safely.[break][break]

And he complied, allowing her to look at his goods. With a content smile, she approached the top crate, removing the lid and picking up one of the Poke balls. Rolling the ball in her hand as she examined it, she tossed it.[break][break]

Revealed from its shell was the GARDEVOIR, elegant and terrifying. It stood in perfect position, regarding them both with a cool gaze. Summer looked it up and down. It seemed in excellent condition.[break][break]

Returning it back into the ball, she put it back with the other stored Pokemon.[break][break]

"How many are you willing to sell? I know you said you have other buyers looking. But I'm in the market for quite a few."

So, she'd brought cash. Finally, Girard accepted that Summer Atreides was as legitimate as she claimed to be. Cash was preferrable: harder to trace, easier to hide, better for business.[break][break]
A satisfied smile graced his lips, his mind made up.[break][break]
"I am looking to sell all of them," he replied, waving a hand at the crates. "And all of them can go to a single person, should they make me the best offer."[break][break]
Gardevoir were beautiful creatures. Their deadliness had much to do with how captivating they were. The aesthetically pleasing was often more useful for violent work than something that looked like a monster outright. This was something Rocket had long exploited; in Kanto, it was said they trained sex workers to kill.[break][break]
Which begged the question: how dangerous was the woman before him? She seemed harmless enough, but that was to her advantage. Girard knew plenty of delicate buds that bloomed into thorny vines rather than elegant flowers, given the right circumstances.[break][break]
"The Gardevoir can be yours, Ms. Corleone - depending on what you carry. Shall we count it out and see if it is agreeable?" His eyes twinkled as he nodded at the desk before him.

Summer couldn't help the quirk of her lips. It seemed that she finally won his favor. Cold, hard cash was the black market's best friend, and she was no stranger to it.[break][break]

"That sounds excellent, Mr. Fraser."[break][break]

So, without further pause, she began to pull out stacks of cash. They began to pile on the counter, bundled neatly together without a wrinkle on any bill.[break][break]

"I intend to take them all. I do not wish for any competition to get ahead of me. Let's bargain, and once we come to an agreeable number, I will give you the cash."

Summer sat back, crossing her legs as she waited for him to count and name his initial price.[break][break]
