A Garden of Vines

An Ultimate Attack against an Ultimate Shield. A fitting clash, one that could only end with one breaking against the other. The electrified grass around them grew, as if to try and join the Luxray's shield - the exception being the grass on the hunk of rock hurtling towards it.

The rock would be the first to break - its purpose as a single attack fulfilled. But just how much damage would be dealt past the shield? Only the shielder could say.

The Light of Ruin came after, striking the Lycanroc and pushing him back. Had he never received the previous Wish, that attack may have struck him down. Filled with the power of his defeated companion, the Lycanroc was still standing, his attention focused squarely on the Zoroark.

What came next was a set of rocks flying towards the Zoroark - a Rock Tomb meant to strike and restrict the target, taking chunks off of the Continental Crush he'd used moments ago.

Something honed by battle is the ability to tell how your team is doing. And as she watches Xenos snarl at the flying rocks instead of move, she knows that his stamina is drained. He doesn't have to feel anymore pain just to prove how tough he is, his pokeball drawing him out of battle quick.[break][break]

No whistles are needed to tell Reiner what to do, electricity buzzing loud in the air as he darts about and shifts the currents that dance around his terrain. It starts as a ripple behind every step, then pushes and gathers into heavy waves/ Without warning, it's sharply condensed into a circle of points around Rocky as a Rising Voltage snaps right up.

With that attack, they'd finally reached the 1v1 that Rocky yearned for. The Wish he'd received did much to ensure he could last this long, but the strength could only last so much longer.

It was all or nothing now - and Hideo knew it. "Rocky! Get in there!"

The Lycanroc glowed white with a familiar energy, charging ahead with the power of an Accelerock behind him. He charged through the Rising Voltage (though not without harm), going straight for Reiner.

He needed to get in close, so they could truly get a battle

Hideo knew when that happened, he wasn't going to stop until one of them was knocked out - and he wouldn't stop his Lycanroc.

Electricity is swift, unable to be contained as he roars back at Rocky. Launching into a Wild Charge of his own, he meets the Lycanroc halfway and slams right into him, his claws reaching and slashing at any solid body as he attempts to chomp down on the canine's back. Excess energy latches onto Rocky and wreathes him in a stinging coat, zapping at skin and eating at the nerves with the goal of paralysing him.

The sounds of Cat vs Dog violence would be unmistakable, even to the people not present to watch the fight. The difference in size was clear, the Lycanroc the smaller of the two, but their clash made it clear size wasn't all that mattered.

The Luxray would face some Rock Climb-enhances Tough Claws, but Rocky was met with a Wild Charge, electricity surrounding and shocking him. He managed to avoid paralysis, but the damage was done.

He'd try to make his attacks, try to strike with his claws - but only a few moments later, he'd be down. He was quickly recalled into his ball. "Rocky's a tough one," Hideo said, the illusion around them gradually dissipating, "but a Wish only goes so far."

Slowly, they returned to reality.

"You did pretty well, Eris!" Hideo announced, a few Psychic Pokemon that had helped maintain the illusion approaching. He handed the two Pokeballs he'd used to one of them, another preparing a Heal Pulse for the Luxray. "Reiner really is a tough one! And reliable too!"

Elga took its place by Hideo's side as the boy approached Eris. "Victory is yours - though before I give you your badge: was there anything you would have wanted to do differently in this battle?"

It's not her belief in him, it's rarely her belief in him that will carry him through - Reiner is a determined and stubborn Luxray, exerting every last bit of energy just to hang on. And he'll barely snatch a victory from the lulls of weariness, still struggling for the first few seconds that Rocky gets recalled before finally realising that he's done it.[break][break]

As the field withers away, Eris is on the pitch, running up to her collapsed pile of a partner and practically sliding on her knees to pull him into a hug. He grunts as he always does, barely having the energy to pull away but somehow still having just enough to nitpick over just how they'll have to treat the scrapes on her knees later.[break][break]

"Don't focus on that, you dumb. You did so well!" She hushes him, stroking his mane as she cradles him like a wee Shinx.[break][break]

"I think we probably could've done better if we'd taken out your Xatu quicker. And maybe not been as reckless." How comical it must be to see Reiner gently slapping his paw against her face for that comment. Though, Hideo would probably only be able to hear the impact. "I don't got much strategies in real battles. That's probably one thing I gotta fix."

Hideo did indeed hear the light *bap* of a paw against someone's face. He was already familiar with it from all the times his Lycanroc did it to him - and usually because of the same reasons.

"Maybe focusing down a single target could've ended the battle sooner. My Xatu was certainly more support-oriented than my Lycanroc, so taking her down first wasn't a bad idea."

"I also don't disagree about your strategy; going all in quickly can work in some battles, but in a fight where you might not be sure of the capabilities of your foe, it could leave you vulnerable if it doesn't work out - and exhausted even if it does. You were using a lot of heavy-hitting attacks in that fight, and those usually carry a cost to them."

He wouldn't deny Rocky fell into a similar trap - perhaps he might've won that brawl if he didn't charge through an attack on the way there.

"I would disagree on you saying you don't have much in terms of strategy. You opened up with an Electric Terrain, and you made it difficult for my Pokemon to tell which was the real Luxray. Simple things like that can make or break a battle."

He reached into his pocket.

"It's important to look back on your past battles and learn from them. You can see what went well and what didn't, and put that to use. It's important to always be learning, so you can find your way through any ordeal you find yourself in, whether it's just a simple battle or something more complex and dangerous."

He took an Ordeal badge out of his pocket, presenting it to Eris.

"That's why I'm presenting you with the Ordeal Badge today, Eris. I hope you're willing to accept it - and I hope you're still up for drawing a mural for my gym~"
