After many bouts of training together, Zev felt he knew bryan delarosa well enough to locate the man with ease, even though Bryan had been avoiding him like the plague since early May. Zev merely had to follow the sound of grunts and objects being pummeled. Arriving at the submarine's fitness center, he could not be less surprised to find Bryan there.[break][break]

"There you are," Zev said, striding across the room. He was dressed in loose, athletic clothing and sneakers. "I need your super strength, Delarosa."[break][break]

The two men had never sparred before — not with Bryan liable to break bones with a single punch. But Zev had changed. No longer was he limited by the faults of human flesh.[break][break]

"I want to spar, and I want you to give it your all."[break][break]

But whether Bryan would be open to being in close proximity with Zev was another matter. Xerneas' Avatar had stayed back when helping Zev with the Gracidea plant, though Zev had shown no inclination to attack or harm Bryan then.

"A spar?" he says as a flask of whiskey emerges from his jacket. [break][break]

He chugs it quickly "You sure you want to spar? What if you lose control?" he asks wondering if Zev felt confidant that he could control it. "If you can't control it, I might end up killing you and it" he says as Bryan wouldn't be upset losing Necrozma, but a reliable member to team rocket like Zev? [break][break]

That's a whole can of worms he wouldn't want to really trouble himself with.

"I can control it," Zev said with full confidence.[break][break]

Except all he'd done so far was cover himself from head to toe for brief moments. This spar was meant to test his limits. How long could he keep up his armor before tiring? If he lost focus or became disoriented, would the crystals disappear?[break][break]

Isaac Merlo's persistent questions echoed in Zev's mind. And only by putting his new body through sufficient paces could he answer them.[break][break]

With a thought, he summoned the crystals to cover his body, from the bottom of his feet to the top of his head. Exposed flesh turned void-black, barely gleaming in the harsh overhead lights. Only Zev's eyes and hair remained uncovered.[break][break]

He spread his arms. The tips of his fingers ended in wicked claws. "See?"

The hairs on the back of his head stood up on edge, exactly like the sharp crystalline glass he was staring at that covered zev's body. [break][break]

To Bryan, it represented something that should have become foreign to him. Death. [break][break]

But Zev seemed to have full confidence over his ability to control it, did he have better control of it than Chu-e Choi? Were they like Killian and his strange creature? Did they just sync up better and lead to an evolution of sorts? It could explain Why chu-e was so hungry as he had to eat more to keep their bond. [break][break]

He places his wrist against his mouth as he uses his teeth to pull off his hairband. "Fine, but don't come crying to me if you get hurt." as he pulls the loop through his hand and wraps it around his hair as he jumps to attention, the floor shaking underneath him. It was times like this he missed Solgaleo's ability he stole from balder, it would have been useful right about now to blind Zev. "I wonder what'll break first. My fists? [break][break]

Or your crystals?!" he says with a toothy grin as he lunges forward at Zev with his fist cranked all the way back ready to pounce on the man.

Bryan was fast. Zev had moments to fall into a defensive stance, his arms raised. Thankfully, Bryan telegraphed his attack well ahead of impact. Zev's forearm came up to block.[break][break]

The first test: whether the crystals could withstand even Bryan's incredible strength.[break][break]

The other man hit like a truck. Zev gritted his teeth against the blow. He staggered backward across the mats, reminded of the night when Michael Navidson's Iron Valiant threw him against a warehouse when it tried to kill him.[break][break]

Zev waved his arm, surprised and pleased to find that none of its working parts seemed damaged. He didn't even feel any pain, and the crystal there hadn't cracked.[break][break]

He looked over at Bryan. "All good here. How's your hand?"

Bryan grimmaces in pain as he sees his fist slam against the armor, a crunching could be heard as Zev is sent careening backwards into the mats on the training facility's floor as the man seemed apparently unphased by his attack. Bryan raises his hand as he grimmaces and shows his broken fingers. However, one by one, they start to move unnaturally, Zev would be able to hear the bones crack and shift back into place as they forcibly returned to their original positions [break][break]

He shakes his hand for good measure, checking to make sure nothing was going to fall loose. "They're fine." he says as he laughs a bit to himself as it seemed like he would have to adapt to the armor's durability. He was surprised at how well it held up against his strength as he had gotten used to things becoming shattered and destroyed when he applied enough pressure.[break][break]

He adopts a different stance, charging at Zev once more, but instead of a fist colliding with the man it would be Bryan's open palm as he did his best impersonation of a hariyama's strike.

As Zev expected, Bryan's hand broke on impact with the crystal armor. But the powers gained from his bond with Xerneas restored the hand to its proper, healthy form in a matter of moments.[break][break]

"Impressive," Zev said, meaning it. Whatever had happened back on the smuggler's ship, advanced healing had not been a boon granted to him.[break][break]

As long as his shield held, he wouldn't be harmed. But how long could it truly last?[break][break]

The second test.[break][break]

Bryan charged again. Zev braced for impact, hoping he could prevent himself from flying across the mats again. But Bryan's strength was tremendous, and Zev stumbled again.[break][break]

He regained his footing more quickly this second time, though, and threw a side kick straight into Bryan's chest.

The attack seems to have pushed him back successfully again, but would it matter in the long run? As Zev was about to show him as the man recovers quickly and catches him off guard. Was he already so quickly adapting to the situation? Bryan had to throw him off and make it more difficult for him lest he'd prove Zev was better than him. [break][break]

He couldn't allow that, his position of power would be threatened. [break][break]

Bryan is sent careening back as he wasn't able to block the attack. He lands on his back, but he holds off on a moment, spitting out blood as he laughs a bit. "Damn, it's been a while since I've had to try hard like this." he says standing up and spitting out some blood onto the floor. [break][break]

"Looks like im gonna have to get creative with you differently than I did Elisabeth Fiorelli. Consider this a compliment." [break][break]
He says as the ground begins to shake and the floor splits open from where Bryan spat his blood, as if a sacrifice to a higher being. "Black Briar." he orders as Xerneas could feel bryan's desire and summon the tree from a distance as Xerneas watched on from outside the building. [break][break]

However, Xerneas holds back his power as he did not seek to destroy the room. Only a mere sapling emerges in the center but it was enough to strike at Zev and encase the room in briar thorns as Bryan laughs wildly and melts into the thorns. [break][break]

He bided his time, moving within the plants to strike at Zev from his blind spot.

Though Zev had knocked Bryan onto his back, Xerneas' Avatar was no pushover. Kicking him had felt like kicking a concrete wall.[break][break]

"I don't want an easy fight from you, anyway," Zev said. "Give me your all."[break][break]

However, what happened next went beyond the bounds of a regular spar. A black sapling broke through the floor, disturbing the arrangement of the training mats and forcing Zev to take several steps back.[break][break]

A tangle of thorny vines shot out from the sapling in all directions, reminding Zev of the battle at Littleroot Town last November but on a smaller scale. Still, the tangle was enough to obscure Bryan from his view.[break][break]

Zev went still, straining to hear the other Beast's footsteps across the floor.

There were no footsteps to alert Zev in the battle, only a rustling of various briar thorns as the seemed alive and pulsing with life.[break][break]

However, eventually he'd hear something as Bryan drops from the briar thorns in the roof and grabs onto Zev's head but instead of headbutting the man, Bryan uses all his weight to drag Zev's head down and slam it into the floor as he slinks back into the briar thorns and tries to escape again unless zev had intervened.

The sudden attack from above caught Zev off guard. He grunted as Bryan slammed his head into the floor of the fitness center, which had become exposed as the thorny vines shoved the mats aside. But he felt no pain, the crystals taking the blow for him.[break][break]

The two Beasts were long past a simple sparring match. Time to even the playing field.[break][break]

A crystalline tendril shout of Zev's back, trying to catch Bryan before the other man could escape. If successful, it would pierce him, tearing into his flesh. Meanwhile, Zev shot back to his feet, the tendril whipping around him to slice at the thorny vines and clear the room.

The crystals bore into Bryan's skin, anchoring him down and preventing him from escaping in this position due to the angle. Zev cleaves at thorn after thorn, however the sapling wiggles and shakes the earth again as massive roots grow to replace them and Bryan grins. "Sorry bud, those roots aren't going anywhere just yet!" [break][break]

He starts to try and pry the the crystals off of him as he didn't like the prospect of them being able to pierce him, it might start to absorb his energy. However, Bryan was surprised at how adept zev was at controlling the crystals...it was certainly more compatible with him...maybe Chu-e Choi just wasn't a good host? [break][break]

He was on death's door after all. [break][break]

But there was no time to think, the more time he spent bleeding out, the more time of his z-move would go to waste and he was running out of time. Bryan had one more trick up his sleeve. He moved his hand, making a strange gesture as the sapling shook once more and bryan began to CONTROL THE VINES.

They seem to move at zev, attempting to at least push him to get him to release bryan by creating distance between the two as some other of the vines come to encapsulate his body and give him more surface area to escape with. As the sapling spends the last of it's energy it begins to die as the Z-MOVE TIMES OUT.

The crystal tendril piercing Bryan released him. It snapped back, returning seamlessly to Zev's body. More thorny roots rose from the ground. Then they surged toward him, forcing the hitman backward across the floor, putting distance between him and Bryan.[break][break]

Unfortunately, the expenditure of energy seemed to be the sapling's last. It withered away as the Z-move ended.[break][break]

Zev took the moment to assess himself. His heart hammered from the adrenaline of the fight, and he panted lightly from exertion. However, the crystals stayed. There was no indication that his shield would falter during combat.[break][break]

Falling into a defensive stance, Zev watched Bryan for any hint as to his next move. He'd surprised Zev multiple times so far, from the strength of his blows to the use of the powers Xerneas had granted him. What else did Bryan have up his sleeve?[break][break]

Zev didn't wait to give the other Beast a chance. He raced for Bryan, two pillars of crystal shooting out of his torso and planting into the ruined floor. They raised him above any remaining roots and vines, allowing him to soar across the space toward Bryan.[break][break]

He descended rapidly, hand drawn back to swipe with jagged claws at the other man.

Bryan was quickly running out of options, while he could continue to heal the damage that Zev causes, he couldn't hurt Zev in a way that really hurt. Head to toe in invincible crystals...[break][break]

He eyes zev closely as the two found peace for only a moment before Zev suddenly fell into a defensive stance and attached himself into the floor with crystals before those same crystals launch him towards Bryan and the man plants himself firmly as if he was going to take the hit.[break][break]

He does, the crystals rip into his skin, painting black crystals a deep crimson red as it splatters onto the floor. However, the difference between zev and bryan was something he actually found a weakness but gave him an advantage here. [break][break]

He was used to pain at this point, after being burned alive, pierced through the stomach, shot in the head. This? A flesh wound. [break][break]

He toughs out the pain, hanging onto conciousness as he grabs zev's claw and uses his super strength to force zev to hit his own torso, wanting to see exactly what the crystals did when used against themselves. Two things of the same material should have the same durability, right?
