Caleb blushed. The answer to her question ought to have been obvious, but she was going to make him say it out loud anyway.[break][break]
"None," he admitted, feeling suddenly foolish. "Yet."[break][break]
He'd never really given the Gym Circuit a serious thought before. It wasn't a prerequisite for becoming a Ranger, so Caleb had not pursued it, opting instead for the bare minimum. But if this little lesson with was any indication, Caleb could use more practice as a Pokemon trainer. He wouldn't be able to fight all of his battles alone, no matter how hard he wanted to punish himself for the sins of his past.[break][break]
And anyway, he'd need all the help he could get if he hoped to prevent his brother from running rampage all over Hoenn.[break][break]
"I guess I ought to...look into it," he sighed. "Is there a gym you'd recommend starting with?"

She smiles at him and pets her noivern who slithered back over to her side "However, everyone's experience in the gym circuit is and should be different. Look at it as a way to force yourself to grow as a trainer, so don't take my advice as gospel."[break][break]

The old Caleb might have laughed at her, full of sarcastic self-loathing. But for some reason, he felt only contemplative as Melody regarded him, measuring his character as much as she had his dragon's. Beside him, Hex snorted, as if to say, we're in this together.[break][break]
"I'll seriously consider it," he answered, finally, finding that he meant it. He wasn't ready to fully commit, but he was more open to the idea than he had been when he'd first come to Hoenn.[break][break]
In Kanto, the gym leaders had tried valiantly to oppose Rocket's takeover, but had eventually been squashed like Cutieflies beneath the boot of war. Hoenn's batch seemed to have a different vibe to them, however. If Melody was any indication, the League's elite would be hardier here...full of surprises.[break][break]
"Thank you, by the way," he added, nodding to her. "I appreciate you taking the time to train with me. You must have a busy schedule and plenty of competing priorities." He flashed her a small smile. "Perhaps I'll make it to your challenge someday."
