The FIERY PATH was a morbid place. Remiel considered it the closest thing to a classical depiction of Hell that Hoenn had. He walked through its canyon corridors wearing a gas mask as a SALAZZLE followed him closely behind.

The prospect of training said raptor in an environment its species thrived in was the reason for his being here today. Ever step he took led him deeper into the dangers presented by this scorched territory. Though it was not likely that TEAM ROCKET would follow him here, he could still very well meet his end with any number of powerful Pokémon that called this place home if he wasn't careful enough.

Remiel was right to think that such an inferno would host a community of SALAZZLE. One of them emerges from the steaming cracks in the wall to challenge Nike, in fact. It manages to DOUBLE-SLAP her before a CORROSIVE GAS fills the area. Normally, Poison-type Pokémon would be immune to such gas. But Nike's CORRODES nonetheless.

Shocked and terrified by this revelation, the wild Salazzle flees. When the gas clears, Remiel steps forward to inspect his Salazzle's injuries. When he's sure she will be fine, they move on.

The MONFERNO is a feisty one, and this certainly doesn't seem to be the first Salazzle it has battled before. It nimbly dodges Nike's DRAGON RAGE with an expertly timed FEINT before closing in. What it didn't account for, however, was Nike's muscled tail.

In such close proximity now, the Salazzle tail is able to deliver a powerful DOUBLE-SLAP that sends the fire monkey fleeing afterward. Remiel nods with approval when Nike turns to look at him. Then, without further delay, the pair venture deeper into the Fiery Path.

They find a crying TOXEL in an open clearing hidden amongst the canyon. They observe for a moment, waiting to see if either of its parents will appear. After some time, however, it becomes apparent that they will not. The moment Remiel steps forward, Nike rushes ahead to scoop up the Toxel into her arms.

It FLAILS in protest, striking her a few times. But after she belches up some SMOG to feed it, it relaxes. Remiel watches in disgust for a moment. When he realizes she has become attached to the baby, however, he pulls out an empty ball and taps it against the Toxel's forehead.
