with summer comes beach parties. [break][break]

and she'll admit; she doesn't hate them. the only part she hates is how the sun beats down on her pale skin, and how annoyingly susceptible she is to getting burnt. oh, woe is her. [break][break]

this time, it's a barbecue with a fun alolan spin. to her left, there's an open fire for the cooks to show off their skills with flames. to her right, are men and women dancing and tossing around flames and stakes of wood. dangerous? very. entertaining all the same? especially so. so she, like so many, dresses lightly... under the shade of an umbrella. no amount of sunscreen can save her pasty ass. [break][break]

oh well, at least she has a good show, her book of "silent blade koga", and a medium ra--[break][break]

... rare steak?[break][break]

she's supposed to, but when she looks to the paper plate that should have her meal, she finds it's gone. it's disappeared, poofed, disintegrated. well, it couldn't have gone far.[break][break]

aha! what's that over there? a puff of orange, a nickit, chowing down on her meal! "you." she calls out, scrambling out from under the umbrella, for a steak now sadly lightly coated in sand. now her target is the nickit, who so rudely stole her food. she scoops it up, furrowing her brows and grunting. [break][break]

"hasn't anyone taught you not to steal?" god, who was the trainer? shouldn't they know better?

Figures the little bastard had to scamper off right before showtime.[break][break]

Normally, he didn’t have to worry about his Pokemon running off and wreaking havoc while he was out and about— but obviously, that night was different. Toa was already out and rearing to go, just like he always was whenever his trainer decided to gear up for festivities like this. A few other Pokemon were already tending to some patrons, too (somewhere, there’d be an Aggron and Tyranitar hulking around, offering drinks in their stubby hands), but there was one Pokemon—one, goddamned thief—that apparently decided to have a moment.[break][break]

So, enter stage right: a singular Rocket (but that was a secret— hushity hush) as he jogged through the sand. He left his staves behind at the stage, but by the way he was dressed, it was more than obvious that he was part of at least one source of entertainment.[break][break]

Fuck the entertainment, though, since there were more pressing matters at hand— and ones that he found a bit too late. The familiar sight of a ginger furred creature met his eye, and as he shifted his gaze between him and the person he assumed to be personally victimized by his reign of terror, he breathed a low, growling sigh before going to pick his Pokemon up.[break][break]

”Heeeeeey, hi, so sorry about that— he started off with a faint, stressed wheeze as he squinted down at the fox he’d plucked off the ground. ”He’s a bit of a klepto— uh. I’m gonna be needed in a sec, but I can buy you another one of those if ya want, Cuz. Y’know. Least I can do—”[break][break]

and why should she be? she was just about ready to chow down on a perfectly good steak, only for a little pokemon to come at her and snatch it away? had she not known how to keep her composure, she'd let the grouchiness of the situation take over her common sense. thankfully, she doesn't, and when she sees the trainer, she pauses. [break][break]

oh, hello.[break][break]

is she admiring? yes, she is, and she will do so semi-shamelessly. at least, she stops before most people could notice. [break][break]

unfortunately, no matter how attractive someone may be, it doesn't wash away the woe she feels at wasted food - but she can't be mad at the trainer of the pokemon. so instead, the ginger woman runs her fingers through her hair, and lightly ruffles her bangs. "jeez.." she hums, blue eyes meeting the same. "don't worry about it. i can just get myself another." [break][break]

instead, she tilts her head and glances to the wooden stage set up for the event. "you won't be staying for the fire dancing, though?" she hums, her smile has turned a bit disappointed. [break][break]

"alolan dancing isn't something you see every day~."

”Nahhh, Cuz— really! On me, my treat,” he beamed with a grin, shaking his head. He gave a brief look and a furrowing of the brows towards the Nickit in his hold, gently flicking its snout (to which it gave a gentle grumble before hanging limp, disgruntled) before peering back towards her again, already beginning to coast the edge of her seat. ”C’moooon~. I ain’t takin’ no for an answer, either,” he added, beckoning her along.[break][break]

He glanced over his shoulder at the mention of the dancing, however, before turning back towards her and waving a hand again— that time in a more dismissive manner.[break][break]

”And nah, I’ll be stickin’ around. I’m actually in it,” he added. With the selfsame hand, he gestured down to his attire. ”Y’know, not like that’s obvious enough, but yeah. ”Family’s got roots in Alola, so whenever somethin’ like this comes up, I tend to lend a hand~.”[break][break]

A question he asked himself despite the fact that, in the long run, he honestly hadn’t cared. At first, he had his eyes on one thing, and one thing only: making it up to this chick. Being the very person that found himself personally terrorized and victimized by the fox in his hand (he yipped a bit more in defiance at some point, only to fall limp again at another flick), he knew how irked she probably was to be swindled.[break][break]

So he began to step off at a brisk pace at first, but upon noting her stay within her seat, he’d been swift to turn heel towards her once more; his feet dragging within the sand leisurely and somewhat aimlessly at first as he gauged her. Was she gonna get up? Follow up? Honestly, it was his intention to personally escort her along, but as she remained, and as her words passed through the nearby air, he thought on them for a moment.[break][break]

Contrasting faintly to the friendly smiles that found themselves on his face, his lips tugged a faint bit more; a lofty and toothy smirk touching down upon his expression with a sliver of amused mischief. He stopped within his tracks to eye her for a while longer, pressing his tongue against the inner wall of his cheek in thought before pacing back over.[break][break]

He crouched down beside her, raising a brow with a spark within his eye.[break][break]

”...Tell ya what, then, Cuz,” he started off. ”We can start ya off with a couple drinks, then—still my treat, still my treat—and have that ‘lil meal together once I’m done. Get ya somethin’ to sip on while ya wait for me.”[break][break]

the pokemon is a little bastard. [break][break]

but at least the trainer can read the room. this time, a soft hum leaves her lips, and the ginger-haired woman wears a more amused smile with a half-lidded glance. "y'know what?" she asks, fingers planting against the sand before she starts to slowly lift herself up with a hum "better keep your word~" [break][break]

she can't complain about a drink and a meal with a nice show, but she can compliment all of the above and some good company to end off the night. his smile is contagious, but she's good at maintaining just the right amount of coy and amusement. "you're making a good offer~" she chimes, lifting herself from the sand and properly brushing some of the grains from her skin. [break][break]

"though i don't think i can say anything to convince you to let me buy your drink?"

she'll take his hand when lifting herself up, and she'll follow him over to the bar that offers a fair amount of drinks. she initially came here without a plan in mind, but now? she has company, and a nice night of chatter ahead of her. [break][break]
