”Look, man— ya didn’t say shit about not takin’ creative liberties~!” he cackled, softening the impact with another piece of furniture as smoothly as possible before taking a pause. With light feet, he swiftly stepped off of the chair, squinting around the room before pushing the chair in another direction. ”I dunno why you’re gettin’ so hot and bothered about it when it obviously worked in your favor— like, c’mon!”[break][break]

He began to stalk quietly around the room, watching both her and the chair as he moved briskly.

A singular laugh—hearty, and bordering a roar—left his lips, all while his brows knit closer together in amusement at her touch. Hues of emerald trailed down towards her arm as it found its way around his, though, rather than prying away, he only seemed all too in favor of the development as he reached his other hand over, softly patting her while peering towards the booths she pointed out.[break][break]

For better or worse, he had his siblings and mother back home to thank for taking it in stride.[break][break]

”Maybe I’d have no complaints if ya tacked a ‘lil bonus onto my next check?” he jested, regaled as he, indeed, began to lead the way. Navigating through the currents of visitors, he shot her another look from the corner of his eye, snickering. ”Y’know. I play escort outta the goodness of my heart. He snickered, turning his attention towards the line of games again as they drew near.[break][break]

A bout of laughter had left his chest twice within the span of a short while— the first being the initial sight of the tank’s seat unhinging, and the second following the words of the self same woman who fell victim to the game, altogether. Ironically enough, too, it seemed to be MARISOL SIMONE that was the cause of his boss’ downfall, which really just made the sight before them taste all the sweeter.[break][break]

He gave her a brief look, alongside a quick, ’Still waitin’ on that second date~,’ in passing while both making a phone gesture her way, which promptly turned into a thumbs up in praise before he turned his attention towards the tank. Slipping past the front table of the game, itself, he jogged over as the carnies began to open the tank, offering a toothy grin to the person within as they met eyes.[break][break]

”See, that’s the thing, boss— I absolutely had to wait~.”[break][break]

He’d offered his hand, and it was taken before long at all could pass. A teasing wink went her way as he awaited her descent from the steps, and as one of the workers passed the other Rocket a towel, he, himself, stepped back a pace or two while waiting for her to gather her bearings and belongings before falling into stride with her.[break][break]

”I’m here on my own time, honestly— but y’know, I consider it a win. If I’d been with some buddies, I might not’ve been able to see ya take the plunge in real time~.”[break][break]

He raised his brows as his grin only broadened, all while he gave a light gesture towards her.[break][break]

Another adored attraction that came back for the summer, huh?[break]
Even if it was attached to a different event, he'd be damned if he didn't take part in it again.[break][break]

After all, the last time he'd taken a dip into the diving waters, he was only able to stop by for a couple of days before finding himself whisked into some other business for the rest of the summer. That time would be different, he'd told himself. There was much to be seen, and much to be had.[break][break]

Honestly speaking, by the time he found his way into the game's line, he'd already found himself moderately preoccupied. Between the games set up all throughout the carnival grounds, alongside the numerous food stalls lining each and every area for those present to indulge within, there were a number of things within his hands and arms, alike. Food, prizes— whatever a person could think of, he had at least a piece of it.[break][break]

He'd barely managed to polish of a skewer of meat by the time he reached the front of the line, finally noticing and recognizing the person atop the seat before a toothy grin surfaced upon his lips. While nibbling upon the stick that remained between them, he lifted a hand to wave towards the tank.[break][break]

"Hey, boss! Fancy seein' you here~!"[break][break]

Such a casual and friendly comment spoken, only to be immediately succeeded by a vigorous attempt to knock the casino owner down.[break][break]

”...Nothin’, cuz~.” A betrayal of genuine, internal thought and expression had been what left his lips at the display before him. Only a soft sigh left his lips at the notion—but even then, it could be mistaken for something akin to amusement, rather than exasperation—as he reached down for another plushie.[break][break]

A smirk tugged upon his lips as he clearly began to wind up, as if giving the man a moment to realize and adjust, before chucking the toy clear at him.[break][break]

Although he had a hunch of what her response would be, nothing would be able to stop the sheer exasperation from the groan that left his chest following it. Just when it hadn’t seemed possible for him to fall any limper, he did just that as he hung from nothing save for the Psychic energy that ferried him across the shoreline.[break][break]

It was a weird display, honestly, to see him weakly flailing through the journey.[break][break]

The general saving grace had been how he eventually, indeed, hit the waters with an unceremonious splash— and all while an incomprehensible mass of complaints and murmurs found themselves abruptly ended by a loud gurgle as he briefly submerged beneath the waters. While the waters were shallow enough to sit back up immediately, he just…laid there.[break][break]

Holding his breath. Waiting for the tide and incoming waves.[break][break]

When it did, he just washed back onto the shore, sweeping beneath and past the Metagross and its trainer to lay upon the sands behind them and finally take a breath.[break][break]

For a while longer, he considered her with a spark of both amusement and curiosity, alike, within his eyes before leaning forward slightly for the simple sake of gaining a better view of his menu. Hues of emerald skimmed the texts with a calm leisure as he flipped through the pages—once, twice—before ultimately settling on a rather common go-to of his. Seemingly impeccable timing, as well, as he found himself meeting eyes with their waiter for the night once he’d finally closed his own menu.[break][break]

He handed it off to their caretaker while ordering a Unovan strip steak for himself— though not without sides of salad and garlic parmesan roasted potatoes to go alongside it.[break][break]

”...For the record, though, I ain’t joking~,” he added before long, trailing a gaze after the waiter as they departed before looking towards the woman seated across from him once more. ”I consider honesty charming. It’s just real easy to get along with people that speak their mind honestly and confidently, ain’t it~? Don’t gotta worry about stuff to hide.”

He made an exaggerated gesture towards his own cards, knocking his knuckles against the surface by them before sweeping them up and joining them with the rest of the deck.[break][break]

A hearty bark of a laugh left his chest, only followed by a faintly growling sigh of exasperation and amusement, alike, as he gathered the remaining cards from the other players. Settling them within their deck, he scoped out the chips cast out by the players—though not without offering the sprightly gambler before him a risen brow of inquiry, almost as if asking, Really, now? in a silent notion—before tapping the device by him.[break][break]

”...Ain’t like it’s any point to me, though, I guess. I get paid either way,” he added, a sudden leisureness within his tone in lieu of the complaints he’d voiced only seconds prior. ”Y’all are the ones playin’ yourselves for better or for worse~.”

Just like it was normal to dwindle between highs and lows in life, to win and lose in his line of work was also a commonplace idea— and with profits coming his way so long as he was on the clock, it never really mattered what sort of hand he ended up with. He looked across the rest of the table before his brows knitted in disbelief and amusement alike, and with an air of resignation, he clicked his tongue a few times before flicking his hand towards the chips.[break][break]

”All fuckin’ yours, buddy,” he mused, pressing his tongue against the inner wall of his cheek before gathering the cards. ”Can’t believe there wasn’t at least a single straight on the table— fuckin’ A, man~...”

Not that the hit part of it was anything too bad, honestly— not when the end goal was to make it to the water, altogether. For a moment, he tensed up on instinct once the sheen of blue enveloped his form, and he only made short work of shifting and flailing before realizing what was happening. His fight or flight instinct lulled as quickly as it was triggered, leaving him breathing a deep sigh and letting the Metagross carry him across as he just…laid there. Limply. He looked towards his other belongings in passing, tossing anything and everything else he wouldn’t want in the water before waving his hand at the surfboard he’d also brought along, still leaned against the chair he’d claimed for himself.[break][break]
