it's hot. [break][break]

way too hot; ariadne feels like she's about to melt. the summer heat has hit her immediately, mercilessly, and the woman can feel the beads of sweat dripping from the top of her head. she reaches, lazily, for a water bottle, only to find it sad, and empty, and realize that she had already drank from it. [break][break]

what does a woman have to do to get some water? nevermind that she's at a pool, and not.. actually in the water right now. she thinks that she has the best reason to not get in the pool; the main one being she can't see. that'd stop her from swimming properly, if she remembered how to. [break][break]

the breeze from the ocean doesn't help - it makes it worse when the humidity starts to weigh down on her skin. the woman groans softly, sitting up on her towel, now to hug her knees to her chest. perhaps listening to the sounds of people walking on the beach, or minding their own businesses, can distract her from this sweltering heat. [break][break]

fat chance. [break][break]

"god, arceus, please god i beg you." she throws her body back, sighing when hitting the towel on the warm sand. [break][break]

"save me, i'm going to melt.."

Fuck the rest of the season, too, while we’re at it, honestly.[break][break]

Because in the grand scheme of things, yeah— on some level, he actually thrived in the heat. Whereas other people preferred fall and winter to the rest of the seasons, summer was admittedly his favored one of the fourfold group. Did it make a lot of his hobbies easier to do? Absolutely. You think he’s gonna go surfing in the deep depths of winter, after all?[break][break]

…Well, maybe, but that was beside the point.[break][break]

Regardless, despite his affinities, it was just hot. As. Shit. Like, take a dip into Satan’s asscrack and amplify that shit by at least five, brother— ’cause damn if summertime wasn’t harsh in Hoenn. So, naturally, in the light of temperatures akin to places where the sun never shone, there was one obvious solution:[break][break]

Get some water and cool down. Simple enough.[break][break]

So he grabbed his things and Pokemon (the ones that wanted to tag along, at least) before heading off to the beach (beach!), making quick work of getting through the gates and scoping a chair out for himself. He tossed his bag onto it before sitting down with an exasperated sigh, immediately sending his Pokemon out and letting them get comfortable in the water before spotting a certain someone.[break][break]

As if a gremlin tore its way into the depths of his soul and claimed it as its own possession, he grinned a slow, yet toothy grin while tapping his Marshtomp before it scampered off.[break][break]

”Oi. Buddy.”[break][break]

He earned a quick noise in inquiry and curiosity before nodding towards the woman afar.[break][break]

”Go give our friend a ‘lil greetin’, yeah~?”[break][break]

And greet did he do— in the form of a Surf from the edge of the poolside, if it could even be called one.[break]
Really, it was just a quick, small raise of water that was flung towards the fellow Rocket, but hey.[break][break]

she's born and raised alolan - make no mistake. it's just that it's been so long since she's been in alola, and the last time she was anywhere? was in sinnoh, where the winters were cold and the summers were tropical at best. she's grown accustomed to the cold and, if she isn't careful, she thinks she might just get heatstroke. [break][break]

was there anyone? anyone at all? to save her from this sweltering heat? oh, woe is she, for the sun would blind her-- oh, right. the downside to this is that it makes her skin so much more sensitive, so the battering of the rays on each inch of her body was a sore reminder. "this is why i prefer winter.." she grumbles at a metagross, who sits in the sand with a complaining trainer. she doesn't expect it to return the sentiment. [break][break]

she expects to shrivel up like a raisin in this heat. [break][break]

maybe heading out was a bad idea? but the occasional breeze was so nice. she's just about to lift herself onto the towel, when the gods finally answer her plea... in the form of a wave crashing against her side. "WHAT THE FU--" then over her face. [break][break]

the latter prompts her to jerk and immediately sit up, coughing out the salt water. her immediate reaction was drowned out, but the follow up had her immediately reach to the arm of the metagross. more to stabilize herself. "who the fuck?" she coughs out, after finally pulling herself together. [break][break]

now she's drenched, but the summer sun will probably dry her out quickly.

He watched as his Marshtomp approached and followed through, absentmindedly leaning forward where he sat in anticipation before a cackle left his lips.[break][break]

”Suhhh, Cuz~,” he snickered, plucking his towel from his bag. ”That’d be me, yeah. Hi~.”[break][break]

He strode over a few paces before tossing the cloth her way, grinning still as he crouched in front of her.[break][break]

”Saw ya layin’ there while I was walkin’ in. Figured we should say hi, and all~.”[break][break]

Hues of emerald lingered upon her for a few more moments before shifting towards the selfsame creature that the other Rocket leaned against for support. Despite the way he’d made his entrance (and, y’know, the outright rudeness of it), he gave a leisurely wave to the Metagross in a more civil form of greeting.[break][break]

”I’d say I’m surprised to see ya guys here, but y’know, I’d be lyin’.” He glanced towards his Marshtomp for a moment, and—upon noting the questioning and slightly impatient look he was given—gave him a grin and a laugh before nodding towards the pool in dismissal.[break][break]

He watched as the creature gave a cry of glee and affirmation alike before bolting into the waters to join his other companions.[break][break]

”It’s hot as shit, man… Ain’t as bad as last year, but fuck me, dude.”

the towel is tossed her way, and unceremoniously thrown into her face. she doesn't realize this until it lightly slaps her, and she sputters in response before the cloth falls into her hands. she doesn't realize it, but she's pouting as her hands gently take her tied up hair to gently wring and wipe and squeeze the droplets out. she doesn't appreciate it, and sarcasm is her second language. [break][break]

if she could see his dumb face, she'd try to throw the towel back - but the location of his voice isn't good enough an indicator. "you're so damn lucky i don't know where you are~.." the water stops dripping from her hair by the time she lowers the towel back to her lap. instead, the damp cloth is used to cool her thighs. [break][break]

"what are you doing on the sand?" she cocks her head to the side, humming softly as she starts to lean back, planting the palms of her hand against the towel on the beach. it's not like him to stick around like this when the sound of waves crashes not too far away from them. [break][break]

"i thought you'd already be surfing, or swimming~" she chuckles, and crosses her legs idly. it's a given that he'd surf, right? he's so in touch with his alolan roots, after all.

she doesn't even know what he looks like. not fully, at least. he has a nice voice and a pleasant tone, but that's about all she can discern. that, and he has a certain vibe and air around him that makes her want to kick up the sand right up into his face. she would now, if she didn't run the risk of the grains flying into other people's eyes. or mouths. [break][break]

she doesn't need eyes anymore when she raises a hand and tilts her head towards the metagross that's found rest on the sand. "well, ya greeted me and cooled me off." she chimes, as her metagross envelops the trainer in a case of blue to lift her, and onto the top of its head.[break][break]

when she's adjusted, the eyes glow blue, as do hers a soft red when her eyelids open with an adjusted smile to her lips.[break][break]

"but don't test me~."[break][break]

a warning, of sorts. she doesn't expect him to heed it.

He hadn’t expected the term of endearment, despite the person before him being who she was, but the pleasantries amidst surprises were still more than appreciated. A single, cackling laugh escaped him as he beat a hand against his heart, leaning back slightly and pursing his lips in faux skepticism and amusement, alike.[break][break]

If you’re gonna call me that, you’re really just threatenin’ me with a good time, y’know that~?” he shot back, clicking his tongue softly in rapid concession as an intonation wove its way between his words. she's only half joking with the same, amused grin on her lips. [break][break]

but the flirtatious threats won't do anything, not when he's so eager to be a little shit. so lowering a hand, she lightly taps the top of the metagross' head. a blue glow from the eyes of PSYCHIC form around the man who's so overconfident, lifting his body off the ground before beginning to hover towards the ocean. [break][break]

ariadne could say something. [break][break]

but the closer they get to the ocean, the more she smiles.

Not that the hit part of it was anything too bad, honestly— not when the end goal was to make it to the water, altogether. For a moment, he tensed up on instinct once the sheen of blue enveloped his form, and he only made short work of shifting and flailing before realizing what was happening. His fight or flight instinct lulled as quickly as it was triggered, leaving him breathing a deep sigh and letting the Metagross carry him across as he just…laid there. Limply. In the air.[break][break]

He looked towards his other belongings in passing, tossing anything and everything else he wouldn’t want in the water before waving his hand at the surfboard he’d also brought along, still leaned against the chair he’d claimed for himself.[break][break]

”Ooooooi,” he whined, flicking his hand all the quicker at the board, ”can ya at least get my board if you’re gonna be throwin’ me in, Cuz? I don’t wanna have to walk all the way back here to get it—”

but the tone of his voice is more than enough to bring a smile to her lips. she can see the fuzzy image of a man flicking his finger, and she can only imagine the facial expression he's wearing. she snickers instead, idling on the head of the metagross that casually hovers across the sand. [break][break]

she half-jests, and still hums all the same as they approach the water. the man was limp, but that doesn't stop the metagross from lifting him up into the air, a bit above the water (so he doesn't get hurt; ariadne is a bitch and not a monster) before he's unceremoniously dropped.

Although he had a hunch of what her response would be, nothing would be able to stop the sheer exasperation from the groan that left his chest following it. Just when it hadn’t seemed possible for him to fall any limper, he did just that as he hung from nothing save for the Psychic energy that ferried him across the shoreline.[break][break]

It was a weird display, honestly, to see him weakly flailing through the journey.[break][break]

The general saving grace had been how he eventually, indeed, hit the waters with an unceremonious splash— and all while an incomprehensible mass of complaints and murmurs found themselves abruptly ended by a loud gurgle as he briefly submerged beneath the waters. While the waters were shallow enough to sit back up immediately, he just…laid there.[break][break]

Holding his breath. Waiting for the tide and incoming waves.[break][break]

When it did, he just washed back onto the shore, sweeping beneath and past the Metagross and its trainer to lay upon the sands behind them and finally take a breath.[break][break]

”Not coooooool...” he whined aloud, sprawling out on his back.
