paranoia settles first, then pain... until anguish is second nature in the mind. she hisses through as walls begin to reflect a heartbeat all around them.

and if she looks beyond, the stars twinkle in space's expanses as if encouraging them to continue.

unfortunately, they're not alone.

threats begin to materialize and she's gasping, soft puffs of healing mist beginning to escape from her mouth. she tries to gather the mist together with her free hand, wafting it toward eva and herself.

It’s no different than last time, but it doesn’t make it any less unpleasant. She barely feels the painful tightening of Illeana’s hand around hers as she tenses to deal with the paranoia that descends.

Her partner’s healing mist dulls the sharp edges of the poison’s blade, "Thank you," but the pressure remains. Her head pounds in sync with the pulses of noxious energy. Her gaze catches the flash of purple as Poipole buzzes into their space. A flash of light erupts from her free hand. A Zarude charges, it’s HAMMER ARM knocking back the insect effortlessly. Its fists drive into the crystalized ground. Unnatural root sprout and JUNGLE HEALING engulfs them to help provide some relief against the mental onslaught.

and in between healing efforts on both fronts, she swears she hears the faint call of the ocean. the rolling of waves, the sound of them crashing ashore.

it's not real, she tells herself, as a flash of her alternate self dances in and out of her peripheral vision.

"eva."

her voice is strained, fearful.

it's not real, she tries again. the flash becomes more pronounced - more tangible.

and she can't disprove the water saw that whips between them, slicing through air in an attempt to split them apart.

"you see her too... right?"

Eva has done this dance before. This is neither of their first times in this strange place but it still penetrates their souls and extracts what it is looking for. This time, it focuses on Illeana’s insecurities.

It’s hard to ignore the sharp scent of salt in the air. The professor’s jaw tenses as it clamps shut. Her emerald eyes, wild with adrenaline, snaps towards the fleeting vision of an Illeana that wasn’t hers.

“Yes,” naturally, her voice drips with contempt. Her head rocks towards to vision and the Zarude strikes, lashing out at the alternate Illie with thick vines. She screams as she’s buried and BOUND beneath a bed of foliage.

[attr="class","illeana i"]limbs, muscles, and bones feel stuck - kept in place and slowly turning to stone.

she stares, wide eyed, as eva and her pokemon work to subdue her alternate self.

and she can feel eyes on her - dozens and dozens of unblinking things burning holes in her body. everywhere she could possibly turn, they would follow. always watching, always waiting... always hungry - insatiable.

the scream from her counterpart worms its way right down to the depths of her soul. her hands rise and clamp onto her ears, expression twisting with something indiscernible - is it pain? fear? something else entirely?

her feet slowly, painstakingly, unroot themselves from their spot on the chamber floor and she retreats backwards as if it'll stop - it won't, it can't. faintly, she hears her mined minerals clink against the floor. she does not bother to retrieve them.

"can we go? please?"

she doesn't sound like herself and she knows it. more a shell than a person, she seeks reprieve from it all - the radiation, the consequences of her own actions, and herself.
