“You’re as cre-” His mouth is stuffed full of pineapple flavored cotton candy. Chewing it over, he wolfs the stuff down, huffing at the strange texture. The flavor is just as odd. Navy’s not much for tradition, but he sticks to the classic flavors for things. Bubblegum cotton candy, pepperoni pizza, apples in his salad. All three are made worse by the dreaded pineapple.[break][break]
“Ack.” The sheriff coughs, wagging his tongue. Luckily he’s got a flask filled with water. It washes the taste out of his mouth. Having a look around, he takes in their surroundings. The fair is in town. Johanna Joy’s little pet project, brought to life. They’re surrounded by smiling faces. Hipsters and old folk alike swarm the old school stands. It’s a rare moment of peace.[break][break]
Rare, because inevitably they’re no more than a few months away from another big battle with Team Rocket.[break][break]
“I’m not sayin’ your methods aren’t creative…just ‘member next time it could be dumb kids instead of Rockets.” A warning for himself as much as for the woman beside him. Even here, in a place of peace, he carries six of his best Pokemon. He makes a show of always being ready for battle. It puts the townsfolk around him at ease. Many wave to him and the ranger.[break][break]
“Man…a full on carnival. Haven’t been to one of these since I was a little kid.” He smiles at the memory. “Ever been to one of these before, ‘Suna? Got any favorite rides?”

It’s all in good fun. Some men act like Christmas Cakes are past their expiration date, but Navy holds true to one hard, fast belief: women age like wine. Well, until they curdle like milk.[break][break]
The metaphor needs some work, just like a bumper car they pass on the way out of the fair grounds. If there’s a gang of roaming, angry Fighting Pokemon outside town, they’ll need to deal with that. Frankly, he prefers that to any of the other million and a half insidious things that plague Dewford in a given month. Primeapes fighting for territory almost feels…[break][break]

“Hold up a min. This won’t take long.” It’s not his job to do this. He’s a sheriff, not a mechanic, but he’s good with machines. They sing for his touch. Navy was born with the right kind of brain for this sort of thing. Technology is the anathema of some men, but not him.[break][break]
“Seriously though, it’s hard for me to get comfortable with all this carnival stuff. Makes me feel…edgy.” He’d have never second-guessed how he worded that, were it not for the hipsters that haunt this town. “On edge. You’ve been here for a while, yeah? The region ebbs and flows like a tide.”[break][break]
The smoke’s stopped. Sheriff Navidson makes for a passing mechanic. The carnie thanks him profusely. Navy waves the man off.[break][break]
“Bottom line is that this island isn’t big enough for two gangs.” He says, speaking both to their present issue and the omnipresent conflict that has defined his homeland for six long years.
