Then she figures that even if he isn't, whoever thought it must still be pretty close. "I got you out of the mirror house and I can put you back."[break][break]

And where he figures she might be shaken by his SICK FISHING SKILLS, Howard really needs to know that Eris is that kid that reckons everyone has a hidden talent. His is just one that doesn't need to remain hidden in this exact situation, especially if she gets to grab a few plushies that she wants.[break][break]

He pops off, gaining more points than she's ever seen anyone gain at this game. The carnies present are mortified, discussions hurriedly held under their breath as they panic over how to handle this. But Eris knows what must be done, taking a deep breath as she places a hand on his shoulder and smiles.[break][break]

Being threatened with the hall of mirrors was the carnival equivalent of threatened with being put up against a firing squad and shot a dozen times. It was likely the best threat Eris could conjure up at that precise moment. Nothing could hit harder. It was a critical hit against Howard's emotional trauma at that precise moment.

At least, that was what should've happened.

Instead, Eris elected to beat Howard's emotional kneecaps in with an emotionally charged steel chair: getting banned from the Funtasia.

As if by instinct, Howard's back straightened up as he caught the last Magikarp. As he twitched, he flung his fishing rod into the sky, and the Magikarp it was connected to flew alongside it. Clatter. The fishing rod landed by the vendor's foot, who looked stupified.

Howard slowly turned towards Eris. "N-now, little lady... Don't say that. What about getting banned why would yousaythatIwouldgetbannedI'vedonenothingwrongpleasedon'ttellanyone..." Howard's face became paler and paler as his voice grew quieter and faster.

Meanwhile, in the background, Howard's perfect score jumped to the top of the leaderboard.

Well, at least Eris would win her prize, right? Howard pointed at the plush he wanted, as if in a haze.

She pats him on the back once more, nodding quietly as if she'd just heard something really important. His aversion to getting banned seems to be far more deep-rooted for it to just be a single incident. And yet, it isn't her place nor responsibility to go prying or solving his issues.[break][break]

"I'll grab... the Calico one!"[break][break]

As the carnie comes around, they seem rather nervous to step anywhere near howard slayte, rushing to hand her the prize before zipping back to safety. And the Magikarp so unceremoniously tossed from its tank is thrown back into the water, diving right to the furthest corner as tales of the menace begin to spread amongst its kin. Eris, on the other hand, is probably seen as the most insane kid to be anywhere near this man, her arms wrapped around the colourful Magikarp as she smiles at him.[break][break]

"Well Mister, our deals all done now! Don't go getting yourself in trouble anymore, or you're really gonna get thrown out."

"Y-yes. Of course. Thank you, little lady." Howard nodded nervously, before noticing the game vendor reach into his pocket and pull out a phone. The archaeologist paled as the color drained from his face, turning him into a paleontologist. "I hope you enjoy your plush, little lady." Howard took a knee to give the child a smile, and he gave her Luxray a salute.

At that moment, all Howard could think about was sliding into an alleyway to hide. "So long, little lady. Thank you for your help!"

With that, the archaeologist quickly disappeared into the maze of stalls at the Funtasia. What a strange encounter.
