Topher was taken aback the moment that she chose to drag him away from the game. The pair weaved and bobbed their way through the crowd, the only sounds Topher properly registered were that of an excited child who managed to win the big prize at the Magikarp fishing game. After that, all he could hear was his heartbeat in his head. The moment that Camellia asked him to tell her what he'd said, he felt like he was going to throw up. He was left shaken up and afraid to repeat himself.

But it was her who asked, so he couldn't just deny her the answer she so desperately wanted to hear.

"I said that I think I'm in love with you," he echoed. "I'm sorry I said it, but I don't regret it. I think..."

It felt so difficult to explain his thoughts and feelings in such a careful way. His eyes wandered everywhere but at the woman across from him. He couldn't bring himself to look at her whether it was out of shame or fear. Finally he steeled his nerves and sucked in a breath. He knew he owed her an explanation as best as he could offer.

"I think that's why I'm so jealous, so eager to be by your side," he began. "I might not be in love with you, but I can definitely feel myself falling."

With that finally offered out in the open, Topher covered his face with both hands and groaned into them, frustrated with himself. Why did he have to have such a big mouth in sensitive situations like this?

Before they'd gotten settled to talk, Camellia had ordered some food because quite frankly, she didn't know if the rising nausea she felt was from her nerves or hunger. Maybe both. Unfortunately, there was nothing really light at the fair, so she made do with a burger and fries.[break][break]

She just picked around what she wanted, offering food to Topher as well.[break][break]

However, as he admitted his feelings, or what he believed to be his feelings, she listened silently, her gaze fixated on the plate. Yeah, maybe she wasn't actually hungry, after all. She forced down the bite she'd taken, drinking some water.[break][break]

What to say. What to do. This wasn't their silent agreement. Romance had to be out of the question, especially for the crime syndicate. What would happen if this burned out? They were leaders of their respective groups.[break][break]

They couldn't do this. Right?[break][break]

"Topher, are you sure that's what you're feeling?" Camellia asked, grasping at straws in a desperate attempt to save their working relationship while she could.[break][break]

But her heart said otherwise.[break][break]

With a quick, heavy, annoyed sigh, Camellia grabbed him by the back of his neck, pulling him in and kissing him again. Because, fuck the syndicate. Fuck the world.[break][break]

"What the hell are you doing to me?" she whispered when she parted from him.

The way she practically pulled him across the table struck fear into him. Maybe he should have just brushed the topic aside, maybe he should have just kept quiet about what he felt, or at least thought he felt. Maybe--

His thoughts were immediately put on hold the moment he felt soft lips against his own. A slight twinge of salt from the fries a notable taste on her lips. Topher couldn't help but sigh into the gesture, relieved and rejuvenated with a sense of hope. It took him a moment to open his eyes once more as he nearly followed Camellia's lips as she pulled back. A whine almost slipped past his lips, but soon died in his throat the moment she spoke to him. His hand reached over the table to rest upon her own as they hooked around to hold her hand.

"The same thing you're doing to me -- I've become obsessed, and I don't want to let you go," he breathed out.

Butterflies swarmed in his stomach in that moment as his heartbeat almost felt like it was in his throat. This wasn't panic, it was pure, unadulterated bashfulness. What was he supposed to do or say now? He'd poured his heart out and was left with an unspoken promise. Topher didn't feel ashamed, he felt reassured if anything. But it didn't stop how nervous he felt. In an attempt to calm his nerves, he ate some of the food that Camellia had offered to him. It's a shame he wasn't that hungry either. But still, a few bites didn't hurt. It was good food.

But there was no need to sit there any longer, right? They'd said what needed to be said, and it's not like the feelings were solidifed completely. But it was a foreign feeling to Topher himself, and no doubt even more foreign to Camellia. Something the two would have to work through. He stood up and took the tray of food over to the trash to dump it. Maybe it wouldn't hurt to roll with these feelings and let them free. They had the rest of the night, tomorrow, and the day after that -- several tomorrows that they could continue to allow these feelings to manifest.

"Let's try the ring toss game again, huh? You really seemed to have your eyes on that Linoone."

ARCEUS, this was becoming a lot more complicated than it was originally supposed to be. Camellia found herself reaching to hold onto that hand he gave to her, not wanting to let go of it. The thought of having Topher as her one and only was entrancing. It was a dream she was holding onto.[break][break]

But that also meant that her freedom was going to be torn away from her. No matter how much she cared about him, was she willing to part ways with her old methods?[break][break]

That, she couldn't give an answer to him yet.[break][break]

Instead of dwelling on it further, Camellia nodded. "Let's go. I'm not going to leave without winning something."[break][break]

And win she did. Without the blurting of his confession, Camellia was able to land all the rings in the appropriate spots, giving her access to the plushies on the wall. She grabbed the LINOONE, stroking the soft fuzz on it.[break][break]

"It reminded me of yours."

Topher couldn't help but examine the Linoone she'd won. With a quick up and down, he knelt to face the creature and soon gave a laugh. Plush or not, it was still pretty cute. He gave the plush a few strokes on the head and hummed in amusement. The black and white stripes were none too dissimilar to those of a Galarian Linoone but there was still something that didn't seem right about it.

"Well at least this one isn't trying to lap at our faces like a dog," he laughed.

That was it. It wasn't a rabid goofball like his own Linoone. But heck, why not? It was still cute. Topher stood back up to full height and decided to give another go of his own. At least his mind wasn't racing, so he could concentrate a bit better. With a deep breath, he took the first ring and threw it. It managed to hook onto one of the Dugtrio somehow. Another toss, and he caught it onto another one. With the final ring, he steadied himself and gave one final toss. It managed to loop right on and Topher pumped his fist a tiny bit to show how excited he was to win.

Without hesitation, he chose another Linoone and moved it to gently tap its nose against the plush Camellia held onto. With a charming smile, he looked up from their matching plushes and met her gaze.

"So the two of them don't have to be alone or apart."

Maybe he was projecting, but it sounded cute to him. At least they had something to show for the carnival games.

"We still have two other games to try, unless you've had your fill," he offered. "I'm good to go whenever you are."

Camellia was going to offer her plushie to him, since Topher had given her the LITWICK one earlier. However, he had seemed determined to win one of his own. So she held it in her arms, giving him a small clap and smile when he won.[break][break]

He was really a dork when he wasn't working.[break][break]

"Right. I suppose that means we'll have to take turns keeping them," Camellia said, raising her brows at him.[break][break]

It was beginning to get later in the day, and the sun was beginning to set. Her drive for the carnival fun was extinguished with the emotional rollercoaster they'd been on.[break][break]

"Let's run by the souvenir booth before we head out. But I'm good to leave."
