[attr="class","inner-finally"]It'd be wild if she missed a chance to explore whilst she still could, even wilder if she refused the opportunity to grab stories lesser known and attempt to write them all down into her most cherished notebook. A promise is a promise, lasting through space and time even if only one is left to fulfill it. And so she's here, observing the pale colours that illuminate the sky, watching her feet lest the ground beneath her give way to the steepest drops into a large crater.[break][break]

Reiner holds tight to her arm, constantly checking their surroundings for danger as he leads the way forwards. And he'll check in with the pixie lazing on his head every so often, the duo communicating in low grunts and bursts of emotions about... whatever it is they must be talking about.[break][break]

"Do you think we should try grabbing some samples from those weird plants?" A small suggestion that arises from her need to understand the rules of this strange land, but it's quickly shot down by the look that Reiner gives her. "Okay, once we figure out whether the plants are safe?"

The jungles of the ULTRA CRATER come alive with the sound of squawking birds and the thunderous snapping of tree branches. A fearsome torrent of fire paints the sky like a firework before sweeping across and lighting trees aflame. Then, suddenly, a loud and ferocious roar echoes through the rolling hills and into the deep craters pockmarking this land.

And, just as suddenly, a GARCHOMP and its black-haired rider burst out from that thick green labyrinth in flight. It's Remiel Calcifet and DAMKINA, a Garchomp of legend among dragon enthusiasts globally. And, hot on their heels, covered in thorns and vines and some kind of strange fungi, is a dragon larger than most and Remiel's latest project:

TURANDOT.

✨ ♀ Turandot the Charizard (Blaze): Inferno, Counter, Metal Claw, Dragon Dance, Dragon Tail, Thunder Punch

Though exiting the jungle has granted them enough space to create a considerable distance, the SHINY CHARIZARD continues to incessantly give chase. Remiel might have steered his Garchomp even further to exhaust the dragon queen, but instead he brings it to a stop at the bewildering sight of Eris Halla in this dangerous realm.

"Eris?! Reiner?! What are you two doing here?" He exclaims as Damkina descends. Once the Garchomp has landed on all fours on the grassy plain below, he turns over his shoulder to see how much closer the Charizard has gotten before continuing. "You both need to evacuate right now. Something is wrong with Turandot. The jungle, it—"

Sparked a hidden rage? Consumed her? Turned her against him? He wasn't sure. Perhaps all of those things.

"It's bad."

[attr="class","inner-finally"]A Garchomp majestically crashing out of the forest with an angry Charizard on its tail? And she's sure that they're dragons that she could never mistake for another. When she'd been taught to watch how the birds fly, Eris was pretty sure that this wasn't quite what her mother had in mind.[break][break]

In the face of absolute danger, Reiner doesn't need to be told twice, instinctively pulling his ward right onto his back before making a run for it. Perhaps he even expects Remiel Calcifet to follow, to guide them through this labyrinth of unascertained threats after unceremoniously dragging them into this chase of life and death. Mesprit, on the other hand, is far beyond thrilled by this turn of events, squealing and cheering as they begin to lift rocks in their surroundings.[break][break]

"Have you not tried recalling her??" She has to yell above the whooshing of rocks, boulders haphazardly thrown at their pursuer in hopes of slowing her down. "Did you feed her something weird?!"

The sight of MESPRIT is an astonishing one, to say the least. Eris hadn't told him about the faerie personally, after all. All he'd heard were rumours and hearsay in connection to something about 'seals' and 'chosen ones'.

But, needless to say, there were slightly more pressing matters afoot. Though he's on the precipice of explaining himself to the young girl, Remiel decides to simply show her since Turandot is drawing closer with each second. The royal unclips her Luxury Ball from his belt with practiced swiftness before casting it in the dragon's direction.

The Charizard comes to a sharp stop in the air before pivoting her body around and swinging her tail. She strikes the Luxury Ball so hard this time that it shatters into pieces before their very eyes.

"Tch..." Remiel clicks. That was the only extra ball he had on his person. It seemed there were only two options now: withstand her assault until whatever was affecting her simply went away or... battle her into submission.

"There was something in the jungle... a GIANT CARNIVINE, I think. It spat something onto her and now she's in a rage." He explains, watching as Damkina glides forward to hold the Charizard off with a powerful DUAL CHOP.

Looking over at Eris, he raises a brow. The exiled prince supposed he should continue to shoo her away. But he knew she likely wouldn't either. "Got any ideas?"

Whatever that Carnivine spewed, is it poison? Her first choice is to call upon her Comfey, giving Chloris a moment to take in the situation before she releases waves of calming Aromatherapy.[break][break]

"Not really? If it ain't poison, then I guess we gotta think a bit more??"

Damkina SNEEZES when she catches a whiff of the AROMATHERAPY coming their way. Turandot, in the meantime, takes a deep inhale of the pink breeze with her large nostrils... before snorting all of it out with one powerful blow. The sickly complexion of her scales seems to slowly dissipate, but it soon becomes clear that the unbridled rage within her eyes has only grown stronger as a result.

The black Charizard's throat glows a deep orange as she rears her head back. Then, with a ferocious roar, she unleashes an INFERNO from her mouth that forces his Garchomp to DIG for cover. The blast strikes a nearby boulder instead, sending rubble into the sky before it rains down.

Meanwhile, Remiel considers Eris' words with a stressed sigh. What else could they do? What hadn't he thought about? It was unusual to see Turandot like this without a clear aggressor present. Even as an adolescent, the Charizard wasn't one to provoke fights. In fact, she'd been oddly sweet. It was the reason he'd chosen her to overcome his fears of the species.

✨ MEMORY

TURANDOT the CHARMELEON was having a rough time adjusting to life in the CALCIFET DRACIARY. It was as feisty and combative as any other, but its small stature did not do it any favors against the other dragons in the carefully constructed habitat. What it needed was a space to call its own for a little while. And, perhaps, a little push from its trainer to evolve it.

"The solitary pens are all booked. 'Fraid we can't spare any for a while either, on account of it being hatchling season." The caretaker expresses as they observe the fiery reptile from afar. "She might survive on her own through winter... but don't you think she'd be better off with you, Master Calcifet?"

Remiel Calcifet ponders his caretaker's words for a moment as he observes the Charmeleon pick at the scraps of a GOGOAT that BLACKJAW had killed. He wants to see a dragon there. A creature with just as much potential as his greatest. But, in the end, all he sees is what it might grow up to be: the very thing that murdered his father without hesitation.

"She stays here," The prince responds. "The trials ahead will teach her to be self-sufficient."

"Eh... but sir, she—"

"That's enough. Just contact me if there's an emergency."

And, as the two men begin to leave, the Charmeleon looks over just in time to make eye contact with her captor. The silent interaction between the two is short but filled with a myriad of communication. Before the Charmeleon can close the distance, however, the black-haired prince departs.

"She's normally not like this..." Remiel adds as he shifts back to the present. "But your AROMATHERAPY seemed to do something." Shifting his gaze over to MESPRIT, he pauses for a moment to think before continuing.

"Might Mesprit pick up on something? It is the BEING OF EMOTION after all, isn't it?" He asks.

[attr="class","inner-finally"]To refuse the aid of the Aromatherapy means something has grabbed ahold of Turandot's conscious deeper down. And all there is in the moment is explosive fury, a temperament so sharp that even Mesprit seems to balk. There's nothing else to be siphoned from this messy pile of emotions, only a frown that tugs at Eris' lips as she looks to Remiel Calcifet.[break][break]

"I don't know. I don't always understand them." She murmurs, uncertainty prickling at her chest at just what the pixie is capable of. But an idea is shared between them: Mesprit raises an arm towards Turandot and breathes out as they try to Calm her Mind.[break][break]

"Call out to her."[break][break]

It's naught but the words of a naive child raised on kindly fairytales.[break][break]

"If it's not her, then she's in there somewhere, sleeping." Her fingers entangle themselves with Reiner's mane, a gesture easily hidden under her sleeves. "Call out to her and bring her back."

The human to Pokémon relationship with complex entities such as legendaries always seemed to thread the same line in one way or another. By nature, their immense power and history almost made them alien to everyone else. So, needless to say, Remiel did not doubt or look down upon Eris when she stated having the inability to reliably understand Mesprit. It was expected.

Despite that, the young girl convinces the faerie to reach out from a distance and try to help the rampaging Charizard see some reason. As Damkina plays a dangerous game of whack-a-mole with the dragon, poking her head out from the ground at different intervals to goad its attention, the Mesprit suddenly finds herself deep in a storm of fury.

✨ MEMORY

The CALCIFET ESTATE is abuzz with the sound of construction. The large gate at the front of a dome structure to the north of the property is being bolted into place. "Just puttin' the finishing touches on her now, Master Calcifet," The draciary hand says, wiping the sweat off his brow with a wrinkled old rag. "And, ah, look: my boys are bringing her in now."

Remiel turns to regard the scene: two men carrying an unconscious and battle-scarred Charmeleon on a stretcher it is tied to. Using a Pokeball of some sort might have injured her further after she'd been nearly torn apart by his Tyrantrum, so this was the safest way. Even so... despite the trauma he'd faced at the claws and teeth of a GIGANTAMAX CHARIZARD, seeing Turandot like this was no pleasure at all.

"We're lucky to have reached her when we did. She put up a good fight; managed to scorch a few scales off, no doubt. Tough sonuvabitch if I've ever seen one. Just give her a few months here and I expect she'll be right as rain again."

Here. So close to his home. And he was the only one who could administer her daily needs in full. The rest of his draciary staff were busy tending to the multitude of TYRUNT that had hatched this year. The staff in his estate, on the other hand, either didn't have much experience with dragons or didn't dare get near a Charmeleon in pain themselves.

As the stretcher passes him, the royal swears he sees said Charmeleon peek a weary eye open and smile at him. Though he takes a moment to wonder if he'd simply just imagined it. He sighs and shakes his head, reconsidering why he'd chosen to keep her at all.

Perhaps, he thought, it was guilt. Or perhaps he'd seen himself in her in some twisted way.

Turandot's eyes widen, and her large black pupils dilate when she sets her vengeful gaze on the faerie nearby. MESPRIT seems to have stricken a nerve from afar. And it was clear that the Charizard was defensive of the emotions that had just been probed— and the memories that had come along with them. So, ignoring the Garchomp that had been teasing her, she charged at them with an ear-splitting roar.

"Get out of here Eris!" Remiel exclaims, jumping forward and holding his arms out to try and convince the dragon queen to stop. But Mesprit could feel it... she was so close! If only she had a bit more time, she could navigate that storm of fury and reach the crux of what was affecting her.

[attr="class","inner-finally"]Mesprit is by no means a creature that can read the memories of others, but to sense sorrow amidst the anger is like dealing with their ward all over again. Just like Eris, the root cause of the rage is something beyond their reach and it sure isn't something that the pixie finds interest enough to fix.[break][break]

Instead they toss the emotions outwards, bitterness and anger washing over everyone present. Fear almost causes Reiner to break into a run, attempting to keep them away from the Tyrantrum. But Eris steadies him, clutching on tight even as the Luxray whimpers and whines.[break][break]

"Reach out, Remy!"[break][break]

Mesprit ~~can't~~ won't do this alone.[break][break]

"You have to be the one that does it!"

Common sense scatters like a flock of PIDOVE as Turandot charges straight for him. Though his instincts scream at him to run, his determination to protect Eris compels him to do otherwise. Even the girl in question seemed assured that he was the only one who could put an end to this. And, to her credit, it is his obligation to do so.

He had dared raise a Charmeleon under his tutelage, after all, knowing full well the destruction they could bring when evolved. Though he hadn't expected her to evolve so soon, much less in the realm of the ULTRA CRATER. She was almost unrecognizable in this form. And the bits and pieces that were recognizable haunted him to no end.

At least... up until he looked into her eyes. Expecting nothing but the flames of rabid rage, Remiel was surprised to find something else at its core: a flickering and barely visible spark of fear. That's when he realized she wasn't attacking for no reason at all. This was not a rampaging beast with a thirst for blood, but a creature so frightened that it felt it needed to defend itself with tooth and claw.

Out of the corner of his eye, he sees his Garchomp flanking this dragon, intent on intercepting with a swift AERIAL ACE. But, holding one hand out to Damkina, the exiled prince bids her to stop. The Garchomp, albeit utterly confused and worried, does as she is told when he glares. Then, with his other hand, Remiel reaches out to the Charizard.

RARRRRRRAAAAAAAAAA!

Electricity crackles from its tightened fist (THUNDER PUNCH) as it swoops in to strike the black-haired royal down. Remiel, however, doesn't even flinch. Closing his eyes, he awaits whatever may come... and Turandot strikes down.

But only to strike the ground beside him.

Enraged, confused, and still afraid, the Charizard roars and stomps backward as it sweeps its fiery tail to and fro. It seems to be testing him now, determined to gauge whether he was friend or foe. But Remiel remains unfazed.

Eventually, he opens his eyes again and takes a deep breath. "It's over," He says. "I understand now."

Remiel almost turns around to respond to Eris' inquiry, but stops himself almost as soon as the thought enters his mind. Despite understanding the source of the Charizard's violence, any show of weakness or carelessness was liable to incur dire consequences. So, instead, he keeps his eyes fixed on the dragon queen as he answers.

"Not quite. Though, in a sense, I've been living as if I had been for quite some time now..." The royal continues as Turandot snaps her teeth in his direction. "I can't exactly explain what's going on here, but if I had to guess... the poison doesn't simply fill one with rage. It makes one more sensitive to fears." He tries to explain.

Meanwhile, Damkina takes a cautious step forward, ready to intercept any attack she thinks might actually be headed Remiel's way. When he hears her footsteps, the prince swiftly commands her to a stop with a raised hand. Having sensed the Garchomp's unease at that moment, however, Turandot tenses and unleashes an INFERNO into the sky above.

"This is not vindictive rage! She's reacting to feeling threatened!" Remiel continues over the roar of flames.

Damkina struggles to tear her eyes away from the dragon queen in front of them. She'd exactly hadn't been raised to keep Remiel Calcifet safe, but she also hadn't expected to have grown so close with the prince. For better or worse, he was part of her pack now. And that meant defending his life, even at the cost of her own.

But something had changed. She could feel it. Like most Pokémon, humans confounded her to no end. After spending a lifetime with one, however, and forming a bond that had seared its power into a MEGA STONE, she'd learned to pick up on their moods. The little one was asking her to back down. And Remiel seemed to be in agreement.

It was hard, but the matriarch Garchomp eventually gives in to trusting their judgment. She steps back but keeps her sharp yellow gaze narrowed on the Charizard ahead.

"It'll be okay..." The prince reiterates as he takes a step closer, bearing the heat on his skin. "I know what you're feeling. That fear inside me. But it's not your fault... it wasn't my fault either. No one was to blame. Not even the Charizard that killed my father in that den..."

He understands now.

This rage, this defensive outburst, this agitation. He'd seen it all before on that fateful day. The same Charizard that had GIGANTAMAXED and killed his father... he'd always assumed it was simply a bloodthirsty killer. It had sworn him from using or even interacting with any Charizard since then.

But that was not the case.

It had been afraid.

Just as he.

Turandot's flames dissipate as she looks down, a low growl in her throat as she, too, senses a change. Without the roaring of flames or dragons, a serene quiet emerges in stark contrast across the alien landscape. Remiel takes another step closer, and his open palm is only a step away from reaching her warm belly as he continues.

"I have you to thank for that, Turandot. You showed me just how foolish holding on to that rage and that fear was. You helped me let it go... and I'll always be indebted to you for that." He smiles, taking that final step.

And, when his palm finally places itself flat against her tummy, the protruding veins pumping poison through the Charizard's system slowly begin to fade away.
