THE ULTRA CRATER IS A LARGE EXPANSE UNDERNEATH A YELLOW SKY. In between thick, almost impassable jungles, craters filled with green fields and alien plants lay. What appears to be metal pipe-like roots grow out the rock of crater walls. Geysers dot this alien landscape, occasionally expelling shrieking steam.[break][break]

The world is frequented by earthquakes, causing odd red monoliths of rock to quake throughout the realm. Oddly, the Ultra Thicket possesses very fertile soil. In the distance, a large mountainous expanse can be seen, though the range does not seem too high.

This time, she's somewhat certain that that won't happen again! Though, she can't quite say that they won't be haunted by some angry creature that already lurks in this strange place.[break][break]

The last time she’d been here, she was with three other people.

So imagine her surprise on her return—this time, she was with a…

Surely she can’t be older than the twins, right? she thought to herself, brow furrowed in concentration. While her Braviary was up in the skies above, she was accompanied by her Gardevoir on the ground.

More eyes to be on the lookout for more insanity, as they said.

“Once, before. Saw a crater not too far from where I came the last time… although I have the feeling there’s more than just one crater here…” she hummed quietly, lost in thought.

If she remembered right from the last trip out here, there were five significant ones, and she’d already seen one of them.

“Are you looking for one of the five craters, too?”

Best not to ask why there was a kid here; that L… the companion Pokémon looked menacing!

(Look, she has astraphobia so anything Electric-type she’s terrified of.)

Well, this place is filled with craters but the way she talks about it makes it sound like there's more to this place than just pretty space rocks. It doesn't really look like the innards of some giant beast, nor does it have the rancid vibes but who knows? For now, she has to try and grasp just what the other knows of this place.[break][break]

"Nuh. What's so special about those craters? A telescope is pulled from her pocket, her eyes keenly searching for the nearest aforementioned crater. "Filled to the brim with toxins? The den of sleeping ultra beasts?"[break][break]

Is that one down there? She tries to focus a little more on just what may lie in the centre of it, but she can't quite see what supposedly stands out. So she looks to Reiner, watching how he carefully scales the side of this route and following every step under his unbreaking gaze.[break][break]

"Now that you've brought it up, we gotta go look at one. Don't fall behind, miss!"[break][break]

It's a hell of a steep climb down, but she somehow makes it with a ton of experience and healthy bit of fear. Weak spots are avoided, thoughts of making stairs crosses her mind. And eventually, once she reaches a relatively safe height, she lets go and slides the rest of the way down. Where's that thing that makes this place so special? With the memory of having been to a world like this before, she wanders and soon finds strange things carved into bamboo stalks scattered around.[break][break]

"Let's lookie here..." She resists the urge to touch it, with a helpful little reminder from Reiner. "What is... a robe of fire rats?"

She then remembered the last crater she’d been to had mentions of a ‘seaborne shell’, so there was that. Bless her (limited) previous experience here suddenly coming in spades then!

“The previous crater I saw, which is in that distance over there,” she pointed some ways behind them, “…was looking for a seaborne shell. Whether it meant an actual Pokémon or some item, I’m not sure, but we tried to puzzle out what it meant.”

Either it meant actual Pokémon or unobtainable, impossible items—it was either one or the other.

“You’ll see when we get there,” and here she swapped her Braviary for her Metagross, which she then clambered upon Zan’s back and followed the young lady who began the treacherous hike down the path she’d chosen to traverse.

In no time flat they’re at their next destination, however this time instead of a ‘seaborne shell’, this crater was asking for ‘a robe of fire rats’.

What the hell was that?

“Going by context clues… what Pokémon looks like it’s wearing a robe of fire?”

She… already had a possible idea; as she was holding her Typhlosion’s Pokéball in hand.

"I guess a Typhlosion would be the closest thing." She hums, taking a moment to look around and observe the sparse crater for anything else interesting. "It'll probably be best to look at the other craters and figure out what's going on before we start messing around."[break][break]

There should be three more but as for which direction they'd find them, she isn't too sure. First things first, they should probably climb out of this crater and try to regain their bearings. A daring peek at the sky lets her spy the sun's position, dipping a little past the highest point as it soaks the ground in a somewhat familiar golden glow. Experience tells her that staying late will spell disaster, but it also tells her that disaster is most likely already lurking on the horizon.[break][break]

"Help us out, Azzy!"[break][break]

A Heatran appears from the pokeball tossed. She stares at her for the briefest of moments, then looks about as if trying to discern just what hellscape she's been called into, only to give up just moments after. With the way that Eris gestures up towards the top of the crater, Azzy gently stomps her feet against the ground, summoning Stone Edges to serve as footholds on their way back up. Then with Reiner helping her up onto his back, the trio begin their ascent, only looking back to check on Izumi Yamamura.[break][break]

"C'mon, miss! We've got places to go!"

“Right behind you!”

With a little pat on the Metagross’s leg, the blue beast followed her companion as they made tracks out of the—

“You know, you can hitch a ride with me on here next time,” she called out as the Metagross hovered behind the other, just to make sure that she didn’t fall down or do anything too stupid like miss a handhold.

Which reminded her…

“I have an idea. You want to check out the previous crater I visited? The one with the ‘seaborne shell’ inscription?” she offered.

She had a feeling they were either going to run into disaster somewhere along the way or afterward—but then again they were already here so it was time to make tracks.

Plus there was no way she wanted to get stuck here before nightfall, so yeah…

[attr="class","inner-finally"]A ride on a Metagross? There's something about that idea that causes her chest to go a little fuzzy and prickly as she clutches tighter to the Luxray.[break][break]

"Nah. Reiner's got me." Shooting the idea down is what makes the sensation quieten down, patting his shoulder makes it melt away. And as he begins in the vague direction previously pointed in, she'll look towards her Izumi Yamamura with a soft nod. "I don't think going there would hurt... Never know what stuff others might have left behind, yeah?"[break][break]

Maybe clues to their solutions, maybe remnants of their failed expeditions. Who knows what might have changed since the last time she's been here? All it takes is a trek through a bamboo forest, the lush thicket looming ominously over them as she tries to suppress a shiver.[break][break]

Nah, probably not. Right...? She keeps her hopes up that history won't attempt to repeat itself but when Reiner stops dead in his tracks, that begins setting off all kinds of alarms. He grunts as he scrunches his nose, the tension in his body palpable as he backs up. And not a moment too soon, the forest explodes into a viscous plume of flames, searing heat expanding so quickly that it smacks bare skin and leaves far more than a sting.[break][break]

"Reiner?!"[break][break]

She knows he'd looked away, he had forcibly turned them away from the flames before it struck but she can smell the burning. And it doesn't take a genius to look around just to see that state of him, his left flank sporting patches of singed fur and a limp as he gingerly tries to move away. Worry eats quick, leaving almost none for others. Though her sync stone glows with a healing pulse, she knows it won't be enough to allow him to push through with this expedition.[break][break]

"We should leav-"[break][break]

If that wasn't obvious enough, perhaps the strangled cry that causes this forest to quake is. Emerging from the ground is a pointed head, then a twisted neck partly surrounded by a strange metallic casing. Bamboo-like arms uproot from where they slumbered, sweeping towards them and tossing out a rather unhealthy number of Leech Seeds.

They were some part of the way towards the previous crater she’d visited when the smell of—something incendiary caught her nostrils.

Her Metagross barely had time to scrape out a warning as she was suddenly bucked off his back, the inherent Psychic power from the dual-type stemming around them and suddenly bending the thick bamboo stalks around them in a defensive ‘barrier’ as the flames scorched…

“Are you kidding me?!” she exclaimed; her Braviary came screaming down and attempted to fan the flames away from their present location.

“This wasn’t here the last time!”

Quickly pulling out another Pokéball from her pocket, her Swampert makes an appearance, before the look of alarm on his face told him exactly everything he needed to know about the situation.

The Swampert then got to work, blasting out Hydro Pump after Hydro Pump in an attempt to douse the incendiary flames.

They were now officially on the run. Having recalled the Swampert once they’d put considerable distance between the incendiary gas, who knew that they were going to run into a—

“Are you kidding me?!” she screeched as vines suddenly came whipping out of the foliage—this time it was her Braviary who came screaming down from the sky, flapping his wings as the big-ass Carnivine came dropping down from out of nowhere and threatened to eat her whole and spitting out Leech Seeds along the way.

“Gross!” she followed up a few moments later while the angry, angry Braviary rammed into the vines and the attack expelled from the gigantic Grass-type with Aerial Ace; all the while the Metagross was attempting to shove the Carnivine away from her as well using his latent psychic power.

Why did things never go their way when they were in a hurry?!
